The Millennium According To ...

Most people would say that the millennium transition could be described as:

Conventional: 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, ...

But recently it has been realized that many computers (other than Macintoshes!) use only two digits for the year and so count like this:

Computer With A Millennium Bug: 1998, 1999, 1900, 1901, 1902, ...

This has caused great consternation and a cottage industry has arisen to handle the "Year 2000" problem (1, 2).

But society has many kinds of people, some of whom have other ideas about what will happen:

Dooms day sayer: 1998, 1999, 2000.

Linguist: 1998, 1999, 2000, 2000a, 2000b, ...

Zeno of Elea: 1998, 1999, 1999.9, 1999.99, 1999.999, 1999.9999, ...

Chaos Theorist: 2008, 2002, 1992, 1997, 1992, 8, -57 ...

Historian: 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998, ...

True Believer: 1998, 1999, 2000, 1, 2, 3, ...

Molecular Biologist: 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003,...

Millennium Party Goer On Drugs: 1998, 1999, 2000, 2000, 2000, ...

Computer Scientist: 11111001110, 11111001111, 11111010000, 11111010001, 11111010010, ...

Futurist: 1998, 1999, 2000, 20000, 200000, ...

Zen Buddist: 1998
