POOLESVILLE VICTORIOUS OVER VIKINGS - 02/22/02

St. John's put forth a solid effort but came up short, losing to Poolesville 46-33 in varsity action. Poolesville's Brandon Moore led all scorers with 15 points while the Vikings' Paul Crone had 10 points.

Poolesville's jayvees got 17 points and 14 points, respectively, from Kyle Dickerson and Jay Lowe in a 39-28 decision. The duo also combined to hit 10 of 12 free throws. St. John's was led by John O'Donoghue with 12 points and Larry Hodgekiss with 8 points.

BALLENGER, POOLESVILLE JAYVEES WIN KEY GAMES - 02/21/02

Ballenger Creek's jayvees moved back into a tie with Windsor Knolls at 20-1 with a hard-fought 39-36 win against TJ. Luis Machado paced the winners with 16 points while Randal Smedley and Daniel Shannon also played well and contributed eight and seven points, respectively. Sean Rascoe had a game-high 18 points for TJ.

Brett Bonneville scored 18 of his 23 points in the second half to lead TJ to a 51-47 come-from-behind victory in the varsity contest. Ballenger led by six going into the fourth period. Josh Nesbitt added 14 points for the Pats. Ballenger was led by Brendan Porter with 13 points and Kevin Henry with eight.

Poolesville took a major step toward the MVAL jayvee title with a 39-32 triumph against Catoctin. The Indians' Jay Lowe led all scorers with 16 points while Jason Kramek came off the bench to put in two key jump shots and added a couple of big steals. Matt Ray and Matt Conley collectively had 16 rebounds. Derek Woelfel continued his awesome outside shooting to lead Catoctin with 12 points, followed closely by Josh Chmelik with 11.

The Indians' varsity boys jumped out to a 36-17 lead at the half and coasted to a 51-31 win. Catoctin received an outstanding effort from Jake Young with 14 points. Ben Rose and Matt Santos contributed seven points apiece. Poolesville was led by Tyler Bierly with 16 points. Brendon Moore and Willie Bodmer also contributed to the victory with 13 and eight points, respectively.

Linganore edged Monocacy 42-39 in varsity action. Top scorer for the Lancers was Jon Sweadner with 14 points. Monocacy, which led at the half 19-17, got 14 points from Isaiah Martin.

The Lancers also pulled out a 37-32 decision in the prelim. Vince Weaver had nine points and Philip Monteau seven for Linganore. Monocacy's top scorers were Gideon Omayami with seven points, Matthew Knauss and Dennis Williams with six points each.

LINGANORE DOUBLES UP CATOCTIN, TJ JAYVEES WIN - 02/20/02

Linganore defeated Catoctin's varsity 60-32 with a balanced scoring attack led by Mike Herrod and Paul Rhoads with nine points each. Jacob Yocum netted 15 points for the Cougars.

The Lancers won the jayvee game 43-42 on a shot with just two seconds remaining. Andrew Rhoads and Vince Weaver had 15 and 11 points, respectively, for the winners. Josh Chmelik poured in a game-high 23 for Catoctin.

TJ outscored MSD 36-10 in the second half to pull away for a 60-30 victory. Sean Rascoe lead the Patriots with 19 points. MSD was led by Scott Lehmann with 16 points, Kevin Berrigan chipped in with eight. Artez Smallwood added 12 points for TJ while Brandon Rascoe had 10.

WEST FREDERICK TAKES PAIR FROM WALKERSVILLE - 02/19/02

Jerame Duvall, Malcom Kattes and Daniel Toft paced West Frederick with 19, 12 and 10 points, respectively, as they defeated Walkersville's varsity 49-35. The Lions had a true team effort with all nine players scoring. Jason Santos and Chris Reilly played their best games of the season.

West Frederick won the jayvee contest 56-31 behind 19 points from Steven Custis and 17 from Travon Vann. Jonathan Nusbaum totalled eight points to lead the Lions.

BALLENGER, LINGANORE SWEEP; MSD WINS THIRD STRAIGHT - 02/18/02

Ten players scored, led by Luis Machado with 16 points, as Ballenger Creek defeated Middletown's jayvees 44-19. Ballenger also won the varsity game 45-26. No addtional information was provided.

Linganore scored 35 points in the second half to run away from Poolesville's 59-35. Linganore made 20 of 25 free throws and five of seven 3-point field goals in the win. The Lancers were led by Michael Herrod with 14 points and Thomas Kesteven with 11 points. Poolesville's leading scorers were Brandon Moore with 15 points and Robert Tedeschi with 10.

The Lancers also won the jayvee game by a score of 36-29. Robert Bennett had 10 points for the winners, followed by Philip Monteau with nine. Matt Ray led Poolesville with 12 points. Jay Lowe added 11 points and Tony Cain hauled in nine rebounds in a losing cause.

Brandon McMillian netted a three-pointer with three seconds remaining as MSD edged Monocacy 38-36 for its third straight win. Scott Lehmann had 18 points for the Orioles while Kevin Berrigan added 12 points. Gideon Obamwonyi paced the Mustangs with 10 points.

WINDSOR KNOLLS CLINCHES VARSITY CMC, #1 SEED - 02/17/02

Windsor Knolls avenged it's only loss and clinched the CMC varsity title and top seed for the tournament with a 40-35 victory over TJ. Jordan Snowden, who missed that first game and much of the season with a broken ankle, led the Hawks with 11 points. Tom Mackey added 10 for the winners. Brett Bonneville had 20 points for the Patriots.

The Hawks jumped on top early in the jayvee contest and went on to win 46-36. Mike Hall and Mike Mullikin had 12 points each for Windsor Knolls. Danny Mulhern added 10. TJ was led by Brandon Rascoe with 16 points and dominant board play. Artez Smallwood played a solid game with 12 points.

Brunswick's varsity used an 18-3 run in the third quarter to turn back Walkersville 44-37. Chris Rucker led a trio of Railroaders in double-digits with 12 points while Eric Zwilsky and Chris Papanicolas contributed 10 points each. Devin Trout had 13 points and Derek Hubbard 10 for the Lions.

The Railroaders made a 10-3 first-quarter jayvee lead stand up in a 42-36 victory. Austin Darling and Grant Wilson had 10 and nine points, respectively, for the winners. Jonathan Nusbaum had a game-high 14 points for Walkersville, including four treys. Kevin Jandovitz added nine points.

West Frederick defeated Linganore's jayvees 34-24. Travon Vann led the Cadets with 14 points. Andrew Rhoads matched that total for the Lancers.

The varsity game was not reported.

WINDSOR KNOLLS, TJ EACH WIN PAIR - 02/16/02

Windsor Knolls held off West Frederick's varsity for a 52-45 win. The Hawks led 33-19 at the half, but the Cadets got to within four in the second half before the visitors secured the win. Steve Anderson had 17 points, Matt Urie 13 and Greg Price 10 for the winners. Jerame Duvall netted 23 points for West Frederick.

A 10-2 third period run put Windsor Knolls in command of the jayvee game and they went on to a 52-32 victory. Mike Hall had 25 points and Mike Mullikin added 11 for the Hawks. Josh Nixon had 15 points and Travon Vann 10 in a losing cause.

Brett Bonneville had 28 points and TJ broke away from a 24-23 halftime lead to defeat Middletown's varsity 53-43. Josh Nesbitt and Nathan Dowiak added nine and eight points, respectively, for the Patriots. Middletown was led by Tyler Moser with 15 points, Colin Donovan with 10 and Patrick Carney with eight points.

TJ defeated Middletown's jayvees 46-31. Brandon Rascoe led the way for TJ with 17 points and nine rebounds while Artez Smallwood tallied 12 points. Patrick McCarrick led the way for Middletown with 15 points.

Patrick Uthe had 11 points, including seven free throws, and was outstanding defensively in leading Monocacy to a 42-37 varsity win against Ballenger Creek. Deke Gaeng added 10 points, six of those from the line, for the winners. Ballenger Creek got 10 points from Danny Edwards.

Ballenger won the jayvee game 35-28. Daniel Shannon paced the Bulldogs with 15 points and Luis Machado added eight. Gideon Obamyami connected for a game-high 16 points for Monocacy.

Brandon Moore and Zach Stowers combined for 39 points as Poolesville defeated Catoctin 56-32 in varsity play. Moore had 24 points and Stowers 15. Michael Topper led Catoctin in scoring with 14 points while Ben Rose added seven points.

Catoctin won the javyee game. The Cougars took control in the fourth quarter with a strong defensive charge, led by Kyle Beard and Matty Thompson's combined six steals. Derek Woelfel led the way for Catoctin, scoring a game-high 22 points. Brian Woodward helped out with 18 points and many key rebounds. Poolesville was led by Matt Ray with 13 and Wesley Ketchum with 12 points.

ST. JOHN'S UPSETS MIDDLETOWN VARSITY - 02/15/02

St. John's used a tremendous defensive effort and three free throws by Paul Crone in overtime to upset MVAL varsity division-leading Middletown 30-28. The game was tied at 27 at the end of regulation. Crone led all scorers with 17 points. Job Merkel also had a solid performance, chipping in seven points while John Magro and Bart Sapp pulled down 15 rebounds in the winning effort. Middletown got good performances out of Colin Donovan, Patrick Carney and Tyler Moser.

Josh Meikrantz rebounded an errant shot and converted it as time expired as Middletown won the jayvee game 34-33. St. John's led throughout the game, but Paul Smith (16 points with four three-pointers) single-handedly kept Middletown in the game. The Vikings were led by Matt Stephey with 14 points and John O'Donohue with 10 points.

TJ, MONOCACY SPLIT; MSD EDGES LINGANORE - 02/14/02

Brett Bonneville had 28 points and TJ made a 22-16 halftime lead stand up for a 47-42 victory over Monocacy's varsity. The Mustangs got to within three points late in the fourth period, but TJ made 6-of-8 free throws in the final two minutes to seal the win. Nathan Dowiak added eight points for the winners. Deke Gaeng and Isaiah Martin had 10 points each in a losing cause.

Gideon Obamwonyi poured in 27 points and Monocacy pulled away in the fourth quarter of the jayvee game for a 43-34 triumph. Monocacy outscored the hosts 13-5 in the final frame. TJ was led by Brandon Rascoe with 14 points. Sean Rascoe chipped in with 12.

Scott Lehman had 34 points to lead MSD to a 42-41 victory over Linganore. Andrew Rhoads netted 20 points for the Lancers.

LINGANORE WINS PAIR, MSD BUMPS BRUNSWICk - 02/13/02

Linganore used balanced scoring, with all 11 team members scoring, to defeat Walkersville's varsity 64-28. The Lancers were led by Phil Rhoads, Bill Kerrigan and Nick Lawrence with 13, 11, and nine points, respectively. The Devin Trout had 13 points and Andrew Schappert five for the Lions.

The Lancers controlled the jayvee game from the tip-off, registering a 43-22 victory. Philip Monteau paced the winners with 16 points, doubling up Walkersville's top scorer Chad Benford who had eight points.

MSD trailed 9-2 after one period, but came alive in the second and went on to defeat Brunswick 39-25. For MSD, Kevin Berrigan notched 15 points while Scott Lehmann added 10 points.

CADETS AVENGE LOSS WITH ONE-POINT WIN OVER MSD - 02/11/02

West Frederick held off another late MSD charge for a 39-38 jayvee win that avenged a 36-33 setback against the Orioles last week. The Cadets led by eight in the third period, but MSD came back to take a one-point lead late in the fourth quarter. WF scored with less that 20 seconds remaining and MSD missed an attempt at the buzzer. Steven Custis had 14 points for the winners while Travon Vann and Josh Nixon added eight and seven points, respectively. For the O's, Scott Lehmann had 15 points and Kevin Berrigan with 10.

HAWKS, KNIGHTS GRAB TWO WINS EACH - 02/10/02

Greg Price led a balanced Windsor Knolls attack with 13 points in a 56-47 varsity win against Linganore. The Lancers' Paul Rhodes led all scorers with 21 points.

Windsor Knolls placed four players in double digits in winning the jayvee game 69-22. Mike Jarboe and Mike Mullikin tallied 13 points each while Mike Hall added 12 points and Zach Kebetz 11. Andrew Rhodes led the Lancers with eight points and Philip Monteau connected for seven.

Middletown got past an improving Catoctin varsity 45-27. Colin Donavan had 10 points for Middletown. Michael Topper and Jacob Yocum had eight points each for Catoctin.

The Knights allowed Catoctin just seven second-half points in pulling away for a 40-27 victory. Catoctin was lead by Brian Woodward with 13 points. Middletown had seven players score and were led by Patrick McCarrick with 14 tallies and Josh Meikrantz with 13.

Brunswick's varsity took a 28-17 lead at the half and made it stand up for a 47-41 triumph over St. John's. Chris Papanicolas paced the Railroaders with 15 points while Robert Mullinix chipped in with 10 points.

St. John's let a seven point halftime lead slip away before pulling out a 52-49 win in double overtime in the jayvee game. Matt Stephey topped the Vikings scoring list with 14 points, Tim Peifer added 13 and John O'Donoghue 11. Grant Wilson led the Railroaders with 17 markers and Brian Fitzpatrick offered 10 points.

TJ used a suffocating zone defense to pull away in the fourth quarter for a 43-32 varsity win against a determined Poolesville squad. TJ was led by Brett Bonneville with 14 points. Josh Nesbitt and Nathan Dunkirk contributed 10 points apiece in the win. Poolesville was led by Brandon Moore with a game-high 19 points.

Brandon Rascoe's 15 points helped power TJ to a 36-15 jayvee victory over Poolesville. Artez Smallwood chipped in with eight points for the winners. Wes Ketchum and Tony Cain each had 5 rebounds in a losing cause.

WINDSOR KNOLLS MANAGES MONOCACY; BC, WF SWEEP - 02/09/02

Windsor Knolls eased out to a 25-15 halftime lead and went on to defeat Monocacy's varsity 49-33. Steven Anderson had 17 points and Matt Urie 16 for the Hawks. Sammy Arouni netted 10 points for the Mustangs.

The Hawks broke open a close game with a 19-4 fourth-quarter burst to take the jayvee game 43-24. WK raced to a 10-2 first quarter lead, but a determined Mustang squad fought back to within two at the half, 16-14. The gamed remained close at the end of the third, 24-20. Mike Hall led the winners with 13 points, Mike Jarboe added 12 and Zack Kebetz eight. The Mustangs were led by Gideon Obamyami with 11 points and Dennis Williams with eight.

Ballenger Creek's varsity registered a 61-22 win over Catoctin. Kevin Henry scored a game-high 12 points for the Bulldogs while Chris Leizear added nine. Michael Topper scored eight points for the Cougars while Ben Rose added six points.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first quarter of the jayvee game and held that margin thoughout for a 47-33 triumph. Daniel Shannon poured in 15 points and Randal Smedley helped out with nine for Ballenger. Catoctin was lead by Josh Chmelik's nine points.

Malcolm Kattes had 23 points and Jerame Duvall added 15 as West Frederick took a 40-29 varsity decision from Middletown. Tyler Moser finished with 10 points and Patrick Carney nine for the Knights.

A strong first half provided the Cadets a 41-25 win in the prelim. West Frederick led 25-8 at intermission. They were paced by Steve Custis with 19 points while Josh Nixon contributed 10. Paul Smith had a team-high 13 for Middletown.

BRUNSWICK WINS TWO, BC JAYVEE TOPS MSD - 02/07/02

Brunswick slipped by St. John's 49-41 in a see-saw varsity contest. The Railroaders were led by the scoring of Chris Papanicolas with 19 points while John Magro scored 16 points for the Vikings.

Grant Wilson scored 25 points, including 11-of-16 from the foul line, to rally the Railroaders to a 43-36 win in the jayvee game. The contest was tied at the half, 19-19. John O'Donoghue led St. John's with 12 points while Stefan Omelchenko had eight points and Jimmy Harris had six and was a factor on the boards.

Six players hit for double figures, three on each team, as Ballenger Creek defeated MSD's jayvees 50-37. Luis Machado had a game-high 15 points for BC while Daniel Shannon offered 14 points and Randal Smedley 10. Scott Lehman had 13 points for the Orioles while Kevin Berrigan added 12 points and Brandon McMillan ten.

CATOCTIN VARSITY WINS FIRST, JAYVEE FALLS IN OT - 02/06/02

Catoctin's varsity picked up it's first win of the year, topping Walkersville 44-37. They were led by Ben Rose and Corey Myers with 11 and 17 points, respectively. The Lions were led by Dereck Hubbard's 11 points and Nick Decarlo added nine.

Jonathan Nusbaum ripped the nets for 24 points and Rickey Smith added 15 as Walkersville upset the division-leaders 57-56 in overtime in the jayvee game. Chad Benford and Daniel Mowery also played well for the winners. Derek Woelfel had 20 points, Brian Woodward 12 and Josh Chmelik 11 for the Cougars.

LEHMAN'S FOURTH QUARTER HEROICS RESCUES MSD - 02/05/02

Scott Lehman scored 13 of his team's 15 points in the fourth quarter as MSD rallied to beat West Frederick. The Orioles outscored the hosts 15-5 in the fourth period. Lehman finished with 19 points while Travon Vann paced the Cadets with 13 points.

POOLESVILLE DOUBLES UP WALKERSVILLE, MSD WINS - 02/03/02

Poolesville downed Walkersville's varsity 52-24 behind the scoring of Brandon Moore (20 points, nine rebounds) and Tyler Bierly (16 points) and a smothering full court press. Poolesville jumped out to a 30-9 halftime lead. Walkersville was led by Andrew Schappert with six point while Michael Sellers and Devin Trout contributed five points each. Zach Stowers also contributed eight points for the winners.

Five different Walkersville players hit three-pointers, but it wasn't enough as Poolesville's solid all-around play resulted in a 32-23 victory. Jay Lowe led Poolesville with 15 points, Wes Ketchum pulled in eight rebounds and Kyle Dickerson came off the bench to make two key free throws for an injured teammate. Jonathan Nusbaum led Walkersville with five points.

MSD broke away from a 22-19 halftime advantage and went on to post a 53-29 triumph over St. John's. Scott Lehmann had 17 points, Daniel Fava 16 and Kevin Berrigan 11 to lead MSD. Matt Stephey had six points and Tim Peifer five for St. John's.

Linganore's varsity just got by Middletown 35-32. Paul Rhodes netted 12 points for the Lancers and Colin Donavan had 13 for the Knights.

Middletown won the jayvee game 32-28. Josh Meikrantz had a game-high 12 points to lead the winners. Vincent Weaver had 11 in a losing cause.

INTRA-CITY TEAMS SPLIT, WK LEADS SWEEPERS - 02/02/02

Brett Bonneville's 24 points powered TJ to a 45-39 victory over West Frederick's varsity. The game was close thoughout with TJ leading 15-12 at the half. Ron Fishburne added ten points for the Pats while three Cadets - Danny Toft, Devon Dykes and Ronnie Hall - finished with ten apiece.

West Frederick limited TJ to just eight second half points in pulling away for a 39-24 jayvee victory. The Cadets, who led 18-16 at the half, got 11 points from Q'Monte Matheny while Josh Nixon added nine and Steven Custis eight. Brandon Rascoe led the Patriots with 14 points while Artez Smallwood chipped in with nine points.

Windsor Knolls got off to a 26-2 first-quarter start and overwhelmed Middletown's varsity 70-22. Every Hawk player scored. Matt Urie led the barrage with 16 points and Steve Anderson added 13 points. Alex Carr and Colin Donavan had six points each for Middletown.

The Hawks lead 43-20 after three quarters and withstood a 14-point fourth from the Knights to claim a 45-34 jayvee win. WK was led by Danny Mulhern with 14 points, Mike Mullikin with 12 and Mike Hall with 11. The Knights were led by Patrick McCarrick with 12 tallies.

Mike Herrod, Thomas Kesteven and Paul Rhoads each scored 12 points as Linganore defeated Catoctin's varsity 61-31. Jake Yocum was the leading scorer for Catoctin with 12 points while Michael Topper added 11.

Jeremiah Cook hit a shot with 4.7 seconds on the clock to give Linganore a 36-34 jayvee triumph. Vincent Weaver lead the Lancers with 11 points. Philip Monteau helped out with 10. Josh Chmelik poured in 22 points for Catoctin.

Monocacy held on for a 46-40 win over Brunswick in varsity action. Top scorer for Monocacy was Isaiah Martin with 14 points while Deke Gaeng added six. Ten players scored for the Mustangs. Brunswick was led by Chris Papanicolas with 13 points and Chris Rucker with seven.

The 'Stangs also won the jayvee contest 48-18. Monocacy got 13 points from Dennis Williams while the dynamic duo of the Knauss brothers combined for 14 - Matt (9), Kevin (5). Grant Wilson was tops for the Railroaders with seven points.

BALLENGER, WINDSOR KNOLLS JAYVEES GO TO 17-1 - 01/31/02

Ballenger Creek limited Linganore to just 13 points in doubling up the Lancers 26-13 in jayvee action. Kevin Nicholas had seven points and Daniel Shannon six for the winners.

In the varsity game, the Bulldogs hit seven three-pointers on their way to a 47-27 victory over the Lancers. Sean Courtney had three treys in the first half as Ballenger took a 28-17 lead. BC then went on an 8-0 run to begin the second half to break the game open. Courtney led all scorers with 18 points and Danny Edwards had 10 points for Ballenger. Linganore was led by Jon Sweadner with six points and Thomas Kesteven with six.

Windor Knolls darted to a 27-7 halftime lead and withstood a 19-point fourth quarter by MSD to beat the Orioles 51-32. For the Hawks, Michael Hall had 15 points, Daniel Mulhern 12 Michael Jarboe 10. Scott Lehmann tallied 15 points for the Orioles.

WALKERSVILLE TAKES TWO FROM ST. JOHN'S - 01/30/02

Walkersville's varsity snapped a four-game losing streak tonight with a victory over St. John's. Nine of 11 players scored for the winners. Joe Reilly and Nick Decarlo led the way with 12 and seven points, respectfully. Chris Reilly and Greg Brooks had a strong defensive effort. John Magro lead the Vikings with seven points.

The Lions came back from a 15-11 halftime deficit to win the jayvee game 29-25. Rickey Smith had eight points for the Lions and Kevin Jandovitz added six. Matt Stephey led the Vikes with nine markers while John O'Donohue and Joe Winters tallies six points each.

HARD LUCK O'S LOSE TO POOLESVILLE - 01/28/02

Poolesville used a 15-8 advantage at the foul line to defeat MSD. It was the fifth loss by five points or less for the Orioles this season. The Indians had three players in double digits - Matt Ray with 14 points, Matt Conley 12 and Jay Lowe 10. Scott Lehmann led MSD with 14 points while Kevin Berrigan contributed 11 points.

CMC TEAMS GO 8-0 IN INTER-DIVISION PLAY - 01/27/02

A 29-8 second quarter propelled West Frederick to a 67-32 jayvee win over Middletown. Josh Nixon had 21 points to lead the Cadets while Q'monte Matheny added 15 and Travon Vann 10. Middletown was led by Patrick McCarrick with 12 points.

West Frederick won the varsity game 39-21 but no additional details were made available.

Windsor Knolls outlasted an inspired Poolesville varsity for a 35-21 win. The Hawks used a 13-0 run in the third quarter to pull away. Steve Anderson had six of his team-high 10 points in that run. Greg Price added nine points, all on three-pointers, for the winners. Poolesville, which led 11-6 after one period, was led by Brandon Moore with eight points and Jared Christman with seven.

Michael Hall scored 13 points as Windsor Knolls defeated Poolesville 43-23 in the jayvee game. Jay Lowe was Poolesville's high scorer with eight points.

Every Linganore player scored, led by Paul Rhoads' 10 points, as the varsity Lancers topped St. John's 53-23. Paul Crone's eight points paced the Vikings.

Jeremiah Cook and Andrew Rhoads had eight points apiece as Linganore won the jayvee game 39-33. Matt Stephey had a game-high 10 points for St. John's while Stefan O'Melchenko netted seven points.

Ballenger Creek used second and fourth quarter spurts to defeated Brunswick's varsity 53-30. The Railroaders hung tough in the first and third, outscored only 25-22 in those periods. Danny Reed led the Bulldogs with 19 points, including five-of-seven from three-point range, while Aaron Main had nine for the Railroaders.

Brunswick (1-15) nearly pulled the season's biggest upset in the jayvee game as Ballenger Creek (16-1) survived for a 29-27 win. Luis Machado had 11 points for Ballenger and Grant Wilson also tallied 11 for Brunswick.

WINDSOR KNOLLS, BALLENGER CREEK WIN TWO APIECE - 01/26/02

Windsor Knolls doubled up Walkersville 48-18 in varsity action behind the 14 point, nine rebound performance of Steve Anderson. Devin Trout had eight points to lead the Lions.

The Hawks dashed to a 22-6 first-quarter lead in the jayvee game and went on to win 56-20. Mike Mullikin led a balanced attack with 10 points while Michael Hall and Danny Mulhern added eight each. Dave Andrews also turned in a solid effort with five rebounds and three steals. Jonathan Nusbaum led Walkersville with seven points.

Ballenger Creek's varsity got off to a 19-2 start but had to hold off TJ to record a 53-48 win. Danny Edwards had 17 points and Danny Reed 11 for the winners. The Patriots, who got within two points in the final minute, were led by Brett Bonneville's 19 points and also got 13 from Ron Fishburne.

Dante Stansbury scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half as Ballenger won the jayvee game 38-31. Dan Shannon chipped in with eight points for the Bulldogs. The Pats were led by Artez Smallwood with 11 points and Brandon Rascoe with 10.

Isaiah Martin had 18 points and Brad Betson added eight as Monocacy defeated West Frederick's varsity 54-37. Twelve players scored for the Mustangs. Leading the way for West Frederick was Jerame Duvall with 11 points and Ronnie Hall with 10.

Q'monte Methany ripped the nets for 29 points as the Cadets won the jayvee contest 45-33. Monocacy got 19 points from Gideon Obamyami and six from Dennis Williams.

Catoctin took a 20-13 lead at halftime and went on to win 49-36 against MSD. Josh Chmelik's 18 points were tops for the Cougars while Brian Woodward notched 12. MSD was led by Kevin Berrigan's eight points.

WEST FREDERICK, BALLENGER SPLIT; TJ WINS TWO - 01/24/02

Danny Toft hit a turnaround jumper with eight seconds left to give West Frederick a 47-45 victory and a split of their season series with Ballenger Creek's varsity. Ballenger set up a final shot as Kevin Henry drove to the basket and kicked it out to Danny Reed for an open three-point attempt, but it was just short. The Cadets led 25-21 at the half and by six after three periods, but BC made a run behind the shooting of Kevin Henry and a pair of three-pointers by Reed to take a short-lived fourth period advantage. West Frederick was led by Brandon Giles with 11 points and Malcolm Kates with 14. Henry had 15 points and Reed with 13 for BC.

Ballenger won the prelim 41-23 behind 12 points from Dante Stansbury. Chris Thompson led the Cadets with 10 points.

Brett Bonneville had nine of his season-high 35 points in the fourth quarter to lead TJ to a 52-38 triumph over Brunswick. The Railroaders hung tough and trailed 23-20 before the home team rallied. Eric Zwilsky led Brunswick scorers with 12 points.

TJ used a 14-0 run in the third quarter to take the jayvee contest 39-24. TJ led by just eight, 25-17, after a first half that saw Brandon Rascoe score 11 of his game-high 17 points and Brunswick's Grant Wilson counter with 13 of his total 14. Rascoe also contributed 10 rebounds while Artez Smallwood and Terrance Kerns chipped in with eight and five points, respectively.

BALLENGER WINS PAIR, MONOCACY JAYVEES TOP MSD - 01/23/02

Ballenger Creek's jayvees rebounded from their first regular season loss by defeating Walkersville 34-22. Malcolm Naylor had seven points for the winners while Dante Stansbury and Daniel Shannon chipped in with six points each. Rickey Smith scored seven points to lead the Lions.

The Bulldogs pulled away in the second half of the varsity game for a 53-22 triumph. Ballenger, which led 19-15 at the half, was led by Danny Edwards with 13 points. Brendan Porter added nine and Chris Leizear connected for eight points. Walkersville was led by Devin Trout with 11 points.

Monocacy defeated MSD 45-26 in jayvee play. Gideon Obamwamyi had 19 points for the Mustangs while Tim Snyder, Dan Foit and Sam Drake had five points apiece. Brandon McMillian paced the Orioles' attack with 13 points.
