WALKERSVILLE VARSITY TOO MUCH FOR MONOCACY - 01/23/01

Walkersville outscoring visiting Monocacy 34-16 over the final three quarters to register a 46-27 varsity win. Tim Abercrombie notched 12 points and Alex Edgely aded 10 for the winners while Anthony Blackwood topped the Mustangs' scoring list with 12 points.

Brad Betson scored 22 points, hitting six three-pointers in the process, as Monocacy gunned down Walkersville 47-38 in the jayvee game. Matty Foley added nine points for Monocacy. Thomas Fiammetta had seven points to lead the Lions and Gregory Brooks contributed six points.

MONOCACY, POOLESVILLE TAKE TWO EACH - 01/21/01

Michael Cholet made two free throws with 3.5 seconds to go to lift Monocacy's varsity to a 29-28 victory over Middletown. John Truxillo had 10 points to lead the Mustangs. Joe Keimig paced the Knights with nine.

Monocacy pulled away in the jayvee game after Middletown had taken a five-point lead at halftime. Monocacy outscored Middletown 17 - 9 in the second half. Brad Betson the winners with 10 points and Patrick Uthe added nine. Patrick Carney paced Middletown with seven points.

Adam Powell had 17 points to lead Poolesville to a 47-32 varsity win over Brunswick. Fred Leighton added nine points for the Indians. Brunswick was led by Billy Bernard with seven tallies.

Brandon Moore had a game-high ll points, 10 in the first half, as Poolesville took the jayvee game 37-24. Spencer Barrick topped the Railroaders scoring list with seven points.

MIDDLETOWN, BRUNSWICK SWEEP; MONOCACY, WK SPLIT - 01/20/01

Joe Keimig nailed a desperation three-pointer from halfcourt to end the third quarter and sparked a fourth-period run as Middletown defeated Walkersville's varsity 27-24. Keimig ended up with 12 points for the Knights while Chris Hannigan netted 11 for the Lions.

Jake Epstein and Alex Carr hit crucial one-on-one free throw opportunities in the final minute of play as Middletown won the jayvee game 32-29. Epstein and Colin Donovan had six points each to pace the winners while Devin Trout was game-high scorer with 10 points in a losing cause.

Brunswick's 39-25 jayvee win at Catoctin, coupled with Walkersville's loss, moved the Railroaders into the MVAL division lead. Brunswick used a late rally to pull away from the Cougars, scoring 20 points in the forth period. Chris Rucker lead the way with 11 points. Catoctin was helped by a nine-point total from Michael Topper.

With 26's showing on the scoreboard for both teams at the end of three quarters, Brunswick outscored Catoctin 13-8 in the final period to deny Catoctin from it's first varsity victory. R.J. Backover and Billy Bernard rolled nines for the Railroaders while Dan Duranko scored 10 points for Catoctin.

Monocacy went 11-of-12 from the foul line in the the fourth quarter and overtime to get past Windsor Knolls' upset-minded varsity 38-27. Michael Cholet had 14 points and John Truxillo added 10 for the Mustangs. Jason Butts had 12 markers and Brandon Ponstein nine for the Hawks.

The battle for second place in the tough CMC jayvee division was decided early as the Hawks raced to a 16-2 first-quarter lead en route to a 42-21 victory. The win keeps the Hawks one game behind Linganore. Steve Anderson led Windsor Knolls with 14 points. Monocacy was led by Pat Uthe and Justin McLeod with five points apiece.

Poolesville took a 17-3 lead midway through the second quarter and held on to defeat MSD 27-22 in jayvee action. Brandon Moore led Poolesville with 10 points. Davon Cook scored 20 of the 22 for MSD.

BALLENGER SPLITS WITH ST. JOHN'S - 01/18/01

St. Johns defeated Ballenger 48-32 on the varsity level. St. Johns used a 12-3 fourth quarter to put the game away. Ballenger was led by Cory Rhodes with 13 points and St. Johns was led by Jair Brady and Justin Harrison with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

In the jayvee game, Ballenger defeated St. Johns 42-30. Ballenger was led by Michael Clementson with 10 points and Chris Pully led St. Johns with 11 markers.

MSD RALLIES TO DEFEAT WEST FREDERICK - 01/17/01

MSD came back from eight points down at the half to defeat West Frederick 35-27. Davon Cook lead MSD with 17 points while Qmonte Matheny led the Cadets with 12 points.

MONOCACY GETS BY CATOCTIN IN PAIR - 01/15/01

Monocacy got a tougher time that it bargained for in taking a doubleheader from Catoctin. The varsity game was tied at 24 in the fourth quarter before the homestanders finished with a 20-3 outburst. John Freed led Monocacy with 11 points while Wardell Roberts recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Michael Clarke led Catoctin with eight points.

Catoctin's jayvees jumped out to a 12-2 lead after the first quarter, but Monocacy then went on a 20-0 run and held on for a 37-30 victory. Brad Betson led Monocacy with 11 points while both Corey Myers and Adam Delauter scored six for Catoctin.

Linganore went to 9-0 in jayvee play with a 43-35 triumph over Poolesville. Jon Sweadner notched 13 points and Jay Greene contributed eight for the winners while Marcus Brooks had 14 points and Brandon Moore 11 for the Indians.

Poolesville won the varsity contest 43-32 behind Corey Christman's 13-point effort. Shak Kake contributed eight points off the bench. Linganore was led by Isiah Brightful, Mark Trammel and C.J. Hardesty with six points apiece.

Mike Holda poured in 16 points, including 8-of-9 shooting from the foul line, as Middletown's varsity knocked off Brunswick 51-33. Billy Bernard had 11 points for the Railroaders.

Middletown overcame a five-point fourth-quarter deficit only to lose the jayvee contest in overtime 34-32. Chris Papanicolas lead Brunswick with 11 and Eric Zwilisky added nine. Tyler Moser lead Middletown with 10 points.

ST. JOHN'S WINS MVAL VARSITY SHOWDOWN, LANCER JAYVEES WIN - 01/14/01

Jair Brady and Steven Keser combined for 33 points as St. Johns snapped Walkersville's seven-game varsity win streak 52-51. Brady had 22 points and Keser had 11 while again dominating the boards at both ends. The Vikings were led defensively by Justin Moser and Justin Harrison who combined for 12 steals. Walkersville was led by Branden Geppert and Chris Hannigan, each with 15 points, and Tim Abercrombie with 10.

Walkersville rallied in the jayvee game from a 24-16 halftime deficit to claim a 41-40 decision. Walkersville was led by Bruce Gaines with 12 points and Devin Trout with nine. Todd Steber had a game-high 18 points for St. John's and Jonathan Mahlandt added 10.

Linganore blew out to a 23-1 halftime lead and coasted to a 40-20 jayvee win over Middletown, the eighth win without a loss for the Lancers. Bradley Souders had 10 points and Paul Rhoads seven for the winners while Patrick Carney had six to pace the Knights.

Joe Keimig had 12 points to lead the varsity Knights to a 37-25 victory. Mark Trammel had a game-high 13 for the Lancers.

Monocacy never trailed in taking a 46-34 varsity verdict against Brunswick. Michael Cholet had 11 points and John Freed nine for the Mustangs. Billy Bernard's nine points and Mike Sewell's seven set the standard for the Railroaders.

The Mustangs broke away from a 20-18 halftime advantage in the opener to win by a 42-34 count. Patrick Uthe netted 11 points and Gordon Selckmann eight in a winning cause while Chris Papanicolas notched 10 points and Eric Zwilsky added nine for the 'Roaders.

Greg Brooks canned two free throws with 11.3 left in the game to seal Poolesville's 39-35 varsity win against Ballenger Creek. Poolesville's Adam Powell and Ballenger's Bruce Dorsey led their respective teams with 22 points each.

Ballenger started strong in each half and took a 40-21 lead into the final quarter before holding on to a 44-36 victory in the jayvee game. Mike Clementson had a game-high 13 points for the Bulldogs and Kevin Henry added 10 points. Tyler Bierly paced Poolesville with 12 points. Jared Christman added seven.

WEST FREDERICK, WALKERSVILLE ADD ANOTHER VARSITY NOTCH - 01/13/01

Luther Weedon did the damage in the first half, scoring 13 of his game-high 15 points as West Frederick downed Catoctin's varsity 41-21. The visiting Cadets used a scoring flurry late in the second quarter, netting eight points in the final minute, to take a 16-point lead into the break. Dan Duranko led the Cougars with six points.

The junior varsity used a pair of 13's from Malcom Stringer and Qmonte Matheny to down Catoctin 53-21. West Frederick jumped to a 25-7 halftime lead. Jake Yocum led the Cougars with seven points.

Walkersville defeated Windsor Knolls 44-31 in varsity action behind a balanced scoring attack. Four Lions had eight points or more, topped by Dave Berry's 11 points. Daniel Orrison led the Hawks with 11 as well.

In the jayvee game, the Hawks outscored the Lions 18-4 in the second quarter to take a comanding 29-8 halftime lead in route to a 50-16 victory. Matt Urie led the way with 12 points and Mike Jarboe added eight. The Lions were paced by Joseph Riley with six points.

Jair Brady and Steve Keser combined for 34 points as St. Johns' varsity upended Monocacy 62-41. Brady had 18 points and Keser 16 while dominating the boards on both ends of the court. Monocacy was led by John Freed with nine points while Josh Alderson added eight and Wardell Roberts seven.

Monocacy won the jayvee game 40-26, breaking away from a 16-14 halftime lead. Brad Betson led the Mustangs with 13 points while Matty Foley chipped in with 10. Daniel Lagdon and Chris Pully each scored five points for St. John's.

BALLENGER, BRUNSWICK SPLIT; LINGANORE JAYVEES WIN - 01/11/01

R.J. Backover scored 19 points and Billy Bernard added 12 as Brunswick escaped Ballenger Creek with a 52-46 overtime win. Cory Rhodes had 20 points for the Bulldogs and Bruce Dorsey contributed a dozen.

Ballenger won the jayvee game 25-17. Pat Green's five points led the winners and Chris Papanicolas netted six points for Brunswick.

Linganore rallied from a four-point deficit in the second quarter to defeat MSD 48-38 in jayvee action. Jay Greene had 10 points to pace the Lancers and Davon Cook had 23 points for the Orioles.

WALKERSVILLE NOTCHES SIXTH STRAIGHT, MSD WINS - 01/10/01

Dave Berry and Chris Hannigan combined for 30 points to keep Walkersville's varsity unbeaten through six games with a 47-36 decision against Poolesville. Berry had 17 points and Hannigan 13. Greg Brooks topped the Indians scoring list with 14 points.

Poolesville won the jayvee game by a score of 44-25. Poolesville was led by Tyler Bierly with 10 points and Brandon Moore with seven. Dominique Miller led Walkersville with eight points.

MSD blanked St. John's 11-0 in the fourth quarter after trailing through three periods and took a 32-20 win. Davon Cook notched 20 points for the Orioles. Todd Steber led St. John's with six points.

UNBEATEN TEAMS CONTINUE THAT WAY - 01/07/01

West Frederick survived another scare against Middletown to remain unbeaten in varsity play with a 34-30 decision. The Knights, after dropping a three-point decision to the Cadets in December, led until the final minute of play as West Frederick rallied to outscore Middletown 10-2 in the final quarter. Quenton Beard provided half the offense with 17 points for the winners while Mike Holda had eight for Middletown.

Malcolm Kates and Jermane Duvall had eight points each as West Frederick won the jayvee game 42-28. Middletown was lead by Tyler Moser with nine points while Patrick Carney added six. The Cadets jumped out to a 12-point halftime lead and coasted the rest of the way. Kordarus Carter had two three-pointers and Jerame Duvall added one for the winners.

Walkersville's varsity also remained undefeated with a 48-30 win over Linganore. Dave Berry provided 15 points and Chris Hannigan 13 for the Lions while Mark Trammell's eight points were tops for the Lancers.

Linganore won it's seventh jayvee game without a loss, taking the opener 39-22 behind Jay Greene's 18 points. Jon Sweadner added 10 points while Nicholas DeCarlo had a team-high nine points for Walkersville.

In a last-second stunner, Poolesville's varsity pulled out a 24-23 varsity triumph over visiting Monocacy. John Freed put the Mustangs ahead by one with a long bankshot with 2.7 seconds remaining, but Freddie Leighton took a length-of-the-court pass from Stephen Smith and nailed a 28-footer at the buzzer for the Indians. Gregory Brooks led the Indians with eight points while Michael Cholet had a game-high nine points for Monocacy.

Monocacy took the opener 35-23 behind 10 points from Patrick Uthe and nine by Brad Betson. Poolesville, led by Brandon Moore's 10 points, shot just 10-of-40 from the floor and three-of-12 from the foul line.

St. John's stayed within one game of Walkersville in the varsity CMC race with a 53-36 triumph over Brunswick. The Vikings scored the game's first 10 points and never trailed. Jair Brady had 19 and Ben Hose netted 12 for the winners while Billy Bernard offered 17 points and R.J. Backover 11 for the Railroaders.

Brunswick won it's second straight jayvee game with a 31-27 decision in the opener. Chris Papanicolas led Brunswick with 11 points and Todd Steber's eight points paced the Vikings.

LINGANORE WINS BATTLE OF JAYVEE UNBEATENS; WF VARSITY WINS - 01/06/01

Linganore erased an early 12-0 deficit with a 22-0 run of it's own to defeat Monocacy 37-34 and become the only unbeaten team remaining in the jayvee ranks. Jon Sweadner and Jay Greene netted 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Lancers while John Gaeng led the Mustangs with 10 points.

Monocacy claimed the varsity win 36-29 behind 15 points from Anthony Blackwood. Jashua Young had nine points for the Lancers.

West Frederick trailed 25-17 at the half, but outscored Windsor Knolls 31-12 the rest of the way for a 48-37 triumph that kept them unbeaten in varsity play. Quenton Beard had 19 points and Luther Weedon 12 for the Cadets while Daniel Orrison and Bob Roche each had eight points for the Hawks.

The Hawks took the jayvee opener 46-35, taking control by halftime with a 31-17 advantage. Michael Hall netted 16 points and Steve Anderson 11 for the winners. Qmonte Matheny led the Cadets with 17 markers.

Catoctin used a 20-point second half to close the gap, but Corey Christman's 12 first-half points for Poolesville proved too much to overcome in a 41-32 Indians' victory. Poolesville led 26-12 at the half. Christman finished with a team-high 16 while Luke Bumgardner netted eight points for Catoctin.

Poolesville used it's press to gain a 21-7 halftime lead in the jayvee game and went on to down homestanding Catoctin 46-24. Leading the way for the Indians was Brandon Moore with 13 points. Adam Delauter and Derek Woelfel each chipped in with eight points for Catoctin.

Walkersville's varsity went to 4-0 with a 51-32 triumph over Brunswick in a makeup game. Brandon Geppert had 11 points and Chris Hannigan 10 to lead Lions while R.J. Backover had nine points for the Railroaders.

Brunswick got it's first jayvee win in the opener, bouncing the Lions 41-21. Eric Zwilsky led a balanced Brunswick attack with nine points. Jonathon Nusbaum and Joseph Reilly had five points each for Walkersville.

BALLENGER RUNS PAST CATOCTIN - 01/04/01

Ballenger Creek raced to a 26-9 lead at the half and went on to defeat Catoctin 50-25 in varsity action. Bruce Dorsey had 14 points and Corey Rhodes eight for the winners while Derrick Thompson paced the Cougars with 10 points.

The Bulldogs won the jayvee game in similar fashion, 47-10. Andrew Cooper led a balanced Ballenger attack with eight points and five rebounds while Michael Clemetson chipped in seven points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Michael Topper's four points were tops for Catoctin.

COOK, LEHMANN SHINE AS MSD WINS THIRD - 12/21/00

Davon Cook had 20 points and dominated the backboards while Scott Lehmann added 15 points as MSD defeated Walkersville 42-29 in jayvee action.

Joe Reilly played well in a losing cause with 13 points for the Lions.

WF VARSITY, LINGANORE JAYVEE REMAIN UNBEATEN - 12/17/00

West Frederick's varsity made short order of Poolesville, scoring the game's first 21 points and going on to a 49-37 win to remain unbeaten. Luther Weeden was high scorer for the Cadets with 17 points and Quenton Beard chipped in 12 points. Poolesville was led by Adam Powell with eight points.

Poolesville stunned the Cadets in the jayvee game 42-37. Tyler Bierly led the Indians with 15 points and Brandon Moore added 10. QMonte Monteny had an outstanding game with 20 points for West Frederick.

Linganore's jayvees withstood a furious fourth-quarter charge to hold off Windsor Knolls 45-40 and remain undefeated. The Hawks were down by 16 going into the fourth quarter and cut the lead to just four points with less then a minute remaining. The Lancers were led by big man Jay Greene with 16 points. The Hawks were paced by Matt Urie with 12 and Steve Anderson and Jordon Snowden with nine each.

The Lancers also won the nightcap 38-28, going 22-for-39 from the foul line. Jashua Young led Linganore with 11 points while Bob Roche had a game-high 13 for the Hawks.

St. John's broke away from a one-point halftime lead with a 24-15 run that paved the way for a 46-36 varsity win against Middletown. The Vikings were led by Jair Brady with 16 points and Ben Hose with eight. The Knights were led by Joe Keimig with 10.

The jayvee Vikings rallied from an 8-0 deficit to go on a 32-10 tear and held on to beat Middletown 33-31. St. John's was led by Larry Johnson with 15 points, Todd Steber with seven and Jonathan Mahlandt with six. Patrick Carney led Middletown with 11 points.

WF, MONOCACY SPLIT; HAWKS, INDIANS WIN TWO - 12/16/00

It took overtime to do it, but Monocacy defeated West Frederick in a battle of jayvee unbeatens 38-35. Matty Foley had 12 points and Brad Betson 10 to pace the Mustangs while Qmonte Matheny tallied 11 points and Steven Custis contributed 10 for the Cadets.

West Frederick remained unbeaten in the varsity ranks with a 36-22 triumph over Monocacy. The Cadets led 18-15 after three quarters, but pulled away in the fourth. They got 15 points from Luther Weedon while Michael Cholet and Josh Alderson had nine points each to top the 'Stangs.

Poolesville took an 18-7 first-quarter lead and went on to defeat Brunswick's varsity 56-43. Poolesville was led by Cory Christman with 12 points. Freddie Leighton chipped in with 11. Brunswick was led by Alex Papnicolas with 12 points and R.J. Backover with 11.

The Indians also won the jayvee contest 40-25, leading by as many as 23 points in the second half. Tyler Bierly led the winners 14 points. Eric Zwilsky lead Brunswick with 11 points and Chris Papanicolas added six.

Windsor Knolls took advantage at the foul line, making 18 free throws, and held Catoctin to six first-half points in claiming a 39-17 varsity win. Justin Short and Shaynon Thompson led Windsor Knolls with nine and eight points, respectively.

The Hawks' jayvees pressed their way to a 16-4 first quarter advantage and took a 46-26 verdict. Leading the way for the Hawks was Steve Anderson with 17 points. Catoctin was led by Adam Delauter with seven markers.

MONOCACY SWEEPS BC, MSD JAYVEES PICK UP WIN - 12/14/00

Monocacy regained it's composure after letting a 10-point first-half lead get away and held on for a 50-41 win against Ballenger Creek. Josh Alderson had 12 points and Anthony Blackwood 10 for the Mustangs while Cory Rhodes led BC with 16 and Bruce Dorsey added eight points.

The Mustangs won the jayvee game 36-24 behind 11-point efforts from both Matty Foley and Deke Gaeng.

MSD broke away from a two-point lead at halftime and went on to win 27-10 against St. John's. The Orioles were led by Davon Cook with 11 points and Scott Lehmann with eight.

WALKERSVILLE TAKES TWO FROM BALLENGER CREEK - 12/13/00

Walkersville won it's third varsity game without a loss in tripping Ballenger Creek 56-41. Brandon Geppert had 14 points and Dave Berry knocked down 13 for the winners. Cory Rhodes had a team-high 12 points for BC.

The Lions placed three players in double figures in winning the jayvee game 48-45. Nicholas DeCarlo topped the list with 12 points while Bruce Gaines and Devin Trout added 10 points each. Kevin Henry's 10 points led the Bulldogs.

SECOND-HALF SURGE HAS HAWKS FLYING - 12/11/00

Windsor Knolls's jayvees bolted away from a 21-19 halftime lead, holding host MSD to just four points over the final 12 minutes for a 41-23 victory. Steve Anderson had 12 points and eight rebounds for WK. Mike Hall and Matt Urie added nine and eight points, respectively.

POOLESVILLE SWEEPS; BRUNSWICK VARSITY WINS FIRST - 12/10/00

Poolesville handed Middletown it's second three-point setback in as many days by a 30-27 count. Corey Christman led Poolesville with 10 points. Middletown was led by Joe Keimig and Wes Bidle with seven points each.

The Indians also took the jayvee prelim by a 29-25 margin. Middletown lead throughout the game but could not overcome two three-pointer by Brandon Moore in the final quarter. Zachary Stowers led the winners with 11 points while Moore added eight. For the Knights, Josh Nesbitt netted eight points and Patrick Carney added seven.

St. Johns' varsity defeated Windsor Knolls in a tight contest 37-32. The Vikings were led by the scoring of Jair Brady and Justin Harrison, each with 14 points. The Hawks were paced by Justin Short with 10 points.

Windsor Knolls' jayvees went to 4-0 on the year with a 55-21 triumph over St. John's. The Hawks ran out to a 22-7 first-quarter lead. Eleven players scored for WK, led by Gregory Price with 11 points and Matthew Urie with 10. St. John's was led by Frankie Sheppard with seven points.

Brunswick got it's first varsity win of the year, defeating Linganore 51-48 in overtime. Billy Bernard led the winners with 15 points while R.J. Backover knocked down 13 points. Isiah Brightful's 10 points led the Lancers while Corey Nicholson contributed nine points.

Linganore won the jayvee opener 38-17, surging to a 13-1 lead and cruising from there. A balanced Lancers attack saw Michael Herrod net eight points while Jay Greene and Jon Sweadner had seven points each.

West Frederick survived a strong second half comeback by MSD to win a jayvee contest 31-27. The Cadets, who led 20-6 at the half, got 11 points from Qmonte Matheny and 10 from Eric Means. Sixth-grader Scott Lehmann led all scorers with 14 points for the Orioles.

TWO SWEEPS, TWO SPLITS SCRAMBLE CMC - 12/09/00

Varsity unbeatens West Frederick and Middletown went right to the wire before the Cadets managed a 37-34 win. The teams were tied at 18 at the half and West Frederick held a one-point edge entering the final period. Luther Weedon had 15 points to top the Cadets while Joe Keimig led the Knights with 15. Middletown's downfall was a 10-for-27 performance from the foul line.

The Cadets convincingly won the jayvee contest, scoring the game's first 14 points and claiming a 39-22 verdict. Qmonte Matheny and Malcom Stringer had 10 points each to lead the winners while Patrick Carney led the Knights with nine.

Monocacy broke away from a 21-15 halftime lead to beat Brunswick's varsity 45-25. Anthony Blackwood led Monocacy with 13 points while Josh Alderson chipped in with eight and John Freed added seven. R.J. Backover led Brunswick with eight points.

The Mustangs also won the jayvee game 35-27. Monocacy led at halftime 11-7. Matty Foley led Monocacy with 12 points while Chris Papanicolas scored 10 and Eric Zwilsky nine for the Railroaders.

Kenny Houck hit two free throws in the final seconds as Ballenger Creek pulled out a 30-28 varsity win at Windsor Knolls. The Hawks, who missed a desperation shot at the buzzer, got 11 points from Justin Short.

Mike Hall's long three-pointer to end the first half provided momentum for a 13-2 Windsor Knolls run in the third period as they took the jayvee game 45-29. Steve Anderson poured in 18 and Hall finished with 10 for the Hawks. BC had three players with six points each - Chris Castro, Mike Clemenston and Danny Edwards.

Poolesville survived a late scare to take a 48-41 varsity win against Linganore. The Indians, up by 19 midway through the third quarter, were led by Cory Christman with 12 points (ten in the first half). Freddie Leighton chipped in nine points for the winners. Linganore was led by Corey Nicholson with 14 points and Joshua Young with 12 points. Young had a string of 19 consecutive free throws made snapped and is now 20-of-21 for the year.

Linganore held Poolesville's jayvees to just one point in the first quarter and five in the half in taking a 34-18 decision in the opener. Jon Sweadner's 11 points paced the Lancers while Tyler Bierly played a strong game leading Poolesville with eight points and seven rebounds.

MIDDLETOWN, BALLENGER TRADE LOPSIDED WINS - 12/07/00

Middletown held Ballenger Creek's varsity to six (6) first-half points and put the game away early with an 18-8 run in the third period of a 41-26 decision. Mike Holda had 10 points and Zach Miss added 13 for Middletown while Cory Rhodes led the Bulldogs with 12.

Jason Dice had 10 points and Kevin Henry offered up eight to lead a balanced Ballenger jayvee attack in a 46-14 triumph in the opener.

BERRY'S 27 PACE LIONS; MONOCACY JAYVEES WIN - 12/06/00

Dave Berry poured in 27 points as Walkersville's varsity defeated Catoctin 63-22. Chris Hannigan added 10 points for the winners while Derrick Beard led the Cougars with five markers.

Walkersville got a game-high 12 points from Thomas Fiammetta in taking the jayvee game 36-22. Jake Yocum led the Cougars with eight points.

Monocacy got 14 points from Brad Betson, including three three-pointers, as they got past MSD 29-22. Davon Cook continued his fine play with 16 points for the Orioles.

MOORE, POOLESVILLE WIN DUEL WITH MSD - 12/04/00

Brandon Moore won a scoring duel with Davon Cook and Poolesville won the game 30-25. Moore had 18 points for the Indians while Cook's 16 led the Orioles. Poolesville capitalized on 35 MSD turnovers.

WALKERSVILLE VARSITY RALLIES TO UPSET MONOCACY - 12/03/00

Walkersville rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to upset Monocacy 42-41 in varsity play. Tim Abercrombie had 13 points, Dave Berry 12 for the Lions, who held the homestanders to just 14 points in the second half after trailing 27-16 at intermission. Josh Alderson led Monocacy with 16 points.

Monocacy won the jayvee opener 39-18 as Matty Foley netted 11 points and Brad Betson nine. Joseph Reilly and Nicholas DeCarlo had six each for the Lions. The Mustangs led 19-3 in the first quarter.

Quenton Beard tallied 21 points and Luther Weedon added 12 as West Frederick's varsity ran past St. John's 53-32. Steven Keser had an outstanding game for the Vikings with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

West Frederick also won the jayvee game, bolting to a 24-8 halftime lead and holding on for a 37-24 victory. The Cadets had eight different players score, led by Danny Toft and Qmonte Matheny with eight points each. Jonathan Mahlandt paced St. John's with nine points.

Middletown got double-digit scoring from Joe Keimig (12) and Mike Holda (11) to register a 50-29 varsity win against Catoctin. The Cougars were led by Derrick Thompson with six tallies.

The Knights also won the jayvee game 37-18, holding Catoctin scoreless from the field in the second half. Josh Nesbitt had 10 points and Patrick Carney added seven for Middletown while Adam Delauter and Jake Yocum had six points each for the Cougars.

Jon Sweadner's 15 points helped Linganore escape with a 34-32 jayvee win over Ballenger Creek. Michael Clementson and Patrick Greene accounted for all but eight of the Bulldogs' points with 12 each.

Ballenger gained a split in the nightcap with a 32-27 varsity triumph. Cory Rhodes had 10 points for the winners while Corey Nicholson netted 10 in a losing cause.

Windsor Knolls' varsity broke away from an 18-18 halftime tie to beat Brunswick 41-28. Justin Short came up big for the winners with 13 points while R.J. Backover led the Railroaders with 12 markers.

The Hawks opened the jayvee game with a 21-4 run and were never threatened in a 58-20 win. Matthew Deadrick had a game-high 20 points for Windsor Knolls while Spensor Barrick paced Brunswick with six points.

LINGANORE, WEST FREDERICK EARN SEASON-OPENING SWEEPS - 12/02/00

Linganore gained a sweep over Catoctin in totally different fashions. The jayvee game was never in doubt as the Lancers scored 18 points in the first quarter and went on to win 45-8. The varsity game was decided in the fourth quarter when Linganore used a 12-6 finish to claim a 39-32 victory.

Jon Sweadner led the jayvee winners with nine points while Mike Herrod chipped in with eight. Isiah Brightful had six of his team-high 14 points in the decisive fourth quarter and Mark Trammell added 10 for Linganore's varsity. Derrick Thompson and Luke Bumgardner had eight and seven points, respectively, for the Cougars.

West Frederick ran out to a 12-1 lead and never looked back in turning away Brunswick's varsity 39-14. Quenton Beard and Jesse Highling had 10 points each for WF while Mike Sewell's five points was tops for Brunswick.

The Cadets also raced to a 17-7 halftime lead against Brunswick's jayvees and won by a 35-23 margin. Malcom Kattes, Kordarus Carter, and Steven Custis had eight points each to pace a balanced Cadet attack. Carter also had five steals and Custis four. Chris Papanicolas led the Railroaders with 13 points.

Mike Holda scored ten points and Middletown hit 5-of-9 free throws down the stretch to claim a 23-16 win over the Windsor Knolls varsity. Bob Roche had six points in a losing cause.

The Hawks won the jayvee game 56-24 behind 10 points each from Steve Anderson and Jordan Snowden.

St. John's got 19 points from Jair Brady and 11 from Steve Keser to hand Poolesville's varsity a 48-43 setback. Adam Powell had 13 points for the Indians.

Poolesville's jayvees built a 16-point halftime lead and coasted to a 41-24 triumph. Brandon Moore led all scorers with 12 points and Zach Stowers added 11 for the winners.

STRONG FIRST HALF LEADS BALLENGER OVER MSD - 11/30/00

Ballenger Creek's jayvees closed out the first half with an 11-0 run to take a 17-2 lead at intermission and went on to record a 32-15 win over MSD. Andrew Barber led the winners with eight points while Daren Cook had 12 for the Orioles.

MSD HOLDS ON IN LEAGUE DEBUT - 11/29/00

MSD nearly let a 10-point lead get away, but held on for a 29-25 victory over Middletown's jayvees in the League season opener.

Davon Cook had eight points, Ryan Shepard and Scott Lehmann five each for the first-year Orioles. Tyler Moser led all scorers with 12 points for Middletown while Pat Carney and Josh Nesbitt added four each.
