Brian Paul, who is studying with Dr. Richard Gourse, has been awarded
the 2003 William H. Peterson Predoctoral Fellowship in Bacteriology.
Brian entered the PhD program after spending four years at the
the Gourse lab, he is studying the effect of the DksA protein in
regulation of ribosomal RNA expression in Escherichia coli. Brian has
purified an active form of DksA and has evidence that the protein
works directly on RNAP-rRNA promoter complexes in vitro. He is also
studying the effect of dksA mutants in vivo.
