All faculty have private offices equipped with telecommunications connections. Secretarial, administrative, and financial support is provided by the Department's administrative staff. Faculty and graduate students have full access to the Statistics Research Computing and Information System (SRCIS) and the university-wide Unity system. These two systems provide the backbone for research and communication for the Department. Both systems are UNIX/NIS/NFS/AFS based. Within the Department, access is available to over 50 client workstations and over 50 personal computers; SRCIS has general lab areas for graduate student use. These systems offer state of the art electronic mail and World Wide Web access, regular backups of client data, and maintenance of site-licensed applications such as SAS, SPLUS, Matlab, and GAUSS, as well as high-level programming languages, \LaTeX\, and WordPerfect. All this is tied together through a high speed ethernet topology, giving users immediate and full access to all systems available throughout the campus. The NCSU Library consists of the main D.H. Hill Library and five branch libraries containing more than 1.4 million volumes of books and bound journals and in excess of 4 million federal documents, and regularly receives over 18,000 serials. The large holdings at nearby Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, including two major medical and health sciences libraries, are readily accessible to NCSU researchers. The Department of Statistics also maintains a library of its own that provides easy access to common journals and reference materials. The Department of Statistics is unique among Statistics departments in that it houses respected graduate programs in Biomathematics and Statistical Genetics, and will also house the newly created Graduate Program in Bioinformatics. \newpage \setcounter{page}{11} \begin{flushleft} \begin{large} {\bf RESEARCH PLAN} \end{large} \end{flushleft} \section{SPECIFIC AIMS} \section{BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE} \section{PRELIMINARY STUDIES} \section{RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS} \section{HUMAN SUBJECTS} N/A \section{VERTEBRATE ANIMALS} N/A \newpage \section{LITERATURE CITED} \section{CONSORTIUM/CONTRACTUAL ARRANGEMENTS} N/A \section{CONSULTANTS/COLLABORATORS} N/A \end{document} % Ray Carroll uses the following: %\documentstyle[11pt]{article} %\input psfig.tex %\input verbtext.sty %\textheight=9.7in %\textwidth=7.0in %\textwidth=7.2in %\topmargin=-64pt %\oddsidemargin=-25pt %\oddsidemargin=-28pt
