CHAPTER 16

THE PURPOSE OF THE CLEAR THINKING PHILOSOPHY

What is the purpose of the Clear Thinking philosophy? Before such a question can be answered, one must ask some prior questions. For instance, what is philosophy? What is the purpose of philosophy? Obviously, the history of philosophy cannot be dealt with here. However, we can say a few things about it in order to lay down a base for a short discussion of the philosophy of Clear Thinking.

Philosophy has a bad name among scientists and those who are in the business of honest factual thinking. Such questions as, do I exist? If so, how can I prove it? How can I prove those around me are not figments of my imagination? Such questions are usually followed by so much mumbo-jumbo and unintelligible rambling; it is no wonder philosophy of this type has, for the most part, been discarded by the scientists of the world.

So-called religious philosophers, in the past, have tried to produce truth by digging into their own biases, prejudices, dreams and holy books. Such philosophers proudly proclaimed the earth was flat, men had more teeth than women, men had one less rib than women, the sun traveled around the earth, God made the dark races to be the servants and slaves of the white races and many other such unsupported claims.

Is it any wonder the thinking men of science have rejected such philosophy? Anyone could have simply counted the teeth and ribs and found man and woman had the same number. Less than four hundred years ago, Bruno was burned at the stake in 1600 AD because he counted the teeth and ribs. He said man and woman had the same number. He also proved the earth traveled around the sun and the stars were suns in a limitless universe.

Bruno and countless others like him, were burned, starved, beheaded, tortured, imprisoned, stripped of their wealth and forced to watch their families being tortured and killed. Then they were blinded so the last images in their minds were the pictures of loved ones being tortured. The “religious philosophers” and their religious followers inflicted horrors upon horrors upon these honest scientific clear thinkers. Why? The religious philosophers were, and are, threatened by simple contradictory Facts. If such facts were accepted, they would cost them their power and wealth. In turn, they hate provable truth. They hate facts because facts conflict with the fantasy that they teach. Their whole, so called, philosophies and religions are based on fantasy.

The modern equivalent to the old Christian philosophers is to be found in the New Age movement. Here you have all of the errors of the early church and of the ancient Hindu philosophy that is presently being Westernized and Americanized. Their concept is that all True reality is to be found "in the spirit world." The material world is simply an illusion caused by our lack of spiritual insight. This leads to a multitude of errors in thinking and action. Ants, rocks, trees, lakes, volcanoes, animals, rats, weather and such, all have the spirit of God in them. As such, all are sacred and, therefore, we must not use animals to learn about medicine and disease. They suggest (and demand) that we only use people to learn these things. (I think I got that right.) Besides, if you live right and communicate with the spirits, you will not get sick to start with. Oh, and don't forget, you should not eat meat. Haven’t we heard all this before? (Don't forget, you can be right for the wrong reasons. A broken clock is right twice a day.)

In the New Age movement, the method for gaining knowledge and insight is not through studying the sciences or other wisdom of mankind. The way you get smart and wise is to sit on the ground cross-legged and say "Ohm" until your mind blanks out. Pretty soon, the spirits take pity on your misguided attempts to gain knowledge and they "enlighten" you by giving you a vision of light, or something. I don't know about that. The nearest I ever came to "seeing the light" was while having an exciting intimate relationship.

I do not even say that those who sit cross-legged on the ground and say "Ohm," may not stumble upon some truth about our universe. After all, they have learned enough to reject the Christian religions of today. Book after book has been written by them in both modern times and anciently. But I do say that those who present something new to us must furnish some repetitious and duplicable facts upon which to base their claim. So far, they have not.

Many have sought to define philosophy. Those who hold the Clear Thinking philosophy define it generally something like this.

PHILOSOPHY IS THE INVESTIGATION OF REALITY, THE LOVE OF WISDOM, KNOWLEDGE AND TRUTH, THE SEARCH FOR IT, THE EXTENSION OF IT AND THE PRESERVATION OF IT.

(Obviously, the definitions found in this book are mine and are not the definitions found in most dictionaries, but correct me if I am wrong. Are the definitions in the dictionaries not put there by men? Are they not expressing their own opinion of the subject? I am defining these terms and ideas as I am using them in this book. My opinion is as good and to the point as theirs.)

The method used to investigate and search for the truth and the truths of life is the study and application of empirical facts, observation, personal experience, utilization of the latest scientific findings known to us, and most importantly, the application of honest logical thought and wholesome morals. It was through this same scientific method that I arrived at a solid, factual philosophy that I call the Philosophy of Clear Thinking. I discovered this before I knew others had arrived at these same conclusions.

This philosophy is not static. We do not claim to have reached the ultimate in knowledge about our universe. We simply claim, in light of the facts presently known to us, the Clear Thinking philosophy is the best philosophy by which man may judge and control his own life. We further claim this philosophy is the best philosophy by which nations and governments should judge themselves.

To my knowledge, this is the only Honest philosophy in existence on this earth today. It does not claim to have supernatural revelations or visions upon which to base its conclusions. Nor does it accept any such claim made by others as valid. It does not claim to have all the answers. If it did there would be no need for science. We Do claim the Clear Thinking philosophy is the only philosophy that will set the honest thinking person free from superstition, false guilt and tyranny of the mind. Once the socially, culturally and religiously imposed burden of mental slavery and mind control has been removed by the truths found in this philosophy, man will be set free to be the successful, happy human being that he is capable of being.

Factually, we know little or nothing about the other side of death and even less about the other side of birth. We must, therefore, start with this fact. I am here you are here. Soon we will experience death and then we will not be here. If we are some place else after death, then so much the better for us. We do not negate what we do not know. We do, however, ask honest questions about these past and future stages of mankind, if there are such a states.

So, we begin with the facts of birth, life and death. This means we are dealing only with what we will call a parenthesis in the universe, man's micro spot on the infinitely long yardstick of the existence of time. There may have been events and things for us before our parenthesis and there maybe events and things for us after our parenthesis. But for our purpose, we are dealing only with the Clear Thinking philosophy during the period between this birth and this death. We are dealing with life, facts and science. We are dealing morally and honestly with them. We are dealing with Now. That is All we Know! If we deal honestly with the present, we will be better equipped to deal honestly with the future after death, if there be such.

We can ask our question again. What is the purpose of the Clear Thinking philosophy?

The purpose of Clear Thinking is to find out the truth about life and our universe in order to make the period between birth and death as Peaceful, Pleasurable, Profitable and Productive as possible. It is to leave our world in such a good shape that our children will have an equal or better chance to accomplish this.

These Clear Thinking attributes and goals make it very obnoxious to certain people and certain institutions in our world and especially in our country. The problem is these other people (believers and politicians) have diverse goals that are incompatible with the peace, pleasure, profit and productiveness toward which the Clear Thinking Philosophy works.

The Believers' goals include:

UNLEARNED KNOWLEDGE,
UNDESERVED POWER,
UNEARNED WEALTH AND
UNEXCELLED AUTHORITY.

Have you actually studied power? What is it that gives one the power and authority to impose the mind and will of one person over another? Why does one person do exactly what someone else wishes him to do even though he hates doing it? Power and authority are simply advantages that one person has over those around him. It is simply a successful method of coercion or blackmail that uses Our Own Morality (our own sense of fair play, our guilt and our sense of responsibility) as weapons against us. Because of our honesty and humanity, we submit to those who have authority over us. Do not forget, one's belief in humanity, and his hope for money works just as well (and maybe better) for whipping people into line than does platted leather. Man is free only to the extent he does not allow himself to be coerced or blackmailed into undesired action or unwilled consent. The strongest bonds of slavery are ignorance and belief in authorities.

No one is free physically. Either by free will, or against one's will, every man and woman is subjected to many others who have certain coercive powers over them. There are husbands, wives, children, mothers, fathers, teachers, policemen, judges, employers, employees, tax collectors, banks, utility companies, creditors, debtors, lawyers, county commissioners, presidents, congress, governors, boards, clergy, on and on the list could go.

To make things worse, most people seem to accept this mad struggle and are caught up in its various maneuvers, strategies, intrigues and wars. They are all trying to climb each other's back to get a little authority and power over a few others. Reduced to a cartoon there would be a huge pyramid of struggling heads, arms and legs with no one secure in any position. At the bottom would be a great river of blood flowing out contaminating the whole earth.

Such a cartoon is also the picture of the philosophies and religions of most of mankind. Especially is it a picture of the Christian religion and their philosophies in action. Any philosophy or religion that has as its goal, the salvation (read conquest) of mankind, and the subjugation of its enemies, then that religion or philosophy hates the Clear Thinking philosophy. Not only do these religions and philosophies hate the Clear Thinking philosophy, they also fear it. They fear it because in their minds they Know the Clear Thinker’s attitude is more godly (good) than their own. Therefore, they fight Clear Thinking by any means available to them, tooth and nail, legal or illegal, fair or foul.

The appeal and joy of the Honest Clear Thinking Philosophy is so great and so strong, the church has built enormous emotional walls around its empire of mental captives. To read a book written by a so-called Atheist or Free Thinker on the subject of philosophy or religion is a Sin in many of the churches. Why? Because belief hates the light of honesty and truth when it shines on them. It is claimed that a burning hell and excommunication awaits the Catholic who reads such a book as this and does not confess and repent. Lies, guilts and fears are scattered like land mines in the way of the Protestant who might come in contact with a book like this. The loss of salvation and its wonderful rewards are a constant threat and weapon against the Protestant who would read this book. That is blackmail religious style.

Only the very Courageous, the very Curious and the very Honest will ever take such a book as this in his hands and read it from cover to cover. (You should stop right here and pat yourself on the back.)

By and large, the Jewish people seem to be seeing themselves as more of an ethnic people than as a religious people. That is, they do not believe all that is written in their holy books. But even with this more liberal and learned approach there are still Jewish families who disown their own children if those children forsake the traditions of their religion and become Protestants or join some other religion. So, the walls are up around the Jewish people as well as around those of Christianity. It is interesting that by and large; the Jewish people have no special fear or judgment upon their own that become Atheists. Very interesting!

The Clear Thinking philosophy is the philosophy of honesty, justice and freedom. The religions can neither allow freedom, nor can they tolerate honest thinking. Justice is only for them. Every time a strong-willed Protestant has tried to disagree with his mother church, that mother church has killed, imprisoned or disowned him. When the strong-willed person leaves his home church, he goes to another Protestant church that believes like he does. If there is no such church available, he often starts one. That is how the Roman Catholic and Protestant churches started and that is how every single Protestant denomination, including the Baptist, got their start. The tyranny of the church is a terrible tragedy inflicted upon the gullible and weak minded, as well as upon those struggling for the fresh air of freedom, justice and honest logical thought.

Something has been gnawing at the captivity of the mind imposed by the religions over most of the twentieth century. That "something" is the gulf between the Claims of religion and the Facts of science and nature. Religion has twisted truth, bent the teachings of the Bible and tried its best to make their religion somewhat compatible to the new findings of science in all of its branches. Yet, there is no way to camouflage the errors, immoralities, unjustness, barbaric philosophy and the bigoted approach of the Bible toward the non-Christians, Honest Doubters and nonbeliever of the world.

Religion in the west has been dealt several defeats. The facts of science have done the most damage. Science caused a once totally superstitious people to throw off the political rule of the church and to build a civil government in its place. But the church has not given up trying to tell the civil government what to do. So we still have many unjust and immoral laws that favor the church and its leaders at the expense of the Doubters, Thinkers and other free men. It is good to know the church can no longer burn you at the stake, but they can still get you put in prison. They can take your money through government tax programs and use it for their schools and the spreading of their mind-altering propaganda. And they can keep you from buying certain goods on Sunday. Religion is still trying to crucify Clear Thinking on a cross of lies, half-truths and innuendoes. In addition, religion is still very good at censorship.

If they have their way through the Republican Party, they will soon classify Clear Thinking (Atheism) as subversive and be just like the old time religions that burned you at the stake. (Need I say again, Patriot Act?)

Clear Thinking is a here and now philosophy. If there is another life after this one, Honest Clear Thinking will still be the best philosophy there because it takes the present as it is, tries to understand it and tries to get the most good from it. On the other hand, most religious philosophies require that you give up a large portion of the here and now (to the church's own treasury) in order to gain a little "pie in the sky in the sweet bye and bye.” When the Clear Thinker gets there, he will likely be no more surprised than will the Christian. In any existence to come, the Clear Thinker will still use the same philosophy there, which he has used here. He will still have the same regard for truth and honesty that he has here. He will still honestly doubt the wild claims of others until he has enough facts to prove, or disprove those claims.

If the religious find themselves in another life after this one, will they continue to give up a large portion of their present in order to buy some unearned but elevated position in the still uncertain future? Will they continue to believe tall tales told by some self appointed authority? If a person doesn't get the most good he can out of this life, what makes him think he will be ready to get the most good out of another future life?

The Clear Thinking philosophy is to be used as one would use a tool. This philosophy is honesty in action. This philosophy is the Method of stripping the falsehoods away from all the claims that demand one's time, money and obedience. Just think of the advantage the Clear Thinker has over those who are so gullible that they believe in the false claims of religion, politics, superstition, government and the educational claims that are daily bombarding us. (This is not to mention the business, personal and product claims.)

Even better than what the Clear Thinking philosophy can do for us adults, think what advantage your children and grandchildren will have when they are taught to rightly divide truth from falsehood. Life is too short to waste it in fear, false guilt, superstition and doing what others wish us to do. The Clear Thinking philosophy is freedom in action. We are free to make decisions with our lives, our time, our money and our minds. We reject any and all of those (so called) philosophers and teachers who would make us mental or physical slaves to someone or to something.

THE PURPOSE OF THE CLEAR THINKING PHILOSOPHY IS TO SET MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN FREE FROM THE TYRANNIES OF SUPERSTITION AND GOVERNMENT THAT TRY TO CONTROL THEIR THINKING AND THEIR ACTIONS.

Even though I have denied Clear Thinking has any beliefs or doctrines, I now recant. It does have one belief. That belief is that mankind is capable of having and enjoying peace, justice and freedom. There is no proof of this belief. Mankind's history can be used as a telling blow against this belief. But like a pit bull with a death grip on a bone, I still believe mankind is capable of having knowledge, wisdom, freedom and peace. I believe he is capable of thinking. I believe he is capable of being honest. I believe he is capable of throwing out dictatorial governments, religions and deceptive businesses onto the garbage dump of history. Even if he can't do it as a group, maybe many can do it individually. If I can do it, anyone can!

I have written this book with that one bit of faith on the folds of my mind. It Can happen, if not in my generation, then maybe in my great grandchildren's generation. Mankind must wake up out of his blind beliefs before he destroys himself and this planet. When will people open their eyes and understand? Their salvation resides in their collective heads!

Who will start this desperately needed revolution in the minds of mankind? Who is brave enough? Who is strong enough? Who loves this earth and its people enough? Who loves freedom enough? Who loves Justice enough? Who is willing to pay the price? Who is willing to see that important people in this country and world have an opportunity to read such a book as this, which I have called HONEST MAN'S PHILOSOPHY?

Clear Thinking needs YOU!

BUT,

IT DOESN’T NEED YOU

NEARLY AS MUCH AS YOU NEED CLEAR THINKING!
