There's funny things people are saying!

"There's three of them." said my student today. What's wrong with that sentence? Have you noticed that lots of people are using "there's" incorrectly?

English is shifting under our noses! Nobody notices ... Now that I've told you, perhaps you can find other examples. Cargo handlers, bus drivers, air line pilots, scientists, radio talk show hosts, and television newscasters all make this "mistake". At what point will it no longer be a mistake? Have the use of "is" already shifted irretrievably?
