Mid-Maryland Boys 1999-2000 Weekly Wrap-ups

WINDSOR KNOLLS TOPS BOONSBORO - 1/28/00

Brandon Ponstein and Ryan Brandenburg had 10 points each to lead Windsor Knolls' jayvees past Boonsboro 34-21. The varsity game was not reported.

Windsor Knolls varsity struggled to defeat Boonsboro 40-26. A strong fourth quarter for the Hawks, led by Pat Smith's seven points closed out the victory. Leading scorer for the Hawks was Brian Mohns with 11 points. For Boonsboro, Josh Lum was high man with 10 points.

BALLENGER TAKES TWO FROM CATOCTIN - 1/27/00

Chad Warren had 14 points and Jawann Green added nine as Ballenger Creek's varsity trimmed Catoctin 39-25. Dennis Hill had a game-high 17 for the Cougars.

Ballenger also defeated Catoctin in the jayvee game 38-20. The Bulldogs were led by Corey Rhodes with 14 markers and Matt Powell with eight. Catoctin was led by Steven Palmer with six points.

STREAKING MONOCACY VARSITY TAKES OVER CMC LEAD - 1/23/00

Monocacy's varsity won its ninth straight and moved ahead of Linganore in the CMC varsity raced with a 59-42 triumph over Brunswick. Greg Seldon went on a rampage, hitting 8-of-12 from the field and 7-for-7 from the foul line for 23 points while Danny Pierson added 13 points and 10 boards for the winners. Chad Baker led the Railroaders with 12 points.

The Mustangs also won the jayvee game, 44-26, to go to 10-0. John Brand led Monocacy with nine points while Brunswick's Billy Bernard was game-high scorer with 14 points.

After winning it's first nine straight, Linganore's varsity suffered it's second varsity loss in the last three outings, 48-34 to Windsor Knolls. The Hawks held Linganore to 16 points through three quarters and nailed down the victory by converting 20 of 24 foul shots in the final quarter. Windsor Knolls was led by Brian Mohns with 15 points and Scott Glotfelty with 12 (10 in the fourth period). The Lancers put three players in double figures - Leif Jackson with 11, Jon Moravec and Zach Hayes with 10 each.

The Hawks also took the opener 43-31 as Ryan Brandenburg erupted for 16 points. Jon Sweadner had 13 points and Mark Trammell 10 in a losing cause.

Luther Weedon knocked down 27 points and Andre Washington added 12 as West Frederick's jayvees dumped Walkersville 55-33 to extend it's unbeaten streak to 12-0. Chris Hannigan led the Lions with 14 points.

The varsity Cadets made it a sweep, 58-40, breaking away from a 24-24 tie at the half. Eric Lenz had 21 points, Colby Jackson 13, and Ryan Watts 11 for the Cadets while Dave Berry had 11 points and Wes Anderson 10 for Walkersville.

Poolesville pulled off a jayvee upset, defeating MVAL leading Middletown 41-32. Adam Powell was the game high-scorer with 12 points for the Indians. Stephen Smith chipped in 10 points and five steals. Middletown was led by Adam Rhoades with eight points.

Middletown took the nightcap 51-32. Gary Ward from Poolesville and Paul Stanzione of Middletown led their respective teams with 16 points each. Jeff Willis added 12 points for the Knights.

St. John's came back from a nine-point first-half deficit to record a 53-39 varsity win over Catoctin. PJ Dorsey led the comeback by recording all of his game-high 17 points in the second half. Jerod Lyons added 14 points for the winners. Dennis Hill led the Cougars with 17 markers.

Jair Brady had 25 points to lead St. John's jayvee to a 43-37 win. Luke Bumgardner had 12 points for the Cougars.

CATOCTIN, BALLENGER SHAKE UP STANDINGS - 1/22/00

Catoctin's varsity broke into the win column at the expense of Brunswick, 37-36. Dennis Hill sank a three-pointer with six seconds left to cap a 19-5 Cougar run in the final period. Hill led Catoctin with 13 points while Zach Topper and Kenneth Hinchcliffe each had eight. Brunswick was led by Phil Whims' game-high 14 points.

Brunswick won the jayvee game 42-32, after trailing at halftime 19-16. Leading the way for the 'Roaders were Billy Bernard and R.J. Backover with 18 points each. For Catoctin, Steven Palmer had a season-high 10 points.

Ballenger Creek took a 40-39 varsity decision from Windsor Knolls in a game where the lead changed hands many times. Chad Warren had 13 points to lead the winners. Brian Mohns had 12 for the Hawks.

Brandon Ponstein had an outstanding all-around game, controlling the boards and leading all scores with 14 points in leading the Hawks to a 34-21 jayvee victory. Dan Orrision keyed the defense, which held BC scoreless in the third quarter to break open a tight game. The Bulldogs were led by Corey Rhodes with nine points.

West Frederick erased a 30-21 varsity halftime deficit with a 42-17 blitz in the second half to take a 63-47 win against St. John's. Colby Jackson and Eric Lenz poured in 24 points each for the Cadets while Jerod Lyons topped the Vikings with 17 points.

Luther Weedon had 26 points to lead the Cadets to a 45-29 jayvee win, their 11th without a loss. Steven Keser led St. John's with five points.

Monocacy's jayvees also remained unbeaten and went to 9-0 with a 39-33 win over Walkersville. Anthony Blackwood had 12 points and John Truxillo 10 points to pace Monocacy. Chris Hannigan had 10 points and Brandon Geppert nine for the Lions.

The Mustangs won their eighth straight varsity game 51-19 in the nightcap, outscoring Walkersville 26-5. Colin Doll had 12 points and Garret Hanselman added nine to lead 10 Monocacy scorers. Dave Berry and Wes Anderson each contributed six points for Walkersville.

Linganore swept Boonsboro, taking the jayvee game 38-27 and the varsity contest 50-33. Paul Rhoads led the jayvee win with seven points while Zach Hayes' 13 paced the Lancers' varsity. For Boonsboro, Jeremiah Mills had nine for the jayvees and Tim Kellinger 11 for the varsity.

LINGANORE VARSITY, WALKERSVILLE JAYVEES HOLD ON - 1/19/00

Linganore's varsity won it's 10th game in 11 League starts with a 51-44 triumph over Walkersville. Zach Hayes had 18 points and Leif Jackson added 12 for the winners while the Lions also had two player in twin digits - Chris Beirman with 17 points and Wes Anderson with 14.

Walkersville won a low-scoring jayvee game 32-24 behind Chris Hannigan's 10 point effort. Isaah Brightful paced the Lancers with six points.

MONOCACY, MIDDLETOWN CONTINUE ON A ROLL - 1/17/00

Monocacy won it's eighth jayvee game without a loss, trimming Poolesville 47-35. Mike Cholet had 13 points to lead the winners while Anthony Blackwood added 12 and Jonathon Phillips had 10. The Indians had Corey Christman, Freddie Leighton, and Adam Powell each with eight points.

The Mustangs' varsity won their seventh in a row, 62-29. Greg Seldon has 13 points and Colin Doll 12 to lead nine Monocacy scorers. Brandon Holden had nine to lead Poolesville.

John Keimig led 10 Middletown scorers with 13 points as the Knights' varsity defeated Catoctin 36-26. Dennis Hill had an outstanding 17-point effort for the Cougars.

Middletown also took the jayvee game 28-12 with Jonathon Hall netting eight points while Jake Clabaugh had six in a losing cause.

KEIMIG, WARD LEAD TEAMS TO UPSET WINS - 1/16/00

John Keimig erupted for 24 points as Middletown's varsity avenged an earlier 50-24 loss and handed Linganore it's first loss of the season by a 49-38 count. John Stanzione hauled down 12 rebounds for the winners.

Middletown won the jayvee game 56-50 in overtime with Jonathon Hall accounting for 19 points and Mike Holda 15. Jeff Herrod paced the Lancers with 12 markers while Jon Sweadner contributed 12.

Poolesville's Gary Ward had the most productive day of any player in the League this year with 34 points as the Indians defeated Walkersville 65-60 in a shootout. Brendan Holden added 12 points for the winners while Walkersville was led by Wes Anderson with 27 points and Dave Berry with 15.

The Indians also won the jayvee game 44-39. Poolesville was led by Adam Powell with 13 points and Stephen Smith with 12 points. Corey Christman worked the boards for eight big points while Freddie Leighton iced the game with four foul shots in the waning seconds of the game. Walkersville was led by Tim Abercrombie with 16 points.

Windsor Knolls' varsity bounced back from a tough Saturday loss to defeat Boonsboro 57-33. The Hawks jumped off to a 22-6 lead in the first quarter. They were led in scoring by Brian Mohns, Scott Glotfelty, and Jon Myers with 12 points each. Justin Baylor led the Warriors with eight points.

The Hawks got an outstanding defensive effort from James Pierce to go along with his nine points in taking the jayvee game 35-24. Ryan Brandenburg led WK with 11 points. Derrick Gallagher was high scorer for Boonsboro with nine points.

Jered Lyons had 19 points and T.J. Van Hook 10 as St. John's defeated Brunswick's varity 43-30. Derek Dykes led the Railroaders with seven points. St. John's also won the jayvee game, 51-19.

CMC TRIO SWEEP; MIDDLETOWN EXTENDS MVAL LEAD - 1/15/00

West Frederick got 17 points from Luther Weedon in pushing it's unbeaten jayvee streak to 10 games with a 50-24 victory over Windsor Knolls. Brandon Ponstein had eight points for the Hawks.

The Cadets used a 13-4 second-quarter run to pull off a mild varsity upset 39-30. Colby Jackson netted 19 points while Eric Lenz added 15. D.J. McGee paced Windsor Knolls with 10 markers.

Monocacy's jayvees also remained undefeated with a 44-31 win over Catoctin. Anthony Blackwood had 16 points for Monocacy and Dan Duranko tossed in 16 for Catoctin.

The Mustang's used a 24-5 blitz in the second quarter to win their sixth varsity game in a row, 58-35. Monocacy had 11 players in the scoring column, led by Gladimir Elysee with 12 and Danny Pierson with 11. Catoctin's Dennis Hill led all scorers with 13 and Jason Johnson added 10.

Linganore went to 8-1 in jayvee play with a 40-34 win over Brunswick. Jon Sweadner led the winners with seven points and Andrew Lindberg added six. R.J. Backover topped the Railroaders with 12 points.

The Lancers' varsity won it's ninth League game without a loss, 47-24. All 12 players scored for the winners while Chad Baker had six to pace Brunswick.

Middletown extended it's MVAL division leads with a pair of 10-point wins over Boonsboro. The jayvee game was 39-29 with Jonathon Hall and Joseph Keimig leading the way with 11 and nine points, respectively. Jimmy Griffin led the Warriors with eight points.

John Keimig exploded for 20 points to direct the Knights' 41-31 varsity win. Boonsboro was led by Justin Baylor's eight points.

BALLENGER TAKES PAIR FROM BOONSBORO - 1/13/00

Ballenger Creek's jayvees defeated Boonsboro 43-15 as Corey Rhodes had 10 points. Tyrell Cartnail and Kenny Houck each added six. Jimmy Griffin led Boonsboro with nine markers.

Bradley Wiley (8 points) and Robbie Davis (7 points) led a balanced Ballenger varsity attack as they completed the sweep with a 40-19 win. Tim Kellinger had seven points to pace the Warriors.

LINGANORE SWEEPS; WINDSOR KNOLLS, WALKERSVILLE SPLIT - 1/12/00

Linganore outscored St. John's varsity 43-16 over the final three quarters to register a 54-26 win, their eight of the season without a loss. The Lancers were led by Leif Jackson and Eamon O'Shea with eight points each while PJ Dorsey and Andre Stanton had six apiece for St. John's.

Trailing 27-17 after three quarters, Linganore's jayvees rallied for a 35-31 win in the opener. Andrew Lindberg led the winners with 10 points while the Vikings had seven players on the scorecard.

Walkersville nipped Windsor Knolls in jayvee action 33-30 behind the 12-point effort of Brandon Geppert. Ryan Brandenburg had 11 points in a losing cause. The Hawks also won the varsity game 34-17. No other information was provided.

RICH GET RICHER IN CMC; MIDDLETOWN WINS KEY MVAL TILT - 1/09/00

Zach Hayes knocked down 20 points as Linganore handled Ballenger Creek 56-35 for it's seventh win of the varsity season without a loss. Chad Warren had 12 points in a losing cause.

Linganore also won the jayvee game 38-27 after trailing at the half, 17-12. Isaah Brightful and Jon Sweadner had 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Lancers.

Luther Weedon led a trio of West Frederick players in double figures as the Cadets extended their jayvee unbeaten streak with a 53-34 win over Poolesville. Weedon had 13 points while Andre Washington and Quenton Beard had 12 apiece. Greg Brooks led Poolesville with 10 points.

West Frederick came back from a 22-16 halftime deficit to nip a spirited Poolesville varsity 50-43. The Cadets' Colby Jackson and Indians' Gary Ward put on a scoring show to lead their teams with 22 and 23 points, respectively.

Anthony Blackwood had 13 points while teammates Mike Cholet and Jonathon Phillips contributed 12 each as Monocacy's jayvees remained undefeated with a 41-35 triumph over St. John's. Steven Keser led seven Vikings' scorers with 10 points.

St. John's jumped to a surprising 10-3 lead in the varsity game, but Monocacy responded with a 19-0 run and went on to a 45-30 decision. Danny Pierson led a balanced Monocacy attack with 10 points. Jered Lyons posted eight for the Vikings.

Middletown took control of the MVAL varsity race with a 41-30 win over Walkersville. John Keimig had 17 points and Jeff Willis added 10 while Paul Stanzone hauled in 13 rebounds for the winners. Wes Anderson led Walkersville with nine points.

The Knights also took the jayvee game 37-26 with Zachary Miss leading a balanced scoring attack with 10 points. Brandon Geppert led the Lions with eight points.

Brunswick rallied from a 22-18 halftime deficit to notch it's first jayvee win of the season against Boonsboro 45-36. R.J. Backover paced the winners with 14 points, 11 in the second half, while Billy Bernard added 13. Jimmy Griffin's 11 points led the Warriors.

A 19-8 run in the third quarter allowed the varsity Railroaders to make it a sweep, 49-35. Derek Dykes netted 11 points for Brunswick while Tim Kellinger had another double figure night for the Warriors with 10 points.

LANCER VARSITY, MUSTANG JAYVEES REMAIN UNBEATEN - 1/08/00

Linganore overwhelmed Catoctin 68-29 to remain unbeaten in varsity league play. Eamon O'Shea paced the 6-0 Jr. Lancers with 14 points, eight in the second quarter alone, and Jeffrey Rollins added 10 points. Dennis Hill led Catoctin with 11.

The Lancer jayvees jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead and went on to down Catoctin 41-29. Josh Young lead 10 Lancer scores with eight points. For Catoctin, Danny Duranko was good for 11 points.

Monocacy swept Ballenger Creek with the jayvees taking a 39-33 decision and the varsity winning 46-26. Anthony Blackwood had 14 points for the 4-0 Mustang jayvees while Scott Fitzgerald and Corey Rhodes had eight points each for BC.

In the nightcap, Monocacy took control early in a 12-4 first quarter outburst and handily. Monocacy had seven players crack the scoring, assist and steal columns; 11 registered rebounds; and four players rejected shots. Robert Davis had seven points for Ballenger Creek.

West Frederick withstood an upset bid by Boonsboro's varsity, claiming a 51-41 win. Eric Lenz had 23 points for the winners while Tim Kellinger and Justin Baylor had 13 and 11, respectively, for the Warriors.

The Cadets also won the jayvee game with Luther Weedon and Andre Washington leading a balanced scoring effort with seven points apiece.

Poolesville's jayvees held Walkersville scoreless throughout the fourth quarter and overtime to take a 45-36 come-from-behind win. Freddy Leighton had 11 of his team-high 15 points in the second half and added seven rebounds for the Indians. Adam Powell added 12 points and Marcus Brooks 11 for the winners. Chris Hannigan's 17 points led the Lions.

Walkersville won a low-scoring varsity game 28-20 behind Wes Anderson's 14 points. Poolesville, which led 15-14 after three quarters, got nine points from Gary Ward.

Windsor Knolls' jayvees got balanced scoring, led by Brandon Ponstien with 13 points, in defeating Brunswick 42-22. The Railroaders were paced by Billy Benard with six points. The Hawks won the varsity game 37-29 behind 13 points from Brian Mohns. Derek Dykes had seven to lead Brunswick.

Neither game of the West Frederick-Boonsboro doubleheader were reported.

BALLENGER VARSITY; WALKERSVILLE JAYVEES REGAIN FORM - 1/06/00

Ballenger Creek bounced back from it's first regular-season varsity loss in more than a year to shutdown Walkersville 36-26. Bradley Wiley paced the winners with 13 points while Chris Bierman and Wes Anderson had eight apiece for the Lions.

Walkersville took the opener in a closer contest 47-41. Tim Abercrombie and Brandon Geppert combined for 36 points for Lions with 19 and 17, respectively. Corey Rhodes had 15 points and Matt Powell nine for Ballenger.

MONOCACY SWEEPS WALKERSVILLE; WK JAYVEE WINS - 1/05/00

Ten players scored, including four with seven points apiece - Greg Seldon, Zach Karmiol, Andrew Martin, and Colin Doll - as Monocacy's varsity routed Walkersville 54-20. Monocacy also won the jayvee game 33-30 to remain unbeaten at 4-0. Anthony Blackwood had 17 points for the winners while Tim Abercrombie had 10 to lead the Lions.

Windsor Knolls had three players with 11 points apiece as they defeated Catoctin, 49-36 . Ryan Brandenburg, Mike Timm, and Brandon Ponstein did the Hawks' damage while Catoctin's Luke Burgardner was game-high scorer with 14 points.

The varsity game, for a second straight time, went unreported by Windsor Knolls.

MIDDLETOWN HALTS BC STREAK; LINGANORE, WF STAY UNBEATEN - 1/02/00

Middletown snapped Ballenger Creek's regular season varsity win streak at 27 games with a 42-37 come-from-behind win. The Knights trailed by seven points entering the fourth quarter, but outscored BC 16-4 to claim the victory. Paul Stanzone had 15 points to spark the winners while Allan Daniels had 11 points and Robert Davis 10 for Ballenger.

The Knights also won their fourth jayvee game in five outings with a 35-25 triumph. Mike Holter led the winners with 14 points and Corey Rhodes had 11 to pace BC.

Linganore's varsity moved to 5-0 and took over sole possession of the CMC division lead with a 49-14 win over Boonsboro. Eamon O'Shea led a balanced Lancer attack with 11 points while Kyle Davis led the Warriors' effort with five. Linganore also won the jayvee game 41-14 with C.J. Hardesty netting eight points while Jeremiah Mills had five for Boonsboro.

Luther Weedon's 13 point effort led West Frederick's jayvees to its seventh win without a loss, a 43-14 verdict over Brunswick. R.J. Backover had six points for the Railroaders. The Cadets also won the varsity game by a 50-36 margin with Colby Jackson and Eric Lenz netting 16 and 11 points, respectively. Derek Dykes had 13 points to pace Brunswick.

St. John's raced to a 16-0 start and cruised to a 47-33 varsity win over Poolesville. Jerod Lyons had 18 points to lead the Vikings while Gary Ward's 13 paced Poolesville.

The Vikings jayvees turned a solid defensive effort into a 49-41 win in the opener. Trailing 20-17 at the half, St. John's went on a 19-5 tear in the third quarter to put the game away. Ben Hose had 11 points, Justin Moser and Steven Keser eight each for the winners while Poolesville placed two players in double digits - Gregory Brooks with 14 points and Adam Powell with 11.

MONOCACY SWEEPS BRUNSWICK IN LAST GAMES OF 1999 - 12/31/99

Monocacy's jayvees went to 3-0 with a 38-23 win over Brunswick. Anthony Blackwood had 13 points to lead Monocacy while Billy Bernard and R.J. Backover each had six points for Brunswick.

Danny Pierson had 13 points and Gladimir Elysee 10 in Monocacy's 48-20 varsity win. Drew Gaeng contributed six assists for the winners. Phil Whims and Chad Baker each had 5 for the Railroaders.

KNIGHTS WIN THRILLER; BRUNSWICK, CATOCTIN SPLIT MVAL TWINBILL - 12/19/99

Bryan Bello hit a short jump shot with less than one second left in the game to give Middletown a thrilling 39-38 jayvee win over Windsor Knolls. The game tied 17-17 at halftime and remained close the entire contest. Middletown was led by Joe Keimig and Zach Miss with 11 points and Jonathan Hall with 10. WK had three players with 10 each - Ryan Brandenburg, Brandon Ponstein and Mike Timm.

Windsor Knolls won the varsity game 52-35. Jeff Willis had eight points and John Keimig seven for the Knights.

Brunswick picked up it's first varsity win of the year with a 29-20 triumph over Catoctin. Derek Dykes and Phil Whims had seven points apiece for the winners while Chris Wetzel led the Cougars with a game-high eight points.

Luke Bumgardner had 15 points to lead Catoctin to a 37-30 win in the jayvee game. Brian Keeny and R.J. Backover had 14 and 10 points, respectively, for the Railroaders.

LINGANORE, WF SPLIT; ST. JOHN'S SWEEPS CATOCTIN - 12/18/99

Linganore continued unbeaten in varsity play, making a 33-21 halftime lead stand up in a 54-49 win over West Frederick. The Lancers had three players in twin digits - Leif Jackson with 16, Zach Hayes 15, and Eamon O'Shea 12. Frederick was led by Eric Lenz with 17 points and Ben Brenneman added 15.

West Frederick went to 6-0 in jayvee play with a 58-36 win over previously-unbeaten Linganore. The Cadets raced to a 37-15 halftime lead and coasted behind the double figure efforts of Andre Washington (14 points), Corey Dorsey (12), and Quenton Beard (12). Isiah Brightful had eight points for Linganore.

St. John's prevailed 51-49 at Catoctin in varsity action. Eddie Hutchins paced St. John's with 13 points. Andrew Stanton also had 12 points and Gerald Dorsey 10 for the winners. Catoctin had its best effort of the season with Dennis Hill leading the way for the Cougars with 21 points while Chris Whetzel contributed 10 points.

The Vikings broke open the jayvee game by scoring 19 fourth-quarter points, aided by going 9-for-10 from the foul line. The final was 50-39. Justin Harrison was the leading scorer with 12 points for the winners while Jair Brady chipped in with 10. For Catoctin, Ian Cuddahee lead the way with 10 markers.

BC EXTENDS STREAK; WF BEATS WALKERSVILLE AT THE BUZZER - 12/16/99

Ballenger Creek won #27 in a row in varsity play and went to 5-0 on the season with a 54-34 win over St. John's. Bradley Wiley and Chad Warren led a balanced BC attack with 10 points each while Jerod Lyons had nine points to lead the Vikings.

The jayvee tied at the half at 18 and at the end of the three quarters at 26 before Ballenger claimed it's first home win of the year, 34-29. Ballenger was led by Corey Rhodes with 14 points. Steve Keser had eight for St. John's.

Dallas Pryor scored on a driving layup with just one second left as West Frederick took a 45-43 varsity thriller from Walkersville. Eric Lentz had 22 points and Colby Jackson 14 for the Cadets. The Lions, who led 41-37 with two minutes left, got 12 points from Wes Anderson and 10 from Chris Bierman.

The Cadets' jayvees went to 5-0 on the year with a 42-31 triumph. Luther Weedon had a game-high 18 points for the winners and Alex Edgley had ten in a losing cause.

MIDDLETOWN TAKES KEY MVAL TWINBILL FROM ST. JOHN'S - 12/13/99

Middletown's varsity claimed a 37-27 win, jumping out to a 12-4 first quarter lead. St. John's cut it to 26-22 after three quarters, but could get no closer. A huge edge on the boards at both ends for the Knights was a decisive factor in the game. John Keimig tallied 14 points for the Knights, Jered Lyons had 14 for the Vikings.

Middletown had three players in double figures in taking the jayvee game 51-42. Jonathan Hall had 13, Joe Keimig 12 and Zach Miss had 10 for the winners. St. John's had eight players in the scoring column with Jair Brady and Steven Keser leading the way with 12 and nine points, respectively.

CMC DIVISION TEAMS GO 10-0 - 12/12/99

Zach Hayes had a game-high 17 points while Jon Moravec and Greg Mason keyed an outstanding defense effort as Linganore defeated Middletown in varsity action, 50-26. Middletown was led By Jon Keimig with 10. Linganore won the jayvee game 52-40 as Jon Sweadner had 17 points and Isiah Brightful 11. Joe Keimig led the Knights with 14 points.

Ballenger Creek had little trouble running it's varsity record to 4-0 and extending it's regular season win streak to 26 in taking a 37-14 decision over Catoctin. Chad Warren had 14 points and nine rebounds to pace the winners while Dennis Hill led the Cougars with six points. Ballenger/s jayvees raced to a 20-5 halftime lead en route to a 34-16 win. Cory Rhodes lead BC with 14 points.

Ryan Watts and Eric Lenz each had 14 points to lead West Frederick's varsity to a 52-40 win over Poolesville. The Cadets raced to an early 17-4 lead. The Cadet jayvees had three players in double figures - Luther Weedon 15, Corey Dorsey, 11, and Quenton Beard 12 - as the defeated Poolesville 65-34. Adam Powell netted 14 points for the Indians.

Windsor Knolls' jayvees got 14 points from Ryan Brandenburg and 11 from Brandon Ponstein in defeating St. John's 43-24. Jair Brady led the Vikings' effort with nine points. The Hawks trailed the varsity game 27-25 after three quarters, but Brian Mohns erupted for 12 of his 22 points in the fourth to pace a 52-40 victory. Jered Lyons had 12 points and Gerald Dorsey 11 for the Vikings.

Danny Pearson had 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead Monocacy to a 50-41 varsity win over Boonsboro. Carl Wolf added 10 points for the winners while Tim Kellinger had 16 for the Warriors. Monocacy also won the jayvee game, 41-24, with Anthony Blackwood's 14 points leading the way. Justin Short and Derek Crist led Boonsboro with eight points each.

WK MASTERS MONOCACY; LINGANORE, WEST FREDERICK SWEEP - 12/11/99

Windor Knolls used a 22-5 blitz in the final quarter to spoil the regular season opener for the Monocacy varsity, 48-37. The Hawks' Brian Mohns had 22 of his game-high 26 points in the second half. Monocacy was led by Drew Gaeng with 13 points, Danny Pierson with 11 and Colin Doll 10.

Anthony Blackwood led the Monocacy jayvees to a 44-34 win with 21 points.

Linganore handed the Poolesville jayvees their first loss of the season after three wins, 40-28. Poolesville's Adam Powell was the game-high scorer with 15 points. Linganore put 11 players in the scoring column with Jose Young leading the way with seven points and Isaih Brightful adding six.

Linganore made it a sweep in the varsity game, 67-47. Gary Ward was game high-scorer for Poolesville with 20 points and Brendan Holden added 13. Linganore was led by Zach Hayes with 13 points and Eamon O'Shea with 10 as they put 10 players in the scoring column.

Eric Lentz and Ryan Watts had 13 and 10 points, respectively, to lead West Frederick to a 51-25 varsity win over Boonsboro. The Cadets raced to an 11-2 lead in the first period and never looked back.

The Cadets got 13 points from Arun Ali and 12 from Mike Sewell in a 48-14 jayvee triumph. Jeramiah Mills led the Warriors with five points.

BALLENGER RUNS VARSITY STREAK TO 25 - 12/09/99

Ballenger Creek won it's 25th consecutive regular season game over the last two seasons, spoiling Windsor Knolls' season debut with a 36-28 victory. Robbie Davis had nine points and Steve Sherman eight rebounds to pace the winners while D.J. McGee had eight points in a losing cause.

The Hawks stretched a 14-12 halftime lead with good free-throw shooting down the stretch to beat Ballenger Creek's jayvees 28-20. Steve Anderson led the Hawks with 13 points and Corey Rhodes had 10 for Ballenger.

WALKERSVILLE SWEEPS BOONSBORO IN OPENERS - 12/08/99

Walkersville edged Boonsboro 31-27 in varsity action as Wes Anderson had a team-high 10 points. Tim Kellinger and Kyle Davis had 13 and 10 points, respectively, for Boonsboro.

The Lions got eight points each from Alex Edgley, Brandon Geppert, and Robert Fadeley in taking a 43-15 decision from Boonsboro. Jimmy Griffin paced the Warriors with six points.

POOLESVILLE, LINGANORE, MIDDLETOWN, WF EARN SWEEPS - 12/05/99

Brendan Holden had 23 points and Gary Ward added 14 as Poolesville defeated Brunswick 51-37 in varsity action. The Indians raced to a 15-5 lead after one quarter and coasted from there. Jason Anderson had 11 points for the Railroaders.

Poolesville won a 49-42 decision in the jayvee game as Ryan Lawrence had 15 points and Steven Smith added 13. Billy Bernard had a team-high 16 for Brunswick.

Linganore opened it's League season with a sweep of Catoctin. The Jr. Lancers won the varsity game 66-26 as Jeff Rollins and Mike Lucian had 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the winners. Jon Sweader had 13 points to pace a 44-11 jayvee win.

Middletown doubled up Boonsboro, taking the jayvee game 46-22 and the varsity matchup 39-27. Joe Keimig had 17 points and Zachary Miss added 10 in the opener while Derek Crist had five for the Warriors. The Knights had three players in double figures in the varsity win - John Keimig with 14, Tyler Lushbaugh 11, and Paul Stanzione 10. Tim Kellinger paced Boonsboro with 12 points.

West Frederick won their varsity game with St. John's 38-34 as Eric Lenz had 12 points for the winners and Jered Lyons 18 for the Vikings. St. John's led 32-30 with about 2:00 remaining, but Colbey Jackson hit three straight buckets to give West Frederick the advantage which they never relinquished. WF won the jayvee game 48-30.

BALLENGER VARSITY, POOLESVILLE JAYVEES GO TO 2-0 - 12/04/99

Ballenger Creek, 22-0 in regular season varsity play a year ago, won it's second of the young season without a loss, 38-29, over West Frederick. Bradley Wiley had 14 points and Chad Warren chipped in with 13 for the winners, who came back from a 17-15 halftime deficit.

Luther Weedon's 16 points paced the Cadets to a 40-15 win in the jayvee contest. Corey Rhoades had six in a losing cause.

Poolesville rode a 47-34 win over St. John's to a 2-0 jayvee start. St. John's gained the split in the nightcap with a 43-33 varsity win.

Boonsboro defeated Catoctin 40-24 in it's varsity opener. Kyle Davis led the winners with 11 points while Dennis Hill with led the Cougars with eight points. Catoctin won the jayvee contest, 29-28 as Danny Duranko had 12 points. Derrick Thompson hit a key free throw with 10 seconds left to seal the win.

BALLENGER, POOLESVILLE SPLIT SEASON-OPENERS - 12/02/99

Poolesville won the jayvee game 29-19, but Ballenger Creek came back to take the varsity contest 47-34 as the League kicked off it's 29th season.

Adam Powell had 14 points to lead the Indians to the jayvee win while Matt Powell paced BC with eight. The Ballenger varsity had a balanced attack as Robert Davis tallied 15 points, Chad Warren 12, and Steve Sherman 11 points and 10 rebounds. Gary Ward led the Indians with 15 points and Brendan Holden chipped in with nine.
