Electron microscope picture of the Lambda bacteriophage.
On the left is an icosahedral head and extending to the
right is a ribbed tail that comes a point in the last 6
ribs. A man sits at a table holding a knife and fork and
staring puzzled and angrily at a plate that has a lambda
phage on it.

Happy Thanksgiving! No lambda lunch this week, lots going on next
week.

WALS Nominations for 2016-2017 are open until Dec. 31. Please send
your suggestions to me by Dec. 11th; I'll send out a ballot the
following week so we have some time to submit the nominations after
voting. Information:

"Please help keep this series relevant with your careful selection of
speakers that reflects the diversity of NIH's scientific research and
the community's desire for constant learning and discovery. To bring
the best and brightest speakers to NIH, the selection committee seeks
nominees who (a) engage audiences with information and presentation
style, (b) lead cutting-edge research projects, and (c) appeal to
diverse groups of NIH researchers.

We prefer nominees who haven't delivered a WALS talk in the last five
years. A list of past WALS speakers (excluding current season) is
at [1]https://oir.nih.gov/wals/past-lecture-seasons-speakers. To see a
list of the current season's WALS speakers,
visit [2]https://oir.nih.gov/wals."

contact the person whose name is in parentheses. If you're at NIH you
can join the mailing list in either of the following ways. (1) Send
the message "SUBSCRIBE LAMBDA_LUNCH-L 'your name'" from the computer
where you usually receive mail to
[[5]mailto:LISTSERV@LIST.NIH.GOV][6]LISTSERV@LIST.NIH.GOV. Replace
'your name' by your first and last names; or (2) go to
[7]http://list.nih.gov/, browse the lists to find Lambda_Lunch-L, and
follow the instructions. If you're not at NIH, contact
