LINGANORE, POOLESVILLE GAIN HOLIDAY SWEEPS - 01/21/02

Linganore sealed a 32-29 jayvee win over Middletown with a free throw in the final seconds. Timmy Fleming had seven points for the Lancers and Andrew Rhoads added six. The Knights were led by Ryan Gilligan with eight points and Patrick McCarrick with seven.

The Lancers also won the varsity game 42-18. No additional detailed were made available.

Poolesville broke open a close varsity game in the second quarter and then held on to beat Brunswick 35-25. Brunswick was led by Chris Papanicolas and Chris Rucker with five points apiece. Eric Zwilsky kept Brunswick close with tough defense and chipped in with four points. Poolesville was lead by Zach Stowers with 13 points. Brandon Moore and Tyler Bierly scored nine points and six points, respectively. Kyle Wood grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Poolesville on the boards.

Jay Lowe hit a three-point shot with less than 10 seconds left to send the game into overtime and Poolesville went on to win the jayvee game 29-27. The Indians scored the lone basket in overtime and went into a four-corner offense to run the clock. Leading scorers for Poolesville were Jay Lowe with 13 points and Kyle Dickerson with six. Grant Wilson scored nine points for Brunswick.

Todd Haldis (10) and Tony Allen (7) led a list of 11 Monocacy scorers as the Mustangs defeated Catoctin 45-20 in varsity play. Top scorers for Catoctin were Ben Rose with 12 points and Jake Yocum with six.

Catoctin won the jayvee game 31-27. The Cougars were led by Josh Chmelik with 10 points and Brian Woodward with six. For Monocacy, Gideon Obamyami scored 10 and Sam Drake added five points.

WINDSOR KNOLLS HANDS BALLENGER JAYVEES FIRST SETBACK - 01/20/02

They're even. Windsor Knolls (14-1), handed it's only loss by Ballenger Creek in December, returned the favor by snapping the Bulldogs 12-game unbeaten streak, 29-28. Mike Hall's free throw with two seconds left sealed the victory. Zach Kebetz had 10 points to lead the winners while Hall and Mike Mullikin added seven points each. Dante Stansbury led BC with 10 points.

Windsor Knolls made it a sweep with a 32-30 varsity win. Steven Anderson's 17 points paced the Hawks while Kevin Henry had 11 points and Danny Edwards nine for the 'Dogs.

Brett Bonneville came up big for TJ once again, pouring in 27 points to lead the varsity Patriots past Linganore 45-42. Paul Rhoads had 11 points for the Lancers.

TJ won the jayvee game 35-31 behind the one-two punch of Brandon Rascoe (14 points) and Artez Smallwood (11 points). For Linganore, Vince Weaver led the way with 15 points.

West Frederick placed three players in double figures - Jerame Duvall (17), Malcolm Kates (12) and Devin Dykes (10) - in taking a 53-39 triumph over an inspired St. John's varsity. The Vikings were led by the scoring of John Magro with 11 points.

Q'Monte Methany had 16 points, Josh Nixon and Chris Thompson 10 each as the Cadets won the jayvee game 50-27. St. John's was led by Matt Stephey with 10 points and Tim Peifer, Stefen Omelchenko and John O'Donohue had five points each.

In a tightly-contested game with numerous lead changes, Monocacy slipped by Poolesville's varsity in overtime, 45-40. Monocacy's Isaiah Martin scored four of his team's six points in the overtime period and had nine total points to spark the win. Al Leech added seven points for the Mustangs. Poolesville was led by Tyler Bierly with 13 points. Zach Stowers and Kyle Wood chipped in with nine points apiece.

Gideon Obamyami's 18-point proved too much for Poolesville jayvees to overcome as Monocacy took a 37-21 victory. Dennis Williams scored nine points for Monocacy while Jay Lowe led the Indians with eight markers.

Brunswick raced to a 68-30 varsity win against Catoctin. The Railroaders, who led 36-16 at the half, were paced by Robert Mullinix' 19 points. Michael Topper collected 12 points for the Cougars.

Catoctin rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to win the jayvee game 36-33. Josh Chmelik had 13 points to lead the winners. Grant Wilson tallied a team-high nine points for Brunswick.

Middletown held on for a 42-41 jayvee triumph over MSD. The Orioles hit three-pointers at the buzzer in both the second and fourth quarters, but fell just short on the scoreboard. MSD was lead by Scott Lehman with 27 points while Patrick McCarrick had 13, Tyler Ausherman eight and Ryan Gilligan seven for the Knights.

BALLENGER, WINDSOR KNOLLS SWEEP FOES - 01/17/02

Dante Stansbury netted 13 points and Daniel Shannon added nine as Ballenger Creek remained unbeaten with a 37-23 jayvee win against Poolesville. Jay Lowe led the Indians with nine markers.

Ballenger outscored Poolesville 23-4 in the first half of the varsity game and went on to win 42-19. Kevin Henry had seven points to pace the winners while Zach Stowers led Poolesville with five points.

Windsor Knolls ran past Brunswick's varsity 60-25 on the strength of 22 points from Steve Anderson and 12 from Matt Urie. Aaron Main and Chris Rucker paced Brunswick with seven and six points, respectively.

Mike Hall led a fast start for the Hawks' jayvees with 18 first-quarter points and Windsor Knolls went on to a 59-30 victory. Hall finished with 24 points and five steals. Mike Mullikin chipped in with 10 points. Brunswick was led by Evan Chaney with seven points.

KNIGHTS, LIONS SPLIT MVAP TWINBILL - 01/16/02

Pat Carney's 12 points led Middletown to a 39-25 varsity win against Walkersville. Derek Hubbard and Joe Reilly netted eight points each for the Lions.

Walkersville won the jayvee contest 45-32 behind Ricky Smith's 20 points and the strong defensive guard play of Chad Benford and Bruce Gaines. Patrick McCarrick tallied 12 points and Paul Smith eight for the Knights.

TJ HOLDS OFF MSD FOR ONE-POINT WIN - 01/14/02

Steven Powell scored with eight seconds left after MSD had come all the way back from a 19-8 halftime deficit as TJ picked up a hard-earned 31-30 win. Brandon Rascoe had 10 points to lead the Patriots. Scott Lehmann had a game-high 17 points for MSD and Kevin Berrigan netted 10 points.

MIDDLETOWN, WINDSOR KNOLLS WIN PAIR; LANCERS, INDIANS SPLIT - 01/13/02

Middletown held off Brunswick 43-37 for an MVAL varsity win. The Knights led 23-14 at the half. Tyler Moser had 16 points to lead the Knights and Colin Donovan chipped in with 11. Robert Mullinix tallied nine for Brunswick.

The jayvee Knights trailed 12-4 after one period, but outscored the Railroaders 27-8 in the second and third frames to secure a 39-28 victory. Patrick McCarrick paced the winners with 15 markers while Grant Wilson had 13 in a losing cause.

Windsor Knolls' varsity jumped out to a big first quarter lead and never looked back, beating St. John's 63-20. Stephen Anderson led all scorers with 24 points. Paul Crone had a solid performance for St. John's with nine points.

St. John's trailed the jayvee game by just one point, 13-12, at the half. But Windsor Knolls came out strong after the intermission and claimed a 56-28 win. The Hawks had a balanced attack led by Mike Jarboe with 12 points while Zack Kebetz, Michael Hall and Mike Mullikin had 10 points each. St. John's was led by Matt Stephey with 15 points and Tim Peifer with six.

Paul Rhoads had 13 points as Linganore's varsity held off Poolesville 43-38. Zach Stowers led the Indians with a game-high 16 points.

Poolesville won the prelim 37-23 with Matt Weber and Jay Lowe accounting for 13 and 10 points, respectively. Vincent Weaver led the Lancers with seven points.

CMC SWEEPS INTER-DIVISIONAL ACTION - 01/12/02

West Frederick broke out to a 17-4 varsity lead and never looked back in a 46-28 win against Brunswick. Malcomb Kattes led the Cadets with 15 points while Daniel Toft and Brandon Giles added 10 points each. Kennard Hueston had 10 points and Robert Mullinix eight for the Railroaders.

The Cadets broke the jayvee game open with a 17-3 run in the fourth quarter to take a 44-21 decision. Q'Monte Matheny netted a team-high 12 points for the winners while Steven Custis contributed 11 points. Grant Wilson's seven points led Brunswick.

Steve Anderson had 24 points to lead Windsor Knolls to a 72-11 varsity win over Catoctin. Ben Rose had four points for the Cougars.

Windsor Knolls also won the jayvee game 40-22. Zach Kebetz led the Hawks with 14 points.

Monocacy's varsity avenged an earlier overtime loss to Middletown, defeating the Knights 39-26. Patrick Uthe and Albert Leech both had seven points to lead a list of ten Monocacy scorers. Top scorers for Middletown Tyler Moser and Alex Carr who both had six points.

The Mustangs won a close jayvee contest 29-26. Taylor Hubbard's 12 points led Monocacy and Dennis Williams added five. Middletown's top scorers were Patrick McCarrick and Josh Meikrantz, both with nine points.

BALLENGER JAYVEES MAKE IT 11-0, VARSITY WINS TOO - 01/10/02

Ballenger Creek stretched it's unbeaten jayvee win streak to 11 with a 33-23 win against St. John's. Dante Stansbury led all scorers with nine points for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs outscored a stubborn Vikings varsity 25-2 to start the second half and take command in a 58-20 triumph. Ballenger was led by Mike Clementson with 16 points and Kevin Henry with 14 points. St. Johns was led by Paul Crone with eight.

WALKERSVILLE HOLDS ON TO BEAT MSD - 01/09/02

Up 39-14 after three periods, Walkersville withstood a 24-points MSD barrage in the fourth quarter to claim a 47-38 victory. Scott Lehmann had 15 points, Kevin Berrigan 10 and Brandon McMillan eight for the Orioles. Bruce Gaines notched 11 points for the winners while Jonathon Nusbaum and Rickey Smith added eight apiece.

TJ, WINDSOR KNOLLS, LINGANORE TAKE TWO EACH - 01/06/02

Up by 20 at the halftime, TJ's jayvees withstood an 18-6 Middletown run in the third quarter to claim a 52-33 victory. Brandon Rascoe had 16 points to lead the winners while Patrick McCarrick had 13 points and Josh Meikrantz eight for the Knights. The Patriots also won the varsity game 31-22. No other details were made available.

Steve Anderson had 17 points and Matt Urie added 12 to lead Windsor Knolls to a 60-26 varsity triumph over Brunswick. Chris Rucker tallied six points for the Railroaders.

The Hawks also won the jayvee game 61-26 with Michael Hall netting a game-high 17 points for Windsor Knolls. Austin Darling's 10 points were tops for Brunswick.

Linganore's varsity saw Mike Herrod lead a balanced scoring attack with 11 points in a 49-18 win against Walkersville. Kevin O'Brien had six points in a losing cause.

The Lancers came back from an 11-2 first-quarter deficit to win the jayvee game 36-32. Steven Herrod had seven points and Zach Cratty six for Linganore while Chad Benford and Jonathan Nusbaum did most of Walkersville's damage with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

TJ TRIMS MONOCACY, WINDSOR KNOLLS TOPS LANCERS - 01/05/02

Brett Bonneville scored 28 points to lead TJ's varsity to a 57-51 victory over Monocacy. Brad Betson led the Mustangs with 12 points.

The Patriots also won the jayvee game 52-40. Artez Smallwood had 13 points and Shawn Rasco added 12 for TJ. Top scorers for Monocacy were Dennis Williams with 17 points and Gideon Omanowski with 12.

Windsor Knolls won the season's first matchup of last year's jayvee tournament finalists, beating Linganore 38-28. Greg Price's 11 points and eight from Matt Urie paced the winners. Jon Sweadner tallied ten for Linganore.

The Hawks got scoring from every player as they defeated the Lancers 61-22 in the jayvee game. The WK offense was led by Mike Jarboe with 12 points and Mike Hall with 11. Zack Kebetz had another good effort with strong rebounding and six points. The Lancers were paced by Andrew Rhodes with 11 points.

West Frederick placed three players in double figures in taking a 48-37 varsity triumph against Walkersville. Malcolm Kattes had 18 points, Jerame Duvall 15 and Devin Dykes 10 for the Cadets. Joseph Riley led the Lions with 10 points.

Q'monte Matheny netted 17 points and Chris Thompson contributed 16 as West Frederick won the jayvee game 51-28. For Walkersville, Jonathon Nusbaum totalled seven points.

Middletown strengthened it's MVAL varsity lead with a 47-15 triumph over Catoctin. Tyler Moser paced the winners with eight points while Michael Topper was the game's high-scorer with nine points for the Cougars.

Catoctin defeated Middletown 38-22 in the prelim. Josh Chmelik led the way for the Cougars, netting 12 points. Derek Woelfel helped out with nine. Middletown was led by Josh Meikrantz's six points.

Brunswick defeated MSD for it's first jayvee win of the year, 45-41. Grant Wilson had 23 points for the Railroaders. The Orioles, back from a long layoff, were led by Scott Lehman with 19 points and Kevin Berrigan's 17.

MONOCACY, BALLENGER SPLIT; TJ, WK WIN TWO - 01/03/02

Monocacy came back from a dismal start to trip Ballenger Creek's varsity 42-39 and earn a split of a doubleheader. The Mustangs fell behind 11-0, but got to within 22-18 at the half and took control with a 15-7 third quarter blitz. Monocacy was led by Brad Betson with 11 points and Matt Foley with 10 points. Ballenger got 12 points from Kevin Henry.

Luis Machado had eight points to lead Ballenger's jayvees to their 10th win without a loss, a 30-16 decision over Monocacy. No other information was made available.

TJ's varsity broke away from a 27-14 halftime advantage with a 19-2 run in the third period as they defeated St. John's 65-22. Brett Bonneville led the winners with 22 points while Nathan Dowiak added 11. Paul Crone and John Magro paced the Vikings with seven and five points, respectively.

The Patriots closed out both halves strong to win the jayvee contest 45-25. All but two points of the final margin were accounted for in a 15-6 second quarter spurt and 14-5 finish. TJ was lead by Sean Rascoe with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists while Brandon Rascoe followed with 11 points and nine rebounds. Terrence Kerns played great defense with four steals. Matt Stephey led St. John's with 10 points, including two three-pointers. Stephen O'Melchenko added five points.

Windsor Knolls broke a 13-13 tie by scoring the final nine points of the second quarter to build a 22-13 halftime lead on the way to a 47-30 jayvee win against Catoctin. The Hawks were led by Zack Kebetz with 15 points. Catoctin was paced by Brian Woodward with nine markers.

The Hawks turned a 22-2 first-quarter lead into a 69-13 decision in the varsity game. Tom Mackey scored the game's first eight points on two three-pointers and a deuce and finished with 13 points for WK. Steve Anderson added 14 points and Matt Urie 10. Corey Myers had seven points and Jacob Yocum six for the Cougars.

BRUNSWICK, WALKERSVILLE LAUNCH 2002 WITH SPLIT - 01/02/02

In a see-saw defensive battle, Walkersville and Brunswick went to overtime in varsity action with the Railroaders prevailing 34-29. With time running out in regulation, Walkersville's Nick Decarlo hit a three-pointer to send the game into OT. DeCarlo finished with eight points while Joe Reilly had 10 to lead the hosts. Brunswick got eight points from Robert Mullinix and a game-high 14 from Chris Rucker.

Walkersville outscored the visitors 10-4 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 37-30 jayvee win. Jonathan Nusbaum and Rickey Smith led the winners with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Grant Wilson had 12 points to pace Brunswick while Brandon Bowens chipped in with 10.

CMC SWEEPS EIGHT FROM MVAL FOES - 12/23/01

Monocacy darted to a 29-11 halftime lead and defeated St. John's 44-23 in varsity play. Paul Crone led the Vikings with 10 points while Monocacy got balanced scoring distribution between 11 different players.

Gideon Obamwonyi scored 25 points to lead Monocacy's jayvees to a 42-23 victory over St. John's. Ten of those points came in the second quarter. Matt Stephey had nine points and Joe Winters had eight for St John's.

Linganore took early command and defeated Brunswick's varsity 51-22. The Lancers, who led 22-8 at the half, got 15 points from Timothy Randolph and 12 from Jay Greene. Chris Papanicolas had six points to lead the Railroaders.

Zachary Cratty had 10 points and Steven Herrod netted nine as the Lancers held off Brunswick 40-37 in the jayvee game. Brunswick trailed by seven after three quarters and was led by Marcus Henderson with nine points and Brandon Bowens with eight.

West Frederick doubled up Poolesville in the jayvee game 48-23. Q'monte Matheny once again led the Cadets with 16 points. Josh Nixon added 11 for the winners. Poolesville was led by Kyle Dickerson and Matt Ray with seven points apiece.

Windsor Knolls' jayvees extended a 10-point halftime lead to a 43-25 victory with a 20-point third quarter outburst. The Hawks were led by Michael Hall with 11 points while Chad Poffenberger, Zach Kebetz and Michael Jarboe adding six points each. The Knights were led by Josh Meikrantz with six markers and Ryan Gilligan with five.

WEST FREDERICK, WINDSOR KNOLLS CHALK UP TWO EACH - 12/22/01

Fouled just before the final horn, Danny Toft hit the second of two free throws to give West Frederick a 43-42 varsity win over Linganore. Malcolm Kattes led the winners with 15 points while Jerame Duvall added 11 and Brandon Giles 10. The Lancers had three players with 10 points each - Timothy Randolph, Jon Sweadner and Paul Rhoads.

West Frederick used a 21-2 run in the third quarter to take the jayvee contest 39-25. Q'monte Matheny totaled 13 points for the Cadets and Robert Bennett led Linganore with 10 points.

Windsor Knolls took a 26-3 lead after one quarter and defeated St. John's in varsity action 73-24. Stephen Anderson poured in 29 points for the Hawks while Greg Price and Matt Urie contributed 10 each.

The Hawks shook off a determined Vikings jayvee squad with an 18-point third quarter in claiming a 42-22 victory. The Hawks led 18-8 at halftime, but played good defense in the third to pull away. Mike Hall and Danny Mulhern led the way with 10 points each and Chad Poffenberger contributed eight for Windsor Knolls. The Vikings were led by Larry Hodgekiss with eight markers.

TJ's varsity jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first quarter and held on to defeat a hustling Poolesville squad 52-41. The Indians were led by Zach Stowers who tossed in 17 points and Brandon Moore added 10. TJ got 20 points from Brett Bonneville while Drew Chapman Nathan Dowiak added ten points each.

Poolesville made a three-point basket at the buzzer to send the game in overtime, then defeated TJ 37-35 in the extra period. Poolesville was led by Tony Cain with 11 points. The Pats were led by Brandon Rascoe with 16 points while Sean Rascoe added 10.

Monocacy's varsity beat Catoctin. The Cougars were led in scoring by Michael Topper and Ben Rose, each with 10 points. Jake Yocum also contributed six points. Monocacy was led by Tony Allen and Brad Betson who each scored 10 points. Isaiah Martin added nine points for the Mustangs.

Down 16-10 at the half, Catoctin battled back to win the jayvee game 30-27. Catoctin was led by David O'Brien's 10 points. Derek Woelfel helped out with eight points. Matty Thompson had another great night on defense, forcing six turnovers in the fourth quarter. Monocacy was lead by Taylor Hubbard's nine points.

TJ TAKES TWO, BALLENGER JAYVEE GOES TO 9-0 - 12/20/01

TJ took control with an 18-4 lead after one quarter and went on to register a 52-37 varsity victory over Walkersville. Bret Bonneville had 22 points, Nathan Dowiak 11 and Josh Nesbitt eight for the Patriots. Devin Trout was tops for the Lions with 11 points.

The jayvee Pats also made an 17-11 halftime lead stand up for a 39-32 win. TJ was lead by Sean Rascoe with 14 points followed by Brandon Rascoe who netted eight. The Lions were lead by Chad Benford with eight points and Bruce Gaines had seven.

Ballenger headed into the holiday break with a perfect 9-0 jayvee mark after a 48-23 triumph over Catoctin. Luis Machado collected 12 points while Daniel Shannon and Dante Stansbury had 10 points each for the winners.

Pat Greene scored a season-high 14 points and Sean Cortney hit three three-pointers in the first quarter as Ballenger won the varsity game 72-26. Michael Topper paced the Cougars with eight points.

MIDDLETOWN REMAINS ONLY VARSITY UNBEATEN - 12/16/01

Middletown's varsity went to 4-0, beating Poolesville 33-27. Middletown was led by Tyler Moser with 10 points. Poolesville was paced by Brandon Moore with 10 points and Zach Stowers contributed nine.

The Knights also won the jayvee game 23-18. Middletown got off to a 10-2 halftime lead and held on to win a defensive struggle. Middletown was led by Patrick McCarrick with 11 points. Poolesville was led by Jay Lowe and Matt Ray, each with six points.

Monocacy outscored Brunswick in every quarter and claimed a 48-31 varsity win. Sammy Arouni had nine points and Isaiah Martin eight to pace a balanced attack for the winners. Eric Zwilsky of Brunswick led all scorers with 12 tallies.

The Mustangs ran off a 24-4 blitz in the second quarter to win the jayvee contest 52-27. Dennis Williams poured in 18 points and Gideon Obamwonyi added 13 for Monocacy. Grant Wilson had nine points in a losing cause.

St. John's managed to stay close for three quarters only to see their hopes of a second win diminish in the final period as Walkersville pulled away for a 47-28 varsity win. The Lions were led by the scoring of Devin Trout with 16 points while the Vikings got nine points from John Magro.

The Vikings picked up their first jayvee win of the year, but saw a 27-13 lead turn into a fourth-quarter deficit before pulling out a 39-35 verdict. St. John's had a balanced scoring attack led by Matt Stephey with 10 points. John O'Donoghue and Stefan Omechenko added nine points apiece. Walkersville was paced by Jonathan Nusbaum with 14 points and Kevin Jandovitz with nine.

MONOCACY, WALKERSVILLE VARSITIES WIN, POOLESVILLE WINS FIRST - 12/15/01

Monocacy jumped to a 19-7 lead after one quarter and extended it from there in defeating West Frederick's varsity 52-29. Isaiah Martin and Sammy Arouni had 15 and 12 points, respectively, to lead the win. Jerame Duvall had 13 points for the Cadets.

Q'monte Matheny had 21 points as West Frederick won the jayvee contest 46-26. The Cadets used a 19-2 run in the second period to take command. Gideon Obamwonyi paced the Mustangs with 16 points.

Walkersville led 10-7 after one quarter and never trailed in taking a 39-34 varsity decision over Catoctin. Joseph Reilly and a game-high 22 points for the Lions and Devin Trout poured in 10. Ben Rose led Catoctin with 10 points.

Catoctin broke away from a 30-30 halftime tie to take a 15-point lead and held on for a 58-48 win in the jayvee game. Catoctin was lead by Derek Woelfel, who netted 21 points. He was helped out by Brian Woodward's 12 points and Josh Chmelik's 11. Matty Thompson led the defensive charge, forcing six turnovers in the pivotal third quarter. Walkersville was led by Jonathan Nusbaum who totalled 20 points and had several steals on the defensive side.

Poolesville pulled away with a strong second half performance to win it's first varsity game of the year 40-29 over a determined St. John's team. The Indians were led by Brandon Moore with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists. Also contributing to the win was Tyler Bierly with 10 points and Kyle Wood with five rebounds and a solid second half defensive effort. St. John's got 10 points from Andrew Murphy and eight from Job Merkel.

After a closely contested first half, Poolesville's jayvees pulled away to defeat St. John's 34-12. A balanced attack was led by Wes Ketchum with nine points, followed by Matt Conley and Matt Ray with eights points each. Stefan O'Melchenko scored seven points for the Vikings.

BALLENGER JAYVEE GOES TO 8-0, VARSITY LOSES FIRST - 12/13/01

Ballenger Creek's jayvees had three players in double figures and remained unbeaten in eight games with a 36-32 win over previously-undefeated Windsor Knolls. Luis Machado had 12 points while Randal Smedley and Dante Stansbury added 10 points each for the Bulldogs. Michael Jarboe led the Hawks with 11 points.

Windsor Knolls knocked Ballenger from the ranks of the unbeaten in the varsity game 44-36, outscoring Ballenger 18-5 in the second quarter to lead 25-20 at intermission. They never trailed after that. Stephen Anderson led all scorers with 17 points, Matt Urie and Greg Price contributed 12 points apiece to lead the Hawks. Danny Edwards led Ballenger with 10 points.

TJ bolted to a 28-9 lead after two quarters and coasted to a 45-35 varsity victory over intra-city rival West Frederick. Brett Bonneville paced the winners with 26 points while Josh Nesbitt added eight and Danny Lagdon had six points. Jerame Duval had a team-high 14 points for the Cadets. Malcolm Kattes followed up with eight points and Daniel Toft contributed seven points.

West Frederick won jayvee contest 58-38. The Cadets broke the game open in the second quarter, outscoring the Pats 24-9 to lead 36-18 at the half. Steven Custis poured in 17 points and Q'monte Matheny followed closedly with 16 for the winners. TJ was led by Artez Smallwood with 11 points. Brandon Rascoe added eight and Iman James six.

WALKERSVILLE, POOLESVILLE SPLIT; MSD TOPS LANCERS - 12/10/01

Walkersville's varsity broke into the win column with a 39-27 victory over Poolesville. The Lions were paced by Michael Sellers with 11 points and four blocked shots. Chris Zimmerman added eight points while teaming up with Greg Brooks to play excellent defense. Poolesville was led by Brandon Moore's nine points.

Poolesville won a low-scoring jayvee contest 19-12. Matt Ray and Jay Lowe totaled six points apiece for the winners.

MSD got out of the starting block quickly, scoring the first 12 points of the game, and survived Linganore's agressive full court press during second half for a 51-39 win, it's second of the season. The Orioles had three players in double digits - Scott Lehmann (19) points, Kevin Berrigan (13) and Brandon McMillan (11). Linganore got 11 points from Andrew Rhoads.

MIDDLETOWN, MONOCACY, LINGANORE WIN A PAIR - 12/09/01

Middletown outscored Brunswick 10-0 in the first quarter enroute to a 38-20 varsity win against Brunswick. Ty Main and Colin Donovan had eight points apiece for the Knights and Aaron Main had seven for Brunswick.

The Knights javyees won their first game of the season, holding for a 29-25 victory in the opener. Middletown lead throughout the game although the Railroaders outscored them in the second Half. Eight players scored for the winners, led by Patrick McCarrick with eight points and Kevin Murphy and Josh Meikrantz with six each. Brunswick was paced by Grant Wilson with nine markers and Marcus Henderson added six.

Nine players scored as Monocacy trimmed Walkersville 33-22 in varsity play. Leading scorers for Monocacy were Justin McLeod with seven points and Albert Leech with six. Nick DeCarlo tallied six points to lead the Lions.

Monacacy held off an upset-minded Walkersville jayvee team, winning 24-23. Taylor Hubbard had 14 points and Gideon Obamwamyi 13 rebounds for the Mustangs.

Linganore's varsity outpaced St. John's 55-20. The Lancers had balanced scoring throughout it's lineup, led by the shooting of Jonathan Traylor with 10 points. The Vikings' John Magro and Alex Kahl had strong performances with 13 rebounds and eight points, respectively.

Phil Monteau had 13 points and Andrew Rhoads added 11 the Lancers won the jayvee tilt 44-22. Matt Stephey had 11 points to lead St. John's.

Poolesville dashed to a 26-7 halftime lead and held on to defeat MSD 44-28 in jayvee action. With a barrage of three-pointers and great defense, MSD came back in the second half to close the gap to 11 points before falling short. Jay Lowe (15 points) and Matt Weber(10 points) set the pace for the Indians. Scott Lehmann (11 points) and Kevin Berrigan (7 points) led the Orioles effort.

BALLENGER, TJ, WINDSOR KNOLLS BRING OUT BROOMS - 12/08/01

Trailing 36-25 after three periods, Ballenger Creek's varsity rallied to defeat West Frederick 52-47 in overtime of a battle of CMC unbeatens. Both teams placed three players in double figures. For the winners, Kevin Henry tossed in 18 points, Danny Edwards had 11 and Sean Courtney 10. Danny Toft led the Cadets with 14 points while Brandon Giles added 13 points and Malcolm Kattes 12.

Ballenger made a 17-10 first-quarter lead stand up in the opener, taking a 49-42 decision. Luis Machado's 17 points was tops for the Bulldogs and Dante Stansbury contributed 11 points. Q'monte Matheny led all scorers with 21 for West Frederick while Steven Custis tallied 13 points.

TJ beat Catoctin in varsity action 42-33. Brett Bonnevell contributed 14 points to the win while Michael Topper and Jacob Yocum both scored seven points for Catoctin. Nathan Dowiak also scored 12 points for TJ.

In a battle in which the lead changed hands several times, Brandon Rascoe hit several key foul shots in the last 45 seconds to help TJ pull out a 41-37 jayvee win over the Cougars. Rascoe lead all scorers with 20 points. Brian Woodward lead Catoctin with 10 points.

Windsor Knolls had little trouble in a 51-18 varsity triumph over Poolesville. Stephen Anderson tossed in 19 points for the winners while Tim Cunningham and Greg Price totalled eight apiece. Brandon Moore and Zach Stowers led the Indians with six points each.

The Hawks jumped out to a 14-2 first-quarter lead in the jayvee game, but a determined Poolesville team cut that margin to 15-10 at the half. Windsor Knolls then blanked the home team 12-0 in the third period and claimed a 34-17 victory. WK was led by Mike Hall with 11 and Mike Jarboe and Danny Mulhern with each each. The Indians were led by Jay Lowe with nine points.
