VARSITY
In the third straight meeting between recent powerhouses Monocacy and Walkersville in the AA league championship game, a packed gym at MSD was treated to a thriller. In a well-played game, the defending champion Walkersville Lions were defeated by the Monocacy Mustangs 46-44. Both teams handled each others pressure defense well and each team executed its offense to advance the score. The Mustangs led by 8 at the half as DeAndre Scott and Lamont Wims combined for 15 first-half points, with DeAndre stroking from outside and Lamont getting to the rim. The lead could have been greater, but James Hughes' 8 first half points and Ricky Pardo's spark off the bench kept the Lions within striking distance. But it was the second half that made the crowd get up off its feet as the Lions struggled to cut the Mustangs lead and the Monocacy cagers tried to pull away. Although the lead was extended to 10 at one point, at the end of three periods it was a mere 7 points. The Lions' run came in the fourth quarter behind increased defensive pressure led by Jon Anderson and Andrew Voorhis, forcing Monocacy to make free throws. The Mustangs did not back off, scoring 5 of their nine 4th quarter points from the foul line, forcing the Lions to score quickly and continue to foul. The Lions had two excellent opportunities to pull even within the last 15 seconds, but the ball just would not fall and the Mustangs earned the win. Orlando Rosa and James Hughes of the Lions, and Lamont Wims and Treyvon Randolph of Monocacy each effectively and effeciently ran the offense for their respective teams. For the Mustangs, DeAndre Scott had 14 points, Lamont Wims 12, Connor Joos 8, Jacob Park 7, and Treyvon Randolph 5. For the Lions, James Hughes had 19 points to lead all scorers and added 5 rebounds, Xavier Stewart had 9 points and 7 rebounds, Orlando Rosa 5 points, Ray Ferguson 5 points and 5 rebounds, Ricky Pardo 4 points, and Quentin Ezell 2 points.
JAYVEE
West Frederick used a dominant fourth quarter to win the jayvee title game 45-32. The Cadets were up 11-7 after one quarter and 20-18 at the half. Urbana outscored West Frederick 10-5 in the third quarter to take a three-point lead into the final period and held that advantage until the four minute mark when the Cadets went on a furious run. Putting the front man in their 1-2-1-1 press on the ball, the Cadets forces five quick turnovers and converted them into easy baskets which sealed the win. West Frederick was led by Jalen Gee with 18 points and Nigel Fender with 17. Urbana was led by James Jaworski with 10 points, Kyle Rose with seven, Thomas Utt with seven and Mike Madaras with six.
VARSITY
Brunswick defeated Glenwood 46-38 to take the 2006-07 single A championship crown. The game was a defensive battle throughout as both teams matched up in man to man defense. Glenwood led after the first period 8-10 but Brunswick took the lead at the half 22-26 as tournament MVP C.J. Shankle scored 9 of his game high 15 points in the second period. Defense ruled the third period as Glenwood was held to 3 points and Brunswick only managed 6 to take a 7 point lead into the final quarter. Brunswick tried to work the ball inside as Glenwood's center, Erik Siegfried was playing with 3 fouls. Siegfried recieved a lot of help as guards Brendan McMahon and Colin Osborne doubled down on the post players, forcing turnovers. Glenwood tried to push the ball down the floor but Brunsiwck guards Anthony Chapouris and DeShaun Imes hustled back on defense to consistently halt the Glenwood break and challenge any drives to the basket. With 3 minutes left in the fourth period, the Glenwood squad made one last charge, cutting the Brunswick lead to 2, 32-30, but that was as close as they would come as Chapouris hit a clutch 3 pointer to regain momentum for Brunswick. The exhausted Glenwood team, reduced to seven players since mid-season due to academics and injury, was unable to hit a shot when they needed it most. The ball literally was not bouncing Glenwoods way. With Brunswick holding onto a five point lead, Siegfried and Brunswick's Tyrus Lawson battled inside for a crucial rebound. With neither player able to gain conrol, the ball bounced hard off the floor and sailed high into the air, right into the basket to give Brunswick a seven point lead with a minute remaining. Lawson added 11 points Shankle's 15 while Chapouris hit for 10 and Stephen McCallum added 6. Colin Osborne led Glenwood with 10, while Erik Siegfried managed 9, Scott Dziwulski 7 and Zack LePage 5.
JAYVEE
In a game befitting a championship game, FQMS edged Glenwood on a driving layup by Davis Grove as time expired 43 - 41. Glenwood came to play with great guard play combined with strong inside rebounding and led at halftime by 23 - 14. The 3rd quarter ended with Glenwood still up by 33 - 30. Late in the 4th quarter Glenwood took a 5 point lead on a driving basket by Jeffrey Jacoby. Grove responded with a reverse layup in traffic and James Wood hit a basket off an assist by Blake Heuer to pull FQMS even. After making his 1st free throw, Michael Nicastro rebounded his second free throw attempt and drove his way into the basket for a layup to put FQMS back up. Jacoby then scored on a follow-up layup with 6 seconds remaining when Nicastro threw a perfect inbounds strike to Grove who scored the game winner. Matthew Hughes lead Glenwood with 12 while Jacoby played a great all-around game and ended with 10. Guard Nicholas Wynne played well penetrating the Falcon defense numerous times for assists and Golden Trawick and Joseph Tolbert chipped in 6 points apiece. Nicastro who was named the MVP had 14 points and played a great all-around game along with Grove who ended with 7. Blake Heuer despite being hobbled with a injured ankle played well and ended with 6 points and numerous assists and Dan Grimes added 6 points.
VARSITY "AA"
The Walkersville Lions outlasted the Thomas Johnson Patriots 36 - 29. TJ led after the first quarter 10-7, with 60% of those points coming from the charity stripe, with Joe Atmonavage contributing 5. He ended the game as TJ's high scorer with 8, all from the foul line. At half time, the Lions had captured the lead by one, 21-20 with balanced scoring down the lineup. But it was the third quarter the secured the Walkersville victory, outscoring the Patriots 12-4, and then ratcheting up the defense and playing ball control to exit with the win. For the Lions, the scoring was led by Xavier Stewart with 11 points and 6 rebounds, James Hughes had 10 points and 7 rebounds, and Orlando Rosa had 10 points. In addition to Joe Atmonavege's 8, Brian Chase had 7 points, and Arsean Nelson had 6 for Thomas Johnson.
Connor Joos scores winning basket with two second left in game to give the Mustangs 43 - 41 win over the Cavaliers. After Nat Puryear converted two free throws to tie the game 41 - 41, Evan Campbell inbounded the ball to LaMont Wims who pushed it up court to the foul line, as the defense double teamed him he found Joos open under the bucket for the game winner, in a game that was hard fought and aggessively played though out. The Cavaliers where led by Andrew Rollins eith 14 points (11 for 14 from the free throw line), Charles Myers 8 points, Nat Puryear seven points ( 5 for 6 from the free throw line), Trayvon Hoy 10 points (two three pointers and 0 for three from the free throw line), John Thomas four points (2 for 6 from the free throw line), Kwame Asante two points ( 0 for 2 from the free throw line). The Mustangs where led by Joos 12 points, Wims eight points, Jacob Park five points, Deandre Scott five points, Josh Messinger five points, and Trayvon Randoph four points.
VARSITY "A"
In a rematch of last year's jayvee championship game, Oakdale jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead over Brunswick but the 'Roaders came screaming back behind Anthony Chapuris who scored eight points in the first quarter to tie the score at 16-16 after one period. The teams continued to battle in a physical game that saw 20 first half fouls called. Brunswick then came out strong in the third period and took it to Oakdale to take a 38-30 lead after three periods. The Eagles normally good shooting - inside and out - just wasn't there, and clutch free throw shooting for Brunswick ended the Oakdale season 56-40. Chapuris played a great game with 16 points while being hounded the entire game by the Oakdale defenders. CJ Shankle added 13 points. Vince Croce paced the Eagles with 12 points. Juan Retana added nine.
Glenwood defeats Mt. Airy 66 - 41. Glenwood was able to hold off a tenacious Mt. Airy squad. championship. Mt. Airy was able to work the ball inside to their dominant big man, Ryan McTavish who finished with a team high 17 points and 12 rebounds. Mt. Airy held the lead at the end of the first quarter, 16 to 12, but Glenwood stayed poised and used a balanced attack to regain the lead by halftime, 23 - 33. Neither team was successful in the full court press but relied on tough man-to-man defense in the second half. Glenwood posted three players in double figures, working the ball inside to their big man, Erik Siegfried, who finished the night with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 blocked shots. Brendan McMahon played an outstanding all around game, hitting for 18 ponts, 9 rebounds and 7 steals, while playing outstanding defense. Colin Osborne led the fastbreak, scoring 12 points. Scott Dziwulski added eight points and eight rebounds and outstanding defense and hustle. Danny Napolitanod added five points and six assists, while doing an outstanding job handling the point and distibuting the ball. Nathan Gorey and Zack LePage came off the bench scoring two each while contributing to the defensive effort. In addition to McTavish's 17 points and 12 rebounds, Jake Smith added nine points while Jake Phillips hit for seven. Both players hit big three pointers in the first half to pull Glenwood out of their 1-2-2 zone.
JAYVEE "AA"
Middletown and West Frederick went bucket for bucket in the first quarter with the cadets scoring 9pts and the knights scoring 8pts. In the second score the game would remain close with the cadets holding on to a five point lead until Ryan Kennedy raced down the floor with ten seconds left to hit a three pointer at the buzzer sending the cadets into the locker room with an eight point led 22-14. In the third quarter the knights held the cadets scoreless for the first three minutes of the quarter. During that time Middletown was able to cut the cadets led to four points before Ryan Kennedy hit a tough lay-up in the lane than Nigel Fender came back with another lay up extend the cadets led back to 8. In the fourth quarter each team was even until the Cadets put on a full court press that got them four turnovers in a row. Jalen scored on two of the turn overs and Lashawn Naylor scored on one to push the West Frederick led to 14pts. After a Middletown timeout, the Knights went on a 6-0 run to pull the led back to within 8. Middletown made one more run to cut the lead to four, but they would get no closer. The cadets were able to hit some clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the game. The final score was West Frederick 42 and Middletown 37. The cadets were led by Ryan Kennedy with 16pts, Jalen Gee with 13, Lashawn Naylor with 6, Nigel Finder with 4 and Connor Corbitt with 3. The Knights were led by Ben Lewis with 12, Zach Fontenot with 11, Connor Fisher with 4, Logan Beckner with 6 and Michal Pritts with 3.
Urbana 53, Ballenger Creek 45. The first 3 quarters saw the lead change multiple times with neither team able to break open the game. In the fourth quarter that would change with the Hawks outscoring Ballenger Creek 20-13. Matt Lane and James Jaworski provided the spark scoring 8 and 6 points respectively. Chris Discuillo hit 3 clutch free throws and Hunter Novotny hit a key basket to ignite the Hawks fourth quarter run. The Hawks were led in scoring by James Jaworski with 19 points, Matt Lane with 15 points and Mike Madaras with 11 points. Ballenger Creek had another outstanding game from John Cappolella in the post scoring 13 points in the first half and ending the game with 19 points. Mark Hoy scored 12 points including two big three pointers to keep his team close in the fourth quarter. Andy Shannon played an excellent game and chipped in 10 points.
JAYVEE "A"
FQMS defeated Poolesville 42 - 25 in the semi-finals at MSD. The game was tight throughout the 1st half with Poolesville converting on 9 of 11 free throws. Ean Addison had an outstanding half scoring 7 points and playing well inside. The 2nd half saw tenacious defense from the FQMS team with Nick Ball having several steals to start increasing the FQMS lead that they never surrendered. Poolesville was lead by Addison who finished with 8 while Dylan Bourque ended with 6. FQMS had a balanced attack with every player scoring. Logan Dubbe, Davis Grove, Michael Nicastro and Blake Heuer all contributed 8 points in the win.
Glenwood 56 Mt. Airy 48. Glenwood's high scorers were Jeff Jacoby with 20 points and Matt Hughes with 12 points. Mt. Airy's high scorers were Gavin McTarish with 19 points and Ryan Tate with 14 points. Glenwood managed to keep the lead during the game while Mt. Airy battled constantly with bursts of points causing Glenwood to call time out and regroup their defense.

Behind a first quarter shutout and continued full court pressure of West Frederick, the Walkersville Lions advanced to the tournament semi-finals by a score of 56-21. The Lions were led by James Hughes' 14 points, followed by Orlando Rosa with 10, and Ray Ferguson with 8. West Frederick relied on the perimeter shooting of big man Sky Barron who ended the game with 11 points. Andrew Leisham and Matthew Grimes added 4 each for the cadets.
The TJ Patriots won against Ballenger Creek 36-32. TJ lead at the end of the 1st with a score of 12-10 and went into the half up by six with a score of 21-15. With 4:00 to go in the fourth the Bulldogs were down by 8 points and made a rally and got it within two in the final seconds but than they had to foul to try and stop the clock. Game High Scorer was TJ's Joe Atmonavage with 14 points with 3 three pointers and teammate Mathew Lawrence added seven points. Bulldogs were led by Aturo Gyles with 10 points and Brandon Willet added 8 points.
Crestwood overcame a one point half time deficit to defeat Windsor Knolls 47-38. Shakil Smith-Cain scored nine first quarter points to give Crestwood a 14-8 advantage. Crestwood increased it's lead to 10 points in the second quarter before Windsor Knolls went on an 11-0 run to take a 23-22 half time lead. Crestwood turned up the defensive pressure, and Andrew Rollins took over offensively as Crestwood took a six point lead at the end of three quarters. Crestwood controlled the tempo in the fourth quarter and held of a valiant effort from Windsor Knolls for the victory. Smith-Cain and Rollins led the Cavs with 16 and 13 points respectively. John Thomas chipped in with nine points and an outstanding effort on the boards. Aaron Bing had a great game for the Hawks with 12 points.
Monocacy defeats Linganore 58-25. The Mustanges jump out to 21 - 6 first quarter lead against a over matched Lancer team, as LaMont Wims got off to a hot start scoring 14 points and dishing out two assists. Connor Joos and Evan Campbell would round out the frist quarter scoring with five and two points respectfully. The Lancers where led in scoring by Alexander Anwar six points, Steven Lesko three points, Ryan Santmyer nine points, and Kyle Warholic eight points. The Mustangs where led by Wims 20 points, 5 assists two steals, Connor Joos 12 points, four rebounds, Deandre Scott seven points five rebounds, Treyvon Randolp four points, four steals, Eric Brown two points, Jacob Park four points, two blocks and five rebounds, Darrly Sanders three points and Evan Campbell four points, four rebounds, and three blocked shots.

An 18-5 third quarter gave Oakdale a 43-28 lead after three periods and Oakdale coasted on to a 51-40 victory over MSD. MSD battled hard against the Eagles leading 23-21. But two buckets by Oakdale to end the half gave the Eagles a 25-23 halftime lead. The third quarter was the key to the game as back-to-back three-pointers by Kyle Carpenter and strong play in the quarter from Juan Retana and Vince Croce proved too much for the Orioles. Todd Bonheyo was tremendous with 14 first half points. Retana held him scoreless in the third quarter. Croce led all scorers with 19 points, 16 rebounds, three steals and three blocked shots. Bryon Plummer scored 13 points. Retana scored eleven. Carpenter chipped in eight. Bonheyo paced the Orioles with 18 points. Ethan Kramer added seven.
Brunswick beat Catoctin 58-34. Catoctin started fast scoring a three point play to start the game. Brunswick came back to lead 15-11 at the end of the first quarter. Brunswick used full court pressure to hold Catoctin to 7 points in the second quarter while scoring eighteen points in the quarter with DeShaun Imes dishing out multiple assists. Brunswick continued playing good defense holding Catoctin to 4 points in the third and scoring 16 to lead 49-22. Catoctin outscored Brunswick 12-9 in the final quarter. Brunswick had three players in double figures with Anthony Chapouris 19, Tyrus Lawson 11, and Joe Martin 13. Nick Maxey led Catoctin with 7 points.
Glenwood broke open a tight game in the second enroute to a 55 - 33 win over Folly Quarter. Folly Quarter played tough defense inside and out while holding several leads in the first half. Glenwood was able to rally before intermission to gain a 23 - 18 advantage. They built that lead to 23 - 38 going into the fourth quarter. Erik Siegfried and Brendan McMahon led Glenwood with 13 each. Siegfried added nine rebounds while McMahon hauled in five. Scott Dziwulski followed with 9 points and seven rebounds and Colin Osborne and Nathan Gorey had 8 each. Gorey shot a perfect four of four from the floor. Point Guard Danny Napolitano added 4 points and 7 assists. Folly Quarter was led by Scott Heydrick with 10 points and Jake McEvoy with 8.

Monocacy and West Frederick played an almost even first quarter. Paul Mclister led the early charge for Monocacy by hitting some tough shots. In the second quarter West Frederick implemented a full court press which they were able to get a couple of steals which they converted into easy buckets. The cadets went into half time leading by the score of 30 to 17. The cadets open the thrid quarter with a 10 - 2 run and nevered looked back. The final score was West Frederick 55 and Monocacy 27. Jalen Gee led West Frederick with 18pts, Nigel Fender had 15, Ryan Kennedy had 10 and Connor Corbitt chiped in with 7. Connor Weakly also had 4 pts and Lashawn Naylor scored 2. Monocacy was led by Paul Mclister with 14pts.
Urbana 48 Linganore 29. Urbana scored the first 17 points of the game and led 17-2 after the first period. Linganore came out and played the Hawks tough in the second quarter, but a 16-5 Hawk third quarter blew open the game for good. The Hawks were led in scoring by James Jaworski with 11 points and Thomas Utt with 10 points. Matt Lane and Mike Madaras added 8 points each. The Lancers were led by Clay Conner with 8 points. Matt Freibaum and Lucas Jackson each chipped in 6 points each for Linganore.
Ballenger won against Walkersville 55-16. The JV Bulldogs jumped out to 16-8 lead at the end of the first and scored 27 points in the 2nd quarter alone to go ahead a seal the victory. The Bulldogs were led by Mark Hoy with 10 points and Andy Shannon and Ali Aziz each chipped in nine a piece for the winners. Walkersvilled was lead by Jay Dennis with seven points.
The Middletown Knights held off a Windsor Knolls late surge and run for a 47-35 victory in their tournament debut Saturday at Urbana High School. The Knights were paced by Ben Lewis and his 21 points with Colin Delauter and Michael Pritts each chipping in six of their own. Windsor Knolls proved to have a balanced attack with ten players scoring. Jake Christoff netted six with Russell Lohr and Dan Degan each scoring five.
JAYVEE "A"
Mt. Airy jayvees defeated Catoctin in overtime action. Catoctin pulled ahead in the first quarter, took a six point lead into the half and led Mt. Airy mid-way through the fourth quarter. But the Cougars couldn't put Mt. Airy away and paid the price. Mt. Airy finally pulled even with about three minutes left in the fourth quarter. Mt. Airy then went up by three with less than a minute to play. At about the 30 second mark, Ryan Delauter for Catoctin got the ball in the post, made the bucket and was fouled. He sank the free throw to pull even. Mt. Airy had several shots at the basket as regulation expired but couldn't put it in the hole. In the three minute overtime, Mt. Airy made the first bucket. Catoctin missed on its possession and Gavin McTavish banked in a three for Mt. Airy to take a five-point lead with a little over a minute to play. Catoctin failed to score on its next possession and there was nothing left for the Cougars to do but foul. Mt. Airy made their foul shots and sealed the victory. Gavin McTavish for Mt. Airy led all scorers with 16 points. Alex Sattler and Ryan Tate each had 11 for Mt. Airy. Ryan Delauter led Catoctin with 10 points. Harlan Lawson had eight points and Aaron Barker five. Garrett Sprankle pulled down 14 rebounds for the Cougars.
FQMS jayvees defeated Brunswick in a hard fought game, 44 - 34. The 1st quarter was even but FQMS began to work the fast break in the 2nd quarter to go up by 19 - 14 at the half. FQMS was sparked by Blake Heuer in the 2nd half who ended up with a game-high 21 points. Davis Grove and Logan Dubbe added 7 and 6 points respectively. Brunswick had a balanced attack with Ian Fisher leading the scoring with 6 points and Chance Smith and Geoffrey Davis adding 5 apiece.
Oakdale 21 Glenwood 41. High scorers for Oakdale were Ben Bowman with 5 points and Isaiah Harper with 4 points. High scorers for Glenwood were Jeffrey Jacoby with 13 points and Nick Wynne with 8 points. Glenwood struggled the first quarter while Oakdale continued putting points on the score board. The second quarter was a bit different when Glenwood came into their own taking over the lead and keeping it throughout the remaining quarters.
Poolesville's Jayvee Boys beat MSD, 36-34, with the Falcon's Brendan Carney hitting two three-pointers and a free throw to help Poolesville erase a nine-point deficit with less than four minutes to play. Carney finished with 11 points. The Orioles were led by Jesse Steingesier with 18 points and Derek Frank with 8 points.
West Frederick defeats Urbana 47-39 in the AA tournament. Both teams played a great game the score was 18 - 17 at the half with the Cadets leading. High scorers for Frederick were Sky Baron with 20, George Snowden with 8, Daniel Samick had 7pts, Leonard Worsham added 5 pts and Lakota Tow had 3 pts. High scorer for Urbana was Patrick Walsh with 12, David Smaralli with 8, Dylan Gardner added 12 pts, (all 3's).
Linganore varsity defeated Middletown 49-46 in a very close game. Middletown jumped out to an early lead behind the 3 point shooting of Jesse Miller. Linganore fought back on several occasions as the lead went back and forth until the late in the fourth quarter. Middletown was led by Jesse Miller with 15 points and Christopher Pirrone 11 points. Linganore was led by Travis Wilks 13 points, Kyle Warholic 13 points and Ryan Santmyer with 11 points. Stevie Burke also came off the bench to provide a spark for Linganore at the point guard position.
The #8 seeded Folly Quarter Falcons defeated the #9 seeded St. Johns Varsity - 65 to 35 in a play-in game. St. Johns was led by Garrett Cook who scored a game high seventeen points and was an impressive seven for ten from the charity stripe. Assisting Cook and hustling the entire game were Nick Kelly and Trevor Wilks with five points each, Gabe Sharman with four points, Richard Davis with two points and Kevin Tercero with two points. Ronny Duehring and Jacob Schatz played great defense off the bench. Folly Quarter had all players score in the playoff game. The Falcons had Zach Scott with thirteen points including three from behind the three point arc. Jamie McEvoy and Zac Brightbill were strong in the paint with a duplicate eleven points and eight rebounds each. Scott Heydrick also added ten points. Rounding out the contributions for the Falcons was Michael Arensmeier with seven points and ten rebounds, Austin McWethy with five points, eight rebounds and three great assists, Kirby Smith with four points, Ryan Aylward with two points and Adam Ko with two points.
Linganore jayvee 49 TJ 30. In a game that was much closer than the final score would indicate the jayvee lancers topped the Patriots in an opening round contest. Trading leads throughout the first half the 2 teams struggled to find their rhythm. At halftime the Lancers held a slim one point margin, 24-23. In the second half, however, the Lancers executed their half court offense and, coupled with some aggressive defensive stops, they pulled away to win the game by a score of 49-30. Linganore was led by Kyle Jennings who had 14 rebound to go along with his 9 points. Showing a very balanced offensive effort the Lancer scoring included Ryan Hall with 13, Like Jackson and Clay conner each with 10 points. The Patriots were led by Ken Wis who totaled 16 points showing some fine offensive skills.
Brunswick jayvee defeated St.Johns 42-39. St. John’s came to play and took an 11-9 lead after the first quarter over Brunswick. The second quarter was played even and St. John’s took a halftime lead of 17-16. The third quarter St. John’s Phillip Reese hit a 3 pointer with two seconds on the clock to give St. John’s a 28-25 lead going into the fourth quarter. Both teams slugged it out in the fourth quarter with an exciting finish. The lead changed hands several times down the stretch and with 6 seconds on the clock Brunswick’s Collin Nusbaum hit two free-throws to seal the win. St. John’s was lead by Travis Deckert with 11 points and Phillip Reese with 10 points and 10 rebounds. While Ian Fisher scored 8 points for Brunswick.
The varsity Bulldogs jumped out into 16-4 run at the end of the 1st quarter and went to the half leading the Hawks 24-16. The Bulldogs led the entire game and end up taking the win with a score of 49-34. The Bulldogs were led by Derek Macierowski with 11 points and Shocquille Giles, Arturo Gyles and Konnor Kubler each had eight points a piece for the Bulldogs. The game's High Scorer was Will Duddleson from the Hawks who had 16 points and his teammate Kyle Joyce added 11 points for the Hawks.
The jayvee match up remained close until the end. The biggest lead of the game was the final score by 5. The game was within 4 points all 4 quarters. At the end of the 1st quarter Windsor Knolls was up 10-8 and going into the half the score was tied at 21. Bulldogs and Hawks were going bucket to bucket for a great nail biter and at the end of the 3rd qtr the Bulldogs took control of the lead at 33-31. With last seconds shots by the Bulldogs to take the win with a score of 45-39. The Bulldogs were led by John Cappolella with 13 points and teammates Andy Shannon and Ryan Grant each chipped in eights points a piece for the winners. The Hawks were led by Justin Ailstock who was game high scorer with 16 points and teammate Dan Deegan added eights points and Ervin Liang and Riley Spain each contributed six points a piece for the Hawks.
Monocacy varsity defeats West Frederick 40-11. The Mustangs jumped out to a 18-0 first quarter lead and went on to win 40 to 11. Scorers for the Mustangs where Connor Joos 12 points, Jacob Park eight points, Eric Brown two points, Deandre Scott eight points, LaMont Wims four points, Treyon Randoph four points, Calvin Danials five points, Daryl Sanders two points, Jerrel Coles two points and Drew Gilson one points. Scorers for the Cadet where Leonard Worsham two points, Lakota Tow three points, Matthew Grimes four points, and Corey Droneburg two points.
West Frederick jayvee defeats Monocacy 52-37. Behind a all around good game from Jalen Gee who scored 18 points and pretty much control the tempo of the game as the Cadets won 52-37. Other scorers for the Cadets where Nigel Fender five points, Ryan Kennedy nine points, Connor Corbitt four points, Lashawn Naylor eight points. The Mustangs where led by Paul McLister 12 points, James Harris, and Donte Thomas who both scored seven points.
MSD varsity 60 St Johns 37. Leading Scorers- MSD-Todd Bonheyo 16 St Johns- Trevor Wilks 13. Others with 10 or more- MSD- Todd Rewolinski 11 & Shawn Harrington 10 St Johns - Gabe Sherman 10. MSD started strong and grab the early lead, then pushed it to 23 by the half ( 37-14)- St Johns won the 3rd quarter 14-11 but could get no closer. St Johns missed many easy opportunities and shot themselves in the foot with missed FT's as well . St Johns handled the press quite well but simply dug too big of a hole to climb out of which has been the case all year.
MSD jayvee 35 St. John's 24. MSD jayvee defeated St.Johns 35-24. Both teams got off to a slow start as MSD led 5-0 at the end of the first quarter. The halftime score had MSD ahead 13-8. St. John's made a strong comeback and outscored MSD 8-5 and trailed 18-16 at the end of the third quarter. As both teams used full court pressure in the fourth quarter MSD out scored St.John's 17-8 for the victory. St.Johns was led by AJ Kenworthy 6 points and Kyle Knapps six points. While John Steirgierser tossed in 22 points for MSD.

MONOCACY VARSITY LOCKS UP CHESAPEAKE TITLE, URBANA JAYVEES CLINCH ANTIETAM CROWN - 2/24/07
Varsity - Urbana 51 Middletown 43. After trailing by nine points at the end of 3 quarters the Hawks staged a furious rally scoring 25 points in the 4th quarter to overtake the knights. The Hawks used a tough pressure defense led by Nolan Reed, Nick Flanders and David Smarelli to get their team back into the game. Patrick Walsh scored 19 points and Nick Twilley had 15 points for the Hawks. Middletown was led in scoring by Colin VanWerkhoven with 20 points and Christopher Pirrone with 14 points.
Jayvee - Urbana 42 Middletown 36. The Hawks used a solid defense in the first half to help build a 22-12 halftime lead. The Knights battled back in the second half, cutting the Hawks lead to 6 points on several occasions, but each time the Hawks responded with a run of their own pushing the lead back to double digits. The contest highlighted the strong play of two good post players with James Jaworski leading the Hawks with 19 points and Ben Lewis scoring 16 for Middletown. Kyler Rose had 8 points and Matt Lane chipped in 7 for the Hawks. Logan Beckner scored 8 points for the knights.
Monocacy varsity defeats Linganore Lancers 56-27. Connor Joos led the Monocacy Mustangs with 18 points, four rebounds. Deandre Scott followed with 14 points four steals and five rebounds as the Mustangs defeats the lancers 56-27. The Lancers cut the Mustangs 21-12 halftime led to six before the Mustangs went on a 29 to 9 run to close out the game. Lancer where led in scoring by Alexander Anwar six points, Mattew Fratto two points, Steven Lesko three points, Nick Monroe two points, Ryan Santmyer eight points, and Kyle Warholic four points. Mustangs where led by Joos 18 points, Scott 14 points, LaMont Wims 10 points eight assists, Treyvon Randolp four points, five steals, three assists, Eric Brown three points and Jacob Park two points, two blocks and four rebounds.
Monocacy jayvee defeats Linganore Lancers 43-33. Behind the around good play of Michael Omelchenko who scored eight points, had two steals and three rebounds while James Harris had seven points, two blocks and a three to end the second quarter as the Mustangs built a double-digit lead going into half. The Lancer made a run to cut the Mustang lead to five in the forth quarter before Monocacy pulled away for the final margin of victory. Mustangs where led in scoring by Omelchenko 10 points, Harris 10 points (three blocks), Danial Medina seven points, Michael Skovorak four points, Paul McLister six points. Lancers where led in scoring by Garrett Fanning five points (one three pointer), Lucas Jackson 13 points (two three pointers), Stephen Washabaugh seven points (one three pointer), and Keith Kluetz three points.
Varsity - TJ 31 Ballenger Creek 47. Ballenger controlled the game from start to finish opening with a 9-4 lead after the first period. Derik Macierowski was high man for Ballenger with 15 while Shocquille Giles added 12. Ballenger went to the half with a 23-11 lead. The Pats were lead by Sean Nelson, DJ Ansbro and Brian Chase all with 6 points apiece. TJ tried to close the gap but, Ballenger maintained it lead thru out.
JV - TJ 45 Ballenger 60. In a slug fest first half Ballenger took a 30-29 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs broke open a close first half game by out scoring TJ 12 - 7 in the third and then 18-9 in the fourth period. Ballenger's Mark Hoy was unstoppable with 26 points. Ernie Burrell added 12 for the winners. TJ was lead by Ken Wims with 14 points.
Oakdale and Poolesville played an exciting and hard fought varsity game. Oakdale came out strong and jumped out to a 6 - 0 lead. A quick timeout by Poolesville calmed things down as both teams raced up and down the court and Oakdale ended the quarter leading 17 - 15. The pace slowed a good bit in the 2nd quarter as each team missed numerous open shots. Poolesville took a 22-20 lead into the half. Tanner Mills came out strong in the 3rd quarter for Oakdale, with eight points, to give the Eagles a 36-33 lead at the end of three quarters. In the fourth quarter Oakdale extended the lead to nine points behind two buckets from Vince Croce and a tough driving three-point play by Kyle Carpenter. Poolesville was determined though and battled back to cut the lead to three behind three buckets from Zach Zapata. Then with 14 second left in the game, and Oakdale holding the three point lead, Carpenter stepped to the line and hit one of two free throws to give the Eagles a final score victory of 47-43. Poolesville did a good job defending Croce even though he led Oakdale with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Carpenter added 10 points. Tanner Mills played his best game of the year scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Juan Retana pitched in six points, but more impressively, dished out nine assists, swiped four steals, and turned the ball over only once. Oakdale was 4-for-16 from the foul line. Zapata had a strong game for Poolesville with 16 points and numerous rebounds. Spencer Barks added 10.
The Oakdale Eagles jayvee won a close contest over Poolesville 35-23. Poolesville was up by one at half; and the Eagles led by two after the third quarter. Strong defense by Isaiah Harper and Clay Allredge helped open up the game in the fourth quarter for Oakdale. Ben Bowman led the Eagles with 13 points, and Jacob Giangiuli had 6. Poolesville was led by Ean Addison with 6 points, Collin Turner with 5, and Zach Sneed with 3.
Mt.Airy varsity defeated St.John's 67-30. Mt.Airy was led by Ryan McTavish's 18 points, Jake Smith's 11 points, Logan Malane's 10 points, Ryan Wilkerson's eight points. St.John's was led by Trevor Wilke's 11 points, while Nick Kelley and Garrett Cook's added seven points each.
Mt.Airy jayvee defeated St.Johns 46-35. Both teams got off to a slow start as Mt.Airy led 4-0 at the end of the first quarter. The halftime score had Mt.Airy ahead 16-10. Mt.Airy extended the third quarter lead to eight, to lead 29-21 at the end of the third quarter. As both teams used full court pressure in the fourth quarter Mt.Airy out scored St.John's 17-14 for the victory. St.Johns was led by Robert Carova 15 points and Kyle Knapps seven points. While Ryan Tate tossed in 13 points, all in the second half, Chad Ringold six points and Gavin McTavish's 22.
The visiting MSD varsity came to play and crushed the home Folly Quarter Falcons - 45 to 27. MSD was ahead by twenty after the first quarter 23 to 3 and was never threatened. MSD was led by Todd Bonheyo who scored seventeen and Shawn Harrington who had sixteen. Harrington and Ethan Kramer were four for four from the free throw line. Jamie McEvoy led Folly Quarter scorers with eleven. Austin McWethy provided the home fans something to cheer about with great effort, hustle and rebounding.
In a closely contested jayvee game, FQ edged MSD 31 - 30 in overtime. FQMS jumped out to a lead and controlled the 1st half, 22 - 12. However, in the second half MSD came storming back from the deficit and took the lead late in the 4th quarter before FQMS tied the game. Blake Heuer provided the deciding points with a 3 pointer in overtime. Heuer lead FQMS with 12 points; all FQMS players scored with Jon Hogue adding 4 points. MSD had balanced scoring with Derek Frank, Jesse and Jerry Steingieser scoring 8 points each.
Windsor Knolls varsity defeats West Frederick 48 to 25. Windsor Knolls came out with a strong offense right from the start, beating the Cadets 25 to 7 at half time. High scorers for Windsor Knolls was William Duddleson with 16, Kyle Joyce with 15, Phillip Schmit with 7 Thomas Stuart with 5, John Chanatry with 3 and Shane Wilson with 2 pt, The Cadets struggled from the start, just not able to pull forward until the third quarter, high scorer for the Cadets was George Snowden with 10, Corey Droneburg with 6, Lakota Tow with 4 both Daniel Samick and Matthew Grimes with 2, Andrew Leishman added 1 point, for the final score of 48 Windsor Knolls 25 Frederick.
West Frederick jayvee jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first quarter, Charles Harvey led the Cadets with 4 pts. The Cadets continued to play tough defense in the second qt., and went into the half up by 13. Both teams continued to play hard in the 4th quarter with the Cadets coming out on top by a score of 48-26. Ryan Kennedy led all scorer with 14 pts, Jalen Gee had 9 pts, Tyler Pollard and Nigel Fender had 4 pts, Lashawn Naylor and Demore Townsend had 3, and Luke Witmer rounded out the scoring with 2 pts for the Cadets. Dan Deegan was high scorer for Windsor Knolls was Dan Deegan with 8 pts, Tucker Morgan chipped in with 6 pts.
Walkersville varsity 55 Urbana 34. Urbana came out strong behind red hot Dylan Gardner, who had 8 first quarter points including two rainbows from behind the arc to launch the visitors to a 19-14 first quarter lead. Dylan led Urbana with 14 points for the game. Nicholas Twilley of Urbana added 10 more for the visitors. But Walkersville pressure proved too much for the gritty Hawks in the end, as the Lions outscored the visitors 41-15 over the final three quarters, to secure the victory with a final score of 55-34. Lion James Hughes led all scorers with 15 points, and teammate Ricky Pardo added 8.
Jayvee - Urbana 39 Walkersville 29. Urbana jumped out quick and never looked back. Leading 23-14 at the half. Urbana's duo of Michael Madaras and James Jaworski proved too much to handle for the short handed Lions. They led all scorers with 14 and 13 points respectively. The Lions were led by Jacob Miller's 12 points and Jameson Detweiler adding 8 points.
Varsity - TJ 32 Glenwood 37. Glenwood's Erik Siegfreid scored 22 point carrying his team to victory. The big man prove to be too much for the Patriots. TJ held a 14-13 lead at the Half. Joe Atmonavage scored 13 for TJ. Glenwood held a 2 point lead going into the forth 25-23. Glenwood controlled the fourth period scoring 12 while TJ scored 9. TJ's Kelson Yearwood added 9 points.
JV - TJ 49 Glenwood 36. A much improve Patriot team keeps fighting it way thru the season. Ken Wims lead the way with 22 points off the bench. The score was knotted at 22 apiece going into intermission. Glenwoods Jeff Jacoby didn't back down as he finished with 19 points. The Patriot pulled away in the third with a 14-4 run. TJ Tyler Tremaine continues to improve.
Behind 28 points and 18 rebounds from Vince Croce the Oakdale varsity cruised to a 49-27 victory over visiting Folly Quarter. Juan Retana chipped in with six points, six steals and four assists. Bryon Plummer added six points. Jamie McEvoy paced Folly Quarter with nine points.
Jayvee - Folly Quarter 46 Oakdale 28. Follyly Quarter out rebounded and out scrapped the Oakdale JV squad in the second half to pull away in a close game early. Leading all scorers Michael Nicastro had 12 followed by Blake Heuer with 11. Ben Bowman had 11 for the Eagles.
The varsity Bulldogs had a hard fought contest with Mt. Airy after a very close first quarter where the bulldogs led at the end 18-12, and went into the half leading 34-22. Mt Airy didn't give up still fighting into the 3rd and cut the score 39-30. The Bulldogs went on to score 22 points in the 4th quarter to seal the victory. The Bulldogs won the contest with a score of 61-41. The Bulldogs were led by Konnor Gubler who had 17 points and Derek Macierowski chipped in nine points and Greg Shannon added 8 points and Arturo Gyles and Shocquille Giles each had seven points a piece. The Game High Scorer was from Mt Airy was Ryan McTavish who played an exceptional game with 21 points and Jake Phillips who added nine points and Jeff Martin had six points.
The jayvee Bulldogs defeated Mt Airy with a score of 51-33. The Bulldogs jumped out to an 19-2 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and never looked back. The Bulldogs were led by their big man John Cappolella who had 11 points and teammates Ernie Burrell added seven points and Mark Hoy had six points for the winners. Mt Airy was led by Gavin McTavish who had 10 points and Ryan Tate who added nine points.
Varsity - Brunswick 35 Crestwood 51. After a slow start, Crestwood's athleticism proved to be too much for Brunswick as the Cavaliers won the game 51-35. With only a one point lead after one quarter, Crestwood turned up the pressure to run out to a half time lead of 31-17. The Cavs never looked back as they cruised to victory. Andrew Rollins paced the Cav attack with 17 points. Charles Myers and Shakil Smith chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively. Ten different players scored for Brunswick with DeShaun Imes and CJ Shankle leading the way with six points each.
Brunswick's jayvee and Crestwood met tonight for the second time this season. Crestwood jumped out 13 to 3 in the first quarter. At the half Crestwood lead 26 to 8. The third Quarter Crestwood out scored Brunswick 14 to 9. The game ended with Crestwood winning 49 to 31 over Brunswick. The leading scorers for Brunswick were Ian Fisher with 12, Joseph Fawley had 5, Brandon Eyler & Thomas Stuckey had 3 each. For Crestwood the leading scorers were Zach Wathen with 14, Taylor Hyssong had 11 and Kevin Kidwell tossed in 7.
The Walkersville Lions varsity led from start to finish and defeated visiting Middletown 52-27, locking up first place in the Antietam division with the win. Walkersville was led by James Hughes with 11 points, with support from teammates Orlando Rosa and Ray Ferguson, each with 8 points for the Lions. Middletown played tough through-out, with Knight Chris Pirrone leading the offense with 9 points.
Jayvee - Middletown 41 Walkersville 27. Middletown's depth proved to be too much in this regular season rematch. Middletown led by only two at the half. The second half belonged to Middletown. The Knights used eight different scorers and outshot the Lions 28-16 in the second half for the victory. Middletown was led in scoring by Zack Fontenot's 9 points. The Lions were led in scoring by Jacob Miller's 7 points,
MSD varsity Boys defeated Catoctin with the score of 47 to 31. MSD used defense attacks and shut down Catoctin's offense which converted better offense for MSD in go-go offense plays. Todd Bonheyo led his team with 18 points and 6 assists. Ethan Kramer chipped in 10 points including 2 treys. Todd Rewolinski helped MSD team with 9 points. Shawn Harrington pumped up strong rebounds total of 13. In the fourth quarter, MSD boys stalled offense in last 4 minutes ensuring the victory. Nick Maxey scored 10 points for Catoctin.
The final score of javyee game was Catoctin, 27 MSD 24. It was an exciting game until Barker made a trey to give Catoctin leading by 5 points less that 2 minutes. This is a turning around the game for them. MSD led by Derek Frank with 8 points and Kyle Tharpe with 7 points, while Catoctin was led by Raughbaugh with 6 points and Barker with 5 points.
Glenwood would control the tempo of the game and the boards and beat Windsor Knolls 68-51. Colin Osborne had an outstanding game for Glenwood scoring 26 points and pushing the ball up the floor for easy transition baskets. Erik Siegfried helped limit the Hawks to one shot and also chipped in 18, while Scott Dziwulski added 13. Kyle Joyce and Will Duddleson each had 20 points for the Hawks.
The Hawks' Justin Ailstock exploded for 17 first quarter points as the Hawks raced to a 21-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Ailstock hit from all areas of the floor including two 3 pointers-one from mid court as the first period ended. The Hawks strong defensive pressure and good rebounding ignited numerous fast breaks resulting in a 57-39 victory. Ten players on the Hawks got into the scoring led by Ailstocks game high 25. Ervin Liang penetrated Glenwoods zone hitting foul line jump shots and finished with 10 points. Dan Degan contributed 6. The defense was keyed by the aggressive play of Riley Spain and Tucker Morgan. Jeffrey Jacoby had an outstanding game for Glenwood with excellent drives to the basket and finished with 15. Anthony Arnette contributed 7.
Urbana's jayvee opened up a commanding 16-1 first quarter lead and never looked back as they defeated Poolesville's Jayvees by a final score of 51-21. James Jaworski scored 12 points to lead the Hawks. Teammates Matt Lane (nine points) and Mike Madaras (seven points) also made major contributions in the win. Ean Hill-Addison scored six points and Bill Cartwright added five points for Poolesville.
Poolesville's varsity returned the favor by beating Urbana's Varsity Boys by a final score of 45-28. The Falcon's inside tandem of Spencer Barks (14 points) and Zach Zapata (12 points) led all scorers. Nicolas Flanders (seven points) and Blake Gatewood (six points) provided the scoring punch for the Hawks.
Varsity - Glenwood 76 St Johns 26. Leading Scorers- Glenwood- #23 Driwulski (18) St Johns Kelly (9). Others with 10 or more- Glenwood-#5 Osborne (15) #4 Lepage (14) #15 Siegfred (10). Glenwood used a balance scoring attack with some great shooting to blow the game open early on. St Johns could get on track and was not shooting well to boot. Glenwood had a big size advantage and used it to their benefit.
Jayvee - Glenwood 32 - St. John's 23. St. John's came out fighting and led after the 1st Quarter 3-2. In the 2nd quarter Glenwood went up by 9 and ended the half with a 14-5 lead. St. John's fought back in the 3rd and was outscored by Glenwood 6-5 to trail 20-10 going into the 4th quarter. St. John's then went 7-9 at the foul-line and scored 13 points in the 4th Quarter. Glenwood hit a couple of shots to keep pace but St. John's closed the lead to 9 points and lost the game 32-23. Glenwood was lead by Michael D'Ambrosio with 10 points and Matthew Smith with 5 points. St. John's was lead by Phillip Reese with 6 points and 7 rebounds and Travis Deckert and Zach Roskowinski with 3 points each.
In a fast paced, up tempo game, Mt. Airy's varsity pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the host Folly Quarter Falcons - 50 to 42. Almost the entire hard fought twenty eight minutes was played with neither team having more than a five point lead. While a great team effort was given by the entire Mt. Airy team, Ryan Mctavish was just simply outstanding. Mctavish finished with twenty seven points including eleven in the decisive fourth quarter. Folly Quarter's Michael Arensmeier actually played Mctavish well all of the night before fouling out - making Mctavish show off his great jump shot but Mctavish kept making them. Assisting Mctavish on the press were Jake Phillips, Ryan MacIvor, Jeff Martin and Logan Malane who combined for eighteen points. Folly Quarter was led by Scott Heydrick who had fifteen points. Arensmeier and Jamie McEvoy each had seven points and Zach Scott chipped in with six points for the home Falcons.
Using pressure defense and good passing Folly Quarter defeated Mt. Airy 61 - 41 to clinch the Piedmont Division. FQMS shot well from the outside but it was good inside work highlighted by James Wood's excellent rebounding and defense that kept Mt.Airy in catch-up mode most of the night. Mt. Airy was led by Gavin McTavish with 14 points while Ryan Tate and Chad Ringold added 7 and 6 points respectively. FQMS had every player score with Blake Heuer leading all scorers with 17 points while Logan Dubbe added 11 and Davis Grove 9 points.
Crestwood's varsity jumped out to a quick 10-point lead in the first quarter against Poolesville's Varsity. The home team answered by outscoring Crestwood 16-7 in the second period to force a tie at the halfway point. No team had a lead greater than four points after that until the Cavaliers went on a 10-2 run in the last four minutes to seal a 59-48 win over the Falcons. Trayvon Hoy was unstoppable at times and finished with 22 points. Teammate Andrew Rollins also contributed 13 points. Spencer Barks led Poolesville with 20 points before fouling out and Zach Zapata came on strong in the second half for the Falcons with 16 points total.
Crestwood's jayvees got all they could handle from a tough Poolesville squad as they clung to nothing greater than a four-point margin for much of the first half. Two strong runs late in the first half and into the third quarter would be all the Cavaliers would need, however, as Crestwood cruised to victory over the home standing Falcons by a final score of 51-25. The Cavs finished with a balanced scoring effort as four players---Zach Wathen (13 points), Kevin Kidwell and Dante Snowden (nine points each), and Taylor Hyssong (eight points)---did most of the damage. Poolesville was led by Collin Turner and Dylan Bourque with nine points each.

The second quarter saw the much of the same as the Mustangs went into the half leading 25 -11. The Patriots open the 3rd quarter with a mini run behind the shooting of Brian Chase six points and Joe Atmonavage five points, that cut the Mustang's lead to nine points but that's as close as the Patriots would get, as Monocacy expanded its lead to 42 - 26 to end the 3rd quarter. Scoring for the Mustangs where Connor Joos, 20 points, LaMont Wims 17 points (eight assists), Jacob Park six points (7 rebounds), Deandre Scott Six points ( six rebounds), and Treyvon Randolph two points (four steals). Scoring for the Patriots where Brian Chase seven point, Joe Atmonavage seven points, Kelson Yearwood nine points, Danny Missotti three points, Matthew Lawrence two points, and Jordan Dawson four points.

In a very tight varsitycontest Windsor Knolls won on a buzzer beater from Kyle Joyce 45-43. Linganore held an early lead at the end of the first quarter 9-7 but Windsor Knolls went into halftime with a 25-22 lead. Windsor Knolls kept their lead until Ryan Santmyer sank a 3 point shot to tie the score at 43-43 with 15 seconds left. Kyle Joyce then took an inbounds pass and got off a 15 foot shot from the corner to win the game at the buzzer. Windsor Knolls was led by Kyle Joyce 20 points and Phillip Schmidt with 13 points. In an exciting game the JV Hawks beat the Lancers by a score of 49-44. The Hawks made the most of the 19-8 foul advantage by making 9 of 12 free throws in the 4th quarter. The Hawks were led in scoring by Evin Liang who had 15 points, and Justin Ailstock who had 10, but the leaders of the team were guards Tucker Morgan and Riley Spain who kept the Lancers off balance with their slashing moves to the basket. The Linganore team was led in scoring by Clay Conner who finished with 10 points.
Brunswick hosted Urbana on Sunday and came out with a 48-34 varsity win. Brunswick jumped out to a 9-2 first quarter lead and Urbana closed the gap to make it 13-12 Brunswick at the half. Deshaun Imes got hot in the third quarter for Brunswick and stretched the lead to 36-25 at the end of the third quarter. Brunswick outscored Urbana 12-9 in the final quarter for a 14 point victory. Matt Wanger led Brunswick with 12 points and healthy dose of boards, Deshaun Imes had 11 and Anthony Chapouris 8. For Urbana, Patrick Walsh had a strong game with 7 points and Nicholas Twilley had 10.
The final score of the jayvee game was Brunswick with 26 Urbana 52. The leading Scorer from Brunswick was Geoffrey Davis with six. James Jaworski led Urbana with 12 points for the hawks.
Catoctin defeated Folly Quarter 51-30 in varsity action. Catoctin was in complete control throughout the game. Aggressive pressure combined with strong rebounding resulted in numerous fast-break points. High scorer for the game was Catoctin's Nick Maxey with 16 points. Austin Carter added 13 points including three three-point shots. Patrick O'Brien and Landon Routzahn scored six points each. Nick Maxey and Nick Krstanovic played a strong defensive game. Folly Quarter's Scott Heydrick scored 14 points. Austin McWethy added eight points while Michael Arensmeier added three points.
Catoctin's jayvees pulled off an upset of Folly Quarter and evened the season series with a 55-41 victory at home. The Cougars put together an all-around team effort, dishing out 16 assists and grabbing 34 rebounds to pull away in the first half. Folly Quarter mounted a come-back in the second half but Catoctin pulled away in the fourth quarter with solid penetration on offense and tenacious defense. Josh Laramore led all scorers with 14 points. Aaron Baker added 12 points for the Cougars, followed by Garrett Sprankle with 9 points, Tyler Smith with 8 and Brad Little with 6. Catoctin's front court of Ryan Delauter, Tyler Smith, Brad Little and Michael Fairley kept the bigger Folly Quarter front court at bay. Harlan Lawson dished out a team high six assists and Garrett Sprankle grabbed a team high eight rebounds. Guards TJ Raubaugh, Alex Kennedy and Troy Hauck added key contributions with aggressive drives to the baskets and dishes. Folly Quarter was led by Logan Dudde with 13 points. Blaker Heuer added another 8 points, followed by Davis Grove and James Wood with 7 points each.
Ballenger Creek's varsity defeated West Frederick 46-29. Ballenger played a strong defense and put on the pressure from the start. High scorer for the Cadets was Sky Baron with 14 pts, George Snowden with 6 Corey Droneburg had 4 pts, both Lakota Tow and Matthew Grimes added 2 pts each while Daniel Samick added 1. High scorer for Ballenger was Konner Grubler with 14 pts, Derik Mecierowski added 12 pts, both Brandon Willett and Arturo Gyles added 6, while Shoc Giles added 5 pts.
West Frederick came into the game looking to avenge its only lost of the season. In the first quarter, West Frederick jumped out to an early 8-3 lead. At the end of the second quarter, Ballenger creeks Ernie Burrell hit a last second shot to pull Ballenger to within 9 pts at the half. 20-11 In the third quarter Ballenger went on a big run in the third quarter, Erine Burrell scored 10 of Ballengers 14 pts to cut the lead to 7 pts. In the fourth quarter the Cadets took control of the game, they began pushing the ball up the court and getting to the free throw line. Ernie Burrell led Ballenger with 14 pts, John Cappolelle had 8. The Cadets top scorer was Ryan Kennedy with 15 pts, Connor Corbitt with 8 Jalen Gee scored 7 and Nigel Fender scored6. The final score was 45-37.
Varsity - TJ 33 Linganore 16. The varsity Pats and Lancers were locked into a defensive game with TJ holding a 9-3 lead after one. TJ increased the lead to 10 at intermission 19-9. Brian Chase was the leading scorer for the Pats with 9 points. TJ held Linganore to 7 second half points while scoring 14. Jimmy Dickson added 6 for the Pats. Ryan Santmyer had 6 point for Linganore.
JV TJ 40 Linganore 45. In a well played game Linganore out dueled TJ down the stretch. TJ jumped to a 10-6 lead after the first period. The Lancers came back in the second period to tie the game at the half 14 apiece. Both teams were in early foul trouble with key players. The Lancers were lead by Lucas Jackson who started the second half with 4 fouls. He hit 3 -three pointer in the 3rd period and finished the game with 14 points. The Lancers hit 5 three pointer as a team in the 3rd period opening up a 36-27 lead to start the fourth. TJ's Tyler Tremaine with by far his best outing finished with 14 points. The Pats closed the lead to 3, but could not get any closer as L went on to win. Despite early foul trouble, TJ's Jerel English added 9 points.
Glenwood varsity defeated Mt.Airy 70-57. Leading at the end of the first quarter 18-9 Glenwood extended the halftime lead by 13, to lead at the half 38-27. Mt.Airy was able to cut the lead to 5 at the end of the third period trailing 50-45. Glenwood then outscored Mt.Airy by ten in the fourth quarter to seal the Glenwood victory . Glenwood had all their players score, leading the way was Eric Siegried 23, Colin Osborne 21, Brendon McMahon eight, Zach Lapage six, and Danny Napolitano,Scott Dziwalski and Nathan Gorey four points each. Mt.Airy was led by Jake Phillips 12, Ryan McTavish's 22 and Jeff martin added six points while Logan Malane, David Mellstrom and Jake Smith each had four points.
Glenwood jayvee defeated Mt.Airy jayvee 47-41. Led by Anthony Arnette's 15 points and Joseph Tolbert's and Matthew Hughes 13 points each. Glenwood led at the half 22-20 and at the end of the third period 35-32. Joe Tolbert 4-4 from the foul line late in the fourth quarter sealed the game for the visitors. Ryan Tate had a game high 17 points for the bulldogs.
The visiting Walkersville varsity jumped out to a ten point halftime lead over Oakdale behind strong perimeter defense and balanced scoring, 24-14. The two teams played evenly in the second half as Walkersville cruised to a 42-33 victory. Eight players scored for Walkersville led by James Hughes with 11. Vince Croce paced the Eagles with 22 points and 18 rebounds.
Jayvee - Walkersville 43 Oakdale 33. Close game the whole way. Walkersville controlled the glass and were pretty good from the charity strip to hang on and claim the victory. High scorers for Walkersville were Jacob Miller with 17 and Matt Guyton with 8. Leading scorers for Oakdale were Ben Bowman with 12 and Julian Coiner with 8.
Varsity- Poolesville 40 St Johns 21. Leading Scorers- Poolesville- Zach Zapata 8 St Johns- Nick Kelly 8. Leading Rebounders- Zach Zapata 5 Gabe Sherman 6. Poolesville used its size advantage to grab the lead and hold onto it. The lead was 6 at the half, then 16 after 3 quarters, and then 19 to finish. St Johns shot poorly the entire game and that did not help their own cause. St Johns gave a good effort but gave up too many easy baskets to Poolesville which goes 6'5 and 6'3 up front.
Poolesville's jayvees held off St. John's. Game was tied 5-5 after the first quarter. In second quarter Poolesville went up by 4 and ended the half with a 11-7 lead. St. John's fought back in the 3rd and outscored Poolesville 9-6 to trail 17-16 going into the fourth quarter. St. John's then took the lead 23-20 with 4 minutes remaining. Poolesville got hot and hit three 3-pointers in a row to take the game 32-23. Poolesville was lead by Collin Turner with 19 points and Dylan Bourque with 10 points. St. John's was lead by Travis Deckert with 8 points and AJ Kenworthy with 5.
Middletown's varsity defeated West Frederick 48-45. In a hard fought first half, Middletown made a second quarter run and led 28-22 at the half. West Frederick was led by Sky Baron 10 points in the half and Colin VanWorkhoven led the Knights with 9 points. West Frederick tied the score at 28-28 early in the third quarter. From that point, a see-saw battle ensued between the two teams. Late in the fourth quarter, Jesse Miller sank a short jump shot to break a 40-40 tie. With the Knights up two with 20 seconds in the game Middletown's Ben Gessell came up with a crucial rebound for the Knights. Gessell went on to make the front end of an one and one and the Knights went on for their first victory of the season. Sky Baron led Cadets with 21 points and Matthew Grimes added 9. Chris Pirrone led the Knights with 21 and Colin VanWorkhoven chipped in nine.
The West Frederick jayvee squad showcased a well run 3-2 zone defense and gave the Middletown Knight sharp shooters a fit all game long in a 43-32 win. West Frederick’s Ryan Kennedy was the star of the game with 14 points and some clutch foul shooting down the stretch. Frederick's ball handling and up-tempo pace was outstanding all day long. In a losing effort Zack Fontenot netted 11 points for the Knights with Ben Lewis chipping in 8.
The Oakdale varsity came to Brunswick and used a strong inside-outside game to beat Brunswick 51-38. Kyle Carpenter hit 6 three point shots and scored 20 points and Vince Croce owned the boards and finished with 18 for Oakdale. Matt Wanger had 10 points for Brunswick.

Walkersville's varsity looked like they were going to pull a easy win out of Poolesville as they opened up a 14-point lead late in the first half of their match-upon Sunday. Poolesville stormed back to tie the game late in the 3rd quarter at 29-all. The Lions countered with a run of their own as they inished up the game on a 18-7 tear to beat the Falcons by a final score of 47-36. Walkersville's James Hughes tied for game-high scoring honors as he finished with 18 points. Ten players in all scored for the team-oriented Lions. The Poolesville "twin tower" combo of Zach Zapata and Spencer Barks scored 18 and 14 points, respectively.
Walkersville's jayvee opened up a 12-point first half lead and expanded it the rest of the way as they beat Poolesville by a final score of 40-22. Nine players ended up scoring for the visiting Lions. They were led by Jacob Miller with nine points and Jameson Detweiler and Lucas Tucker with six points each. Ean Hill-Addison came up big for Poolesville by scoring nine points. Erik Jansson was a force on the boards for the Falcons and finished with four points and eight rebounds.
Crestwood's varsity raced to a 20-6 first quarter lead beat Urbana 56-29. Trayvon Hoy scored 10 first half points and finished with 12 for Crestwood. Shakil Smith-Cain chipped in with 9 points as 7 other players scored for the winners. Patrick Walsh also had 12 points for the Hawks and Nick Twilley scored all 7 of his points before intermission.
Jayvee - Urbana 51, Crestwood 28. The Hawks jumped out to an early lead, but Crestwood played tough and kept the game close through halftime and trailed 24-17. The Hawks picked up their defense in the second half and were able to gradually extend their lead. Urbana was led in scoring by Thomas Utt and James Jaworski with 12 points each and Kyler Rose added 10 points. Taylor Hyssong did a nice job of running the offense for Crestwood and ended the game with 7 points. Zach Wathen also had 7 points and Bryan Cook chipped in 6 points.
Monocacy varsity defeats Catoctin 55-31. The Mustangs scored the first 10 points of the game and held a 15 to 2 lead after one quarter and never looked back as they where paced in scoring by Connor Joos 14 points, Darryl Sanders Six points, Lamont Wims five points, Jacob Park, DeAndre Scott, Treyvon Randolph, Kyle Morse, Drew Gilson scoring four each, Cory Abram, Joshua Messinger, Devin Drummond, Calvin Daniels, and Evan Campbell scorced two points. The Cougars where led in scoring by Nick Krstanovic 9 points (three of four from the free throw line), Nick Maxey 8 points (six of 12 from the free throw line), Landon Routzahn, Roberto Alvarez, Ben Tylicki for point each and Eric Hobbs two points.
Monocacy jayvee defeats Catoctin 52-23. Monocacy jumped out to a 18 - 7 first quarter lead behind tough full court pressure and the scoring of Jordan Yarbough and Paul Mclister who both scored five points each in the quarter. Yarbough led all scorers with 10 points, followed by Michael Skovorak 9 points, Paul McLister seven points, Carney Bernard seven points, and Damyon Richardson five points. Catoctin was lead in scoring by Josh Laramore five points, Tyler Smith four points and Harlan Lawson four points.
Varsity - TJ 52 Windsor Knolls 32. The TJ Patriots, led by Joe Atmonavage with 13 points, would cruise to a 52-32 over Windsor Knolls. Using full court pressure to create turnovers for easy baskets, and a strong effort on the offensive boards the Patriots build a 16 point lead in the first half and get scoring contributions from 7 different players in the second half to easily beat the Hawks on there home floor. DJ Ansboro scored 8 points and Matthew Lawrence added 6 for the Patriots. Will Duddleson was high scorer for the Hawks with 16 and Kyle Joyce added 8.
A much improved Patriots jayvee squad played an aggressive zone defense but the Hawks held on for a 45-39 victory. Justin Ailstock and Tyler Termaine battled hard all night on the boards. Ailstock sealed the win with a clutch shot with 24 seconds to go in the game after the Patriots had cut the lead to 2 points. He finished with 12 hard earned points. Dan Deegan for the Hawks had an outstanding game leading all scorers with 19 points -attacking the zone with drives and jump shots the entire game. The Patriots got outstanding efforts from Jerel English-10 points, and Kendle Pitts and Bradley Helis with 8 each.
Ballenger Creek came out and dominated Linganore's varsity in the second half to take a decisive 57-35 victory. The game was very close throughout the first half with Ballenger Creek taking a 20-15 halftime lead. Ballenger Creek was led by Arturo Gyles with 20 points and Derek Macierowski’s 13 points. Linganore was led by Alex Anwar with 18 points.
Ballenger Creek jayvee 59 Linganore 49. The Bulldogs withstood an early scare as the Lancers jumped off to an early lead in an exciting match up. The Bulldogs, led by Mark Hoy's 20 points, pulled away from the Lancers thanks to some great free throw shooting down the stretch (13 of 17). Before the Lancers were saddled with their foul troubles it was an extremely close 5 point game well into the 4th quarter. The Bulldog's John Cappolella was quiet in the first half but when the Lancers had some foul difficulties in the second half he was able to finish with 14 points. The Lancers were led by Ryan Hall's 20 points and 8 rebounds.

St Johns played even in the 3rd quarter (6 to 6) and then lost the last quarter by 5- for a total final score of 47-25. St Johns played hard in the 2nd half but was in too big of a hole to dig out.
Folly Quarter jayvee team jumped out to a 19 to 11 half time lead over St. John's. In the second quarter St. John's battled hard and out scored Folly Quarter 9 to 4. The last Quarter Folly Quarter out scored St. John's 12 to 2. The final score was Folly Quarter 42-St. John's 15. The high scorers for Folly Quarter were, David Grove 14 points and Blake Heuer with 7 points . For St. John's the high scorers were, AJ Kenworthy with 5 points. Travis Deckert and Phillip Reese with 2 points and EJ Wresinski with 3 points.
Varsity TJ 50 West Frederick 26. A 17-8 run in the second period gave TJ a 29-18 lead at intermission. Joe Atmonavage scored 19 point for the Pats. The Pats limited the Cadets to 8 points in the second half. Sean Nelson added 8 point for TJ. Sky Baron scored 12 of his team high 16 for the Cadets. TJ out scored West Frederick 21-8 the second half. Sean Nelson and Brian chase played excellant defense for TJ.
JV TJ 29 West Frederick 46. Nigel Fender and Conner Corbitt both had 14 points for West frederick. West Frederick had a 25-16 lead at intermission. Tyler Tremaine scored 10 points for TJ. TJ tried to make a run in the second half, but the Cadets size was too much for a small TJ team. The score was 31-19 Cadets after the third period.
Linganore varsity defeated Mt.Airy 35-28. Linganore led at the end of the first quarter 11-10 and out scored Mt.Airy by a basket for the next three quarters for the victory. Linganore was led by Ryan Santmyer's 14 points and Mt.Airy was led by Ryan McTavish's 14 points. Linganore improves to 8-6 while Mt.Airy falls to 6-8.
Linganore jayvee defeated Mt.Airy 58-47 behind some long rage shooting. Linganore connected on 6 three pointers and was 11-20 from the foul line. Mt.Airy had 3 three pointers and was 5-15 from the foul line. Jumping to an early 19-13 first quarter lead Linganore used full court pressure to keep an up temp game. Linganore extended the halftime lead to 34-22. With both team scoring 15 points in the third quarter Linganore led 48-37 at the end of the third quarter. Linganore was led by Ryan Hall's 13, Matt Freibaum 10 and Clay Conner and Luke Jackson eight points . Mt.Airy was led by Gavin McTavish's 16 points, Chad Ringolds 13 points and Jack Quinn and Ryan Tate each had seven points.
The Oakdale Varsity backcourt combined for 31 first half points and very good pressure defense to lead the Eagles to a 40-14 half time lead. The Eagles then coasted to a 57-39 victory. Kyle Carpenter led the Eagles with 17 points and three steals. Bryon Plummer added 11 points. Juan Retana added six points, seven assists, four steals, and no turnovers from the point guard spot. Niko Crawford pulled down seven rebounds for the victors. Jesse Miller and Chris Pirrone led the Knights with nine points each. Colin VanWerkhoven added eight points.
JV - Oakdale 26 Middletown 65. Oakdale took an early first quarter lead and then constant pressure from the defense of Middletown caused havoc on the Oakdale offense. Middletown went into half time with a 44-11 lead. Third quarter was played even, Oakdale hung tough scoring even with Middletown, but with only a 5 point fourth quarter Oakdale fell well short of a comeback. Leading all scorers was Middletown's Ben Lewis with 15 followed by Zach Fontentot with 13. Ben Bowman lead Oakdale ballers with 10, Nick Preston had 5 and Conner Mills added 6 second half points on three of three from the field.
The Windsor Knolls varsity Hawks go 9 for 10 from the foul line in the final minute of the fourth quarter to pull out a very close, evenly played game to get the victory against MSDm 52-43. The Hawks Will Duddleson, 16 points, and MSD's Todd Bonheyo, 18 points, would both have strong first halves, with the Hawks Holding a slight edge at 22-20. Each team would have the lead in the third period, with the Hawks still holding that two point advantage to start the fourth. The game stayed close until the end and Phillip Schmidt, 11 points, would go six for six from the charity stripe in the final minute to help Windsor Knolls pull out the victory. Kyle Joyce also had 11 points for the Hawks. Todd Rewolinski and Shawn Harrington would chip in nine each for MSD.
The jayvee Hawks started strong racing to a 15-5 1st quarter lead but MSD came back outscoring the Hawks 12-6 in the second quarter to pull within 3 at the half-21-17. The Hawks picked up the defensive pressure that ignited their fast break, scoring 20 points in the 3rd quarter to take control of the game in route to a 49-29 victory. The Hawks were lead by Justin Ailstock and Dan Deegan with 12 Tucker Morgan with 10 and Ervin Liang with 7. The Hawks Riley Spain and Riley Tyeryar applied the defensive pressure that helped seal the win. MSD's Jessie Steingieser had an outstanding game leading all scorers with 16 points with a strong inside game.
In the Howard County match up between Glenwood and Folly Quarter, Glenwood's varsity came away with a 60 to 39 win at Glenelg High School to remain undeated in the Peidmont division and 9 and 4 overall. Folly Quarter fell to 2 and 4 in the Piedmont divisino and 3 and 10 overall. Glenwood's lead remained in the single digits until Follly Quarter's team leader, Michael Arensmeir, who finished with 7 points, fouled out in the third quarter. Glenwood's balanced attack was lead by Colin Osborne's 16 points and 8 rebounds. Brendan McMahon added 14 points and 6 steals for the winners while Danny Napolitano ran the point and added 12 points and 6 assists. Scott Dziwulski added 8. For Folly Quarter, in addition to Arensmeir's 7 points, Zack Scott scored 12, including 2 fourth quarter 3 pointers, while Jamie McEvoy hit for 8.
Jayvee - Glenwood 39 Folly Quarter 48. High scorers for Glenwood were Anthony Arnette with 12 and Jeffrey Jacoby with 9. High scorers for Folley Quarter were Blake Hener with 14 and Michael Nienstio with 9. Tonights game was a tough battle between the top two teams. Folley Quarter led most of the game with Glenwood keeping close behind until the final quarter.
The Varsity Mustangs jumped out to a 13-7 and took the lead going into the half at 29-21. The Mustangs went up by 9 in the fourth and the Bulldogs cut it to 3 with about a minute to play but a turnover hurt them and the Mustangs got the ball the Bulldogs were forced to foul. The Mustangs won the game with a score of 56-48. The Mustangs were led by DeAndre Scott who was game high scorer with 19 points and Connor Joos chipped in 11 points and Evan Campbell added 10 points for the winners. The Bulldogs were led by their Big Man Derek Macierowski who had 15 points and Arturo Gyles and Shoquille Giles both had 12 points a piece for the Bulldogs.
The JV Bulldogs defeated Monocacy with a score of 54-41. The first two quarters were close with the Bulldogs jumping to an 10-6 lead after the first and and going into the half leading 21-16. The Bulldogs were led by the game high scorer Mark Hoy who had 15 points and teamates Ernie Burrell and John Cappolella each added nine points for the winners. Monocacy was led by Jordan Yarborough and Michael Omelchenko who had eight points a piece for the Mustangs.
The first quarter was close in favor of MT. Airy with the score of 10 to 8. MT. Airy led the game all the way to the final buzzer with the score of 44 to 22. MT. Airy's defense was very good and aggressive to limit MSD Varsity's scoring. MSD committed 24 turnovers. Randy McTavish (14 points) and Jake Phillips (11 points including two treys) combined 25 points together for the winning team. Shawn Harrington scored 14 points for the losing team.
MSD jayvee team jumped out to 24-11 lead over Mt. Airy during the halftime. In 3rd quarter, Mt. Airy took advantage that our Post player, Jesse Steingieser had a foul trouble and had to sit for some minutes, they outscored us by 8-2. Also, they did a good job to cause MSD some turnovers, but we did a great defense against Mt. Airy, especially with our boards as well as Jesse returned to the game and also, MSD beat Mt Airy's full press , even though MSD had some turnovers. Kyle Tharpe had an outstanding game, scoring 14 points and 6 rebounds. Jesse Steingieser led MSD with 15 points and 16 rebounds, while James played a great defense on Mt. Airy, the best player, Gavin McTavish, who scored 2 points only. For Mt. Airy's the high scores were, Chad Ringold with12 points and Ryan Tate with 6 points.
Following an overtime JV game, the Walkersville and Brunswick Varsity squads entertained the crowd with an extra round exhibition of their own, with the Lions prevailing 46 - 42 in a battle of free throws down the stretch The Lions were 9 for 11 in the extra period, with Orlando Rosa going 5 for 6 from the charity stripe in the OT session, while Xavier Stewart was 2 for 2 and Ray Ferguson was 2 for 3. James Hughes had 9 points to share the Lion scoring lead with Xavier Stewart, including a dramatic jump shot at the buzzer to extend the game an extra 3 minutes. Quentin Ezell added 8 for the Lions. But the scoring threat in this game was Railroader Anthony Chapouris, who led all scorers with 19 points, with 2 threes, slashing drives, and a perfect 5 for 5 from the free throw line including 2 for 2 in OT. Eight of his points were in the 4th period as Brunswick positioned itself to try and clinch the win. Teammate Stephen McCallum added 6 point for the visitors.
JV - Brunswick 45 Walkersville 42 (OT) Revenge was sweet for Brunswick this night. After trailing 24-19 at the half and 31-24 after three. Brunswick, led by Ian Fisher's 8 points in the fourth, took the Lions to overtime then finished them off. Walkersville defense calapsed in the fourth quarter. Ian Fisher led all scorers with 15. Collin Nusbaum added 10 for the winners. Th Lions were led in scoring by Matt Hawkins (12) while Matt Guyton chipped in 7 points.
Poolesville defeated Middletown 39-23 in varsity action. In the first half, Poolesville was led by an dominate inside performance by Zack Zapata with 15 points in the half. Poolesville led 23-8 at half. In the second half, Middletown made a serious run with pressure defense cutting the lead to 6 points. However, the Knights were not able to sustain the effort and Poolesville went on to victory. Poolesville was led by Zack Zapata with 21 points and Chris Pirrone led the Knights with seven points.
The Middletown jayvee Knights held off a late game comeback and were able to secure a 44-37 victory over Poolesville. Ben Lewis led the Knights with 12 points, Michael Pritts netted ten and Jack Panther seven in the victory. Poolesville was paced by Brandon Carney and Collin Turner who each scored 12 in the loss. The Knights improved to 10-2.
Monocacy varsity defeated Mt.Airy 59-41. Monocacy opened a first quarter lead 19-7 using full court pressure to get some lay ups. Scott DeAndre scored 13 of his 17 points and Joos Conner scored 14 of his 23 points in the first half to give Monocacy a 34-16 lead at the half. Ryan McTavish led the Mt. Airy with 25 points.
Monocacy jayvee defeated Mt.Airy 41-39. Monocacy had ten players score with Anthony Dowdy leading the way with 10 points. Paul McLister added nine points. Monocacy opened a first quarter lead of 9-7 and led at the half 19-12. Mt.Airy outscored Monocacy by eight in the third, 15-8 to take 27-26 lead into the fourth quarter. With four seconds to play Monocacy made the second shot of a two shot foul to take a two point lead. Mt.Airy's long in bounds pass was stolen to end the game. Mt.Airy was led by Chad Ringold's 11 points and Gavin McTavish's 17 points.
Catoctin defeated St. John's 63-44 in varsity play. Catoctin played an up-tempo pace which enabled the Cougars to use the full-court press effectively. On offense, Catoctin's strong rebounding game and points in the paint proved to be the difference in the game. Leading scorer and rebounder for the game was Catoctin's Nick Maxey with 24 points. Cougar's Ben Tylicki had an aggressive offensive game which led to 19 points. Additionaly, center Nick Krstanovic added 10 points in the fourth quarter and helped to control the glass. Roberto Alvarez applied pressure defense which led to Catoctin's fast-break points. For St. John's, Gabe Sherman led the team with 21 points. Trevor Wilks added two three-pointers, followed by Nick Kelly with five points.
Catoctin Jayvees defeated St. John's 37 to 17. Catoctin steadily pulled away from St. John's at the end of the first half and beginning of the second with a steady drive and dish offense against St. John's man-to-man. Catoctin had 14 assists in the game with TJ Raubaugh leading the team with five assists. Brad Little had a team high eight rebounds and provided a spark at the end of the first half with a key assist and a strong basket to help expand what to that point was a fairly narrow lead. Harlan Lawson led Catoctin with five steals and Garrett Sprankle had another fine all-around performance with six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Ryan Delauter from Catoctin led all scorers with seven points, followed by TJ Raubaugh and Harlan Lawson with five points each. Kyle Knapp led St. John's with five points, followed by Phillip Reese and Bobby Ordonio with four points each.
Linganore varsity jumped out to a 14-8 first quarter lead and never looked back as they defeated Folly Quarter 49-33. Linganore again had nine different players score and were led by Michael Wirtz 13 points and Matt Fratto's defense and 11 points. Folly Quarter was led by Scott Heydrick who had 12 points and Zach Scott with 11 points on 3 three point shots.
Behind Blake Heuer's 20 points the Folly Quarter JV team beat the host Lancers by a score of 43-30. The Lancers were led by Clay Conner's 12 points. The game was close until the 4th quarter when the Folly Quarter team pulled ahead using a late surge that include some very sloppy play by the Lancers.
Mt.Airy varsity defeated Catoctin 53-50. Mt.Airy open a first quarter lead 13-8, led by Ryan McTavish's six points, finishing with a game high 17 points. Mt.Airy was unable to hold the lead in the second quarter. Led by Justin Tomasini seven points in the quarter, Catoctin out scored Mt.Airy by nine to take a 24-20 lead into the half. Catoctin extended the lead to nine to end the third quarter 42-33, with Ben Tylicki getting 10 of his 13 points in the quarter. With under three minutes to play and a ten point lead Catoctin seemed in control. Mt.Airy kept battling and took the lead with less than one minute to play. Some key foul shots by David Mellstrom down the stretch, finishing with seven points, gave Mt.Airy the lead by three. With eight seconds to play and on the line, Mt.Airy could seal the game but a missed free throw was rebounded by Catoctin's Landon Routzahn, who pushed the ball up the sideline and fired a three pointer as time expired, the ball hit the rim and bounced off. Routzahn led the scoring for Cacoctin with 14 points, while Nick Maxey contributed nine points. Jeff Martin playing an all around good game finished with 12 points and Jake Phillips chipped in nine points for Mt.Airy.
Mt.Airy jayvee defeated Catoctin 52-47. Catoctin opened an 11-0 lead to start the game, Kyle MacIvor got the scoring started for Mt.Airy with a lay up with four minutes to go in the first period, he finished with three points. A three pointer for Catoctin at the buzzer ended the first quarter with Catoctin ahead 15-8. Mt.Airy cut the seven point first quarter lead to three by half time. Catoctin held the lead through three quarters 35-31. Mt.Airy outscored Catoctin in the fourth quarter by nine to take the game. Catoctin was led by some good shooting from Josh Lamore, 13 points, three 3 pointers and Garrett Sprankle 12 points, two 3 pointers. For Mt.Airy, Nic Cimino had a strong game on the boards and finished with four points, Chad Ringold had eight points, Ryan Tate nine points, Carson Dugstad 10 points and Gavin McTavish 18 points.
The Poolesville varsity controlled the game from the start to gain its seventh win of the season vs. Folly Quarter - 46 to 30. Poolesville's two six footers, Zach Zapata and Spencer Barks, were too much for the undersized Falcons. Zapata led Poolesville with sixteen points and Barks had an equally great game with thirteen points. Folly Quarter had all their players score and was led by Jamie McEvoy with eight points.
Using a good half-court pressure defense, the Folly Quarter JV team beat Poolesville's JV squad 47 -36. The game was tied midway through the second quarter until FQMS executed a few fast breaks to take a halftime lead of 22 - 13. FQMS increased their lead in the 3rd quarter again running the floor well but Poolesville fought back in the 4th quarter with some good outside shooting including some three pointers. FQMS was led by Blake Heuer with 17 points while Michael Nicastro added 12. Poolesville's Collin Turner had 11 while Brendan Carney added 9 to lead their scoring.
Walkersville defeated Crestwood in a thrilling varsity overtime game 47-42. Both teams played very good defense in the first half, and Walkersville led 22-19 at the half. Walkersville built a six point lead at the end of three quarters before Crestwood turned up the defensive pressure to tie the game at the end of regulation. Walkersville outscored Crestwood 5-0 in overtime to clinch the win. Poor foul shooting plagued the Cavs as they managed to hit just 6 of 22. This proved to be costly. Ray Ferguson had an outstanding game for the Lions with 21 points. James Hughes and Xavier Stewart each chipped in with eight points. Andrew Rollins paced the Cavs with 12 points and a great defensive effort. Shakil Smith and Trayvon Hoy each added nine points for the Cavs.
The jayvee teams battled it out. Both teams came to play ball in a game that would go into a double overtime. At the 1/2 Crestwood had the lead 14 to 10. At the end of regulation the score was tied at 28 all. Crestwood won the game 34 to 32 at the end of the second OT. High Scorers for Walkersville were, Devin Bell with 8 points, Jacob Miller had 7 points and Jay Dennis tossed in 6 points. Crestwood's high scorers were, Kiven Kidwell with 14 points, Zach Wathen had 10 points and Taylor Hyssong had 5 points.
Varsity - Glenwood 50 MSD 44. First quarter, it was a seesaw score. Glenwood led 19 to 16 end of 1st quarter. MSD did not score well in the second quarter making Glenwood 10 points leadiing in the halftime. MSD fought back very hard to keep the scores up to par with Glenwood's scoring machine in the 2nd half. The final score was 50 to 44 in favor of Glenwood. Colin Osborne and Brendan McMahon scored 14 points each with the help of big Erik Siegried's 10 points. MSD failed to convert more than 50 percent of free throws (8 made out of 22 attempts). Shawn Harrington made a strong 2nd half performance with 13 points. Todd Bonheyo chipped in 11 points, 6 assists and 7 steals.
Glenwood jayvee defeated MSD 31-24. Derek Frank was overall high scorer with 10 points for MSD, Jesse Steingeiser had 7 points and nine rebounds, James Steingeiser with 4 points and also,Tyler pulled down 10 rebounds for MSD. Glenwood was led by Jeff Jacoby with 12 points.
The Linganore jayvee Lancers started out fast and never looked back in defeating by a score of 36-31. Linganore was lead by Ryan Hall's 23 points. Middletown was led by Michael Pritts who tallied 13 points. Luke Jackson played an all around superb game for the Lancers with 3 assists, 3 steals and 6 rebounds.
Linganore varsity jumped out to a 15-5 first quarter lead and never looked back in defeating Middletown 46-27. Linganore had 8 players score and were led by the trio of Kyle Warholic 13 points, Alex Anwar 12 points and Ryan Santmyer 11 points. Middletown was led by Christopher Pirrone 7 points and Nick Wolf 6 points.
In a very tight second half Glenwood prevailed over homestanding Oakdale 66-63. Glenwood jumped out to a nine point lead early in the first half behind great team shooting, and poor defense by Oakdale, placing five players with five or more points by haltime. Glenwood led at half 40-31. The Eagles came out strong in the third quarter playing tough defense and pushing the ball to take the lead 50-48 after three quarters. Glenwood would not wilt though as they came back in the fourth quarter and scored 18 points for the victory. Great balanced scoring helped the Glenwood cause. Leading the way was Erik Seigried with 18 points. Brendan McMahon added 12 points, Danny Napolitano 11 points, Colin Osbourne ten points, Sam Salmeron nine points and Scott Dziwalski six points. Oakdale was paced by Vince Croce with 28 points, 18 rebounds and three blocked shots. Kyle Carpenter and Juan Retana added 13 and nine points, respectively. A combined 49 free throws were taken in the game.
Jayvee - Glenwood 38 Oakdale 29. Oakdale took an early lead in a low scoring first quarter, but went into half down by 9 after being plagued with turnovers and scoring only 2 points in the second period. Glenwood outscored Oakdale 13 -2 in the second quarter. Early in the fourth quarter Glenwood sported a 16 point lead. Oakdale quietly cut into the lead and pulled to within 4, but 8-10 shooting from the charity stripe sealed the victory for Glenwood. Joesph Tolbert lead Glenwood scorers with 12. Ben Bowman lead all scorers with 16 and Clay Alldredge added 7 for the Eagles.
The Windsor Knolls varsity scored 36 of their 52 points in the second half to gain their 8th win of the season at Folly Quarter 52-42. The Folly Quarter Falcons came out strong in the first quarter and led 12 to 5. Windsor Knolls worked their way back and only trailed by two at the intermission. Windsor Knolls finally took the lead for good in the third quarter and led at the end of three - 31 to 27. Windsor Knolls moved the ball well, played hard and made their free throws to finish the game. Windsor Knolls was led by outstanding play from a trio of players including Will Duddleson with sixteen points, Kyle Joyce with thirteen points and Aaron Bing with twelve points including nine rebounds in the second half alone. Folly Quarter had a generally balanced attack and was led by Scott Heydrick with eleven points.
The Windsor Knolls junior varsity squad used an aggressive defense and fast break offense to subdue Folly Quarter 55 - 42. Windsor Knolls was led by Michael Lowe with 17 points while Riley Spain added 14. Windsor Knolls opened up a quick 9 - 1 lead but Folly Quarter fought back to be down by 26 - 20 at half. But Windsor Knolls's Lowe hit three three point baskets in the 4th quarter to put the game away. Folly Quarter was led by a strong effort by Blake Heuer with 13 points and Michael Nicastro with 10.
The Brunswick varsity beat St. John's 57-31. Brunswick jumped out to a 18-6 first quarter lead and never looked back. Anthony Chapouris had 11 points for Brunswick and Josh Allison had 10. Trevor Wilkes played an outstanding game for St. John's finishing with 17 points to lead all scorers.
Brunswick jayvee defeats St Johns 51-28. Ian Fisher lead Brunswick with nine and Robert. Conova lead St.Johns with eight. Brunswick took a fourteen to four point lead at the quarter and St.Johns just never recovered.
TJ used a balanced attack to overcome a first quarter deficit and beat Urbana on the road 49-29. 11 players scored for TJ. Kelson Yearwood lead the winners with 9 points and Joe Atmonavage and Arsean Nelson each pitched in with 8. Patrick Walsh had another strong game for Urbana finishing with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
JV - Urbana 45 TJ 25. Urbana came out running and built a 26-8 lead at the end of two quarters. TJ regrouped and out played and out hustled the Hawks in the second half, but were unable to overcome the Hawk halftime lead. TJ was led in scoring by Jerel English with 10 points and Ken Wims with 7 points. Urbana was led in scoring by Mike Madaras with 14 points and Kyler Rose with 8 points. Mike Madaras and James Jaworski did an outstanding job or rebounding for the Hawks.
Poolesville's varsity big man tandem controlled the boards and the scoreboard as the efforts of Spencer Barks (25 points) and Zach Zapata (20 points) fueled the Falcon's 57-40 win over MSD. The Orioles hung close through most of three-quarters behind the hot-shooting and aggressive play of Tony Bonheyo (17 points), Ethan Kramer (nine points) and Todd Rewolinski (seven points).
Poolesville's JV overcame a 12-point deficit to beat MSD by a final score of 35-26. The Falcon's Collin Turner keyed the late game surge by scoring eight of his 11 points total in the 4th period. Derek Frank scored 12 points to lead the Orioles. His teammate Jesse Steingieser chipped in five points. Poolesville got big buckets from Zach Sneed and Brendan Carney, along with a key three-pointer from Dylan Bourque.
Tuscarora High School was packed to capacity and it was a college game atmosphere as Tuscarora feeder schools Crestwood and Ballenger were allowed to play in the High School for the first time ever.
The jayvee Bulldogs jumped out to a 18-8 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and never looked back. The Bulldogs led the whole game beating the Cavaliers 60-49. The Bulldogs had a big night from the game high scorer Andy Shannon who had 15 points with 8 coming from the 2nd quarter. He played an exceptional game on offense, teammate Ernie Burrell also had a great game chipping in 12 points. Mark Hoy and John Cappolella each had six points a piece for the winners. The Cavaliers were led by Taylor Hyssong and Kevin Kidwell who each had a big night with 14 points a piece, Kidwell also had two big 3 pointers and Bracy Simmons hit the boards with nine points for the Cavaliers.
The Crestwood varsity took the game against the Bulldogs with a score of 56-43. Poor shooting and early foul trouble and a lot of missed foul shots hurt the Bulldogs, The Cavaliers led 13-6 at the end of the first quarter, but the Bulldogs fought back to close the gap and was down by 4 at the half with Crestwood leading 24-20. The Cavaliers starting to speed up the pace in the 3rd quarter and they started to get their biggest lead of the game of 10 at the end of the third. The Bulldogs were 16 of 33 from the foul line which hurt them in a big way. The Bulldogs also had some of their big men in foul trouble. The Bulldogs scored 6 quick points in the 4th to try and close the gap but they were overpowerd by the Cavaliers. The Cavaliers were led by Andrew Rollins who shared being game high Scorer with Bulldogs Derek Macierowski both played an expectional game and they both had 17 points a piece. Also Shakil Smith-Cain added 11 points and Trayvon Hoy had 10 points for the Cavaliers. The Bulldogs also got 10 points from Shocquille Giles and Greg Shannon had seven points for the Bulldogs.
Varsity - Windsor Knolls 46 Urbana 33. Aaron Bing scores 18 points and Phillip Schmidt would add 11 and help Windsor Knolls to a hard fought victory against Urbana. Phillip Schmidt would drain two long three pointers and score 8 points to help Windsor Knolls take a 14-5 advantage after one period. An evenly played second period would leave the score at 25-15 at the half. Aaron Bing would score 10 points in the third and the Windsor Knolls defense would create some turnovers and take a 40-25 lead. Urbana did not give up and turned up the defensive pressure to cut the lead to 10, but would get no closer. Patrick Walsh had a strong inside game for Urbana, working very hard on the boards, leading his team in scoring with 18. Nick Flanders added 8 and Dylan Gardner chipped in 6 for Urbana. Kyle Joyce would score 8 points and Will Duddleson 5 for Windsor Knolls. Phillip Schmidt also added 5 rebounds for Windsor Knolls.
Urbana dominated the boards limiting WK to one shot most of the game in route to an impressive 57-28 jayvee victory. Big man Mike Madaras rebounded and lead all scorers with 18 points. James Jaworski and Thomas Utt had strong games with 8 and 6 points. Urbana strength on the boards ignited a good fast break transition game. Justin Ailstock for WK battled hard on the boards. Issac Apea and Ryan Milburn came in off the bench for WK with strong games finishing with 6 and 4 points.
Varsity - TJ 28 Walkersville 44. The Lion went to the locker room at the half with a 14-9 lead. A game of well played defense kept the score close. Orlando Rosa and Xavier Stewarts led Walkersville in scoring with 12 points apiece. Joe Atmonavage scored 8 for the Pats. A 14-5 run in the third gave Walkersville a 28-14 lead after 3 periods. TJ had to many costly turnovers down the stretch to mount a run.
Jayvee - TJ 30 Walkersville 40. Walkersville jumped to a 13-9 lead after the first period. The second period TJ closed the gap and tied the ball game 19-19 at the intermission. Matt Hawkins led the Lions with 10 point, Jacob Miller chipped in 8. TJ was lead by Kendall Pitts with 8 points, while Jerel English added 7 points. The second half was all Lions out scoring TJ 11-6 in the third and 10-5 in the forth. TJ tried a late run that came up short ,
Monocacy's varsity Mustangs ran there record to 9-2 as they defeat a under manned but very competitive Glenwood team 52-38, behind solid defense and balanced scoring. the Mustangs where lead by LaMont Wims 17 points, four steals , Connor Joos nine points, three rebounds, Deandre Scott seven points, three steals, Drew Gilson three points, Treyvon Randoph three points, four steals and two assist, Evan Campbell Seven points, five rebounds and one steal. Glenwoods scorers where Scott Dziwalski four points, Brendan McMahon eight points, Colin Osborne 14 points and Eric Siegried 14 points.
Monocacy defeated Glenwood's jayvees 33-30. After a slow first quarter which ended with a score of six to two in favor of the mustangs. At halftime the score was fifteen to twelve in favor of monocacy taking the lead. Glenwood opened the third quarter with a six-zero run to take a seventeen-fifteen lead. At the end of the third glenwood outscored moncacy sixteen to five, to take a twenty-six to twenty lead. Monocacy fought back with jus minutes left in the fourth quarter to win the game thrity-three to thirty. Jordan Yarbourough led monocacy with fifteen points and Paul McLister added six. Glenwood was led by Joe Tolbert with fifteen points.
West Frederick Cadets defeat Mt Airy varsity 43-33. West Frederick held down the lead from the start with Daniel Samick scoring 13 points in the first quarter, including 2- 3 pointers, the score was 19-11, The Cadets contiued to play a tough game thru-out, The team pulled together like never before. High scorer for the Cadets was Daniel Samick with 16 points, Sky Baron with 11,George Snowden with 7, Leonard Worsham with 4, Both Devante' Williams and Lakota Tow with each with 2 points and Andrew Leishman with 1 point. High scorer for Mt Airy was Ryan McTavish with 10 points and Jeff Martin with 6, Jake Phillips with 5, Logan Malane with 4,Ryan McIvor with 2 and Jake Smith with 1 point.
West Frederick's jayvees played an all around team game with 10 out of 12 players scoring. The Cadets started the game with 15-0 run and never looked back. Jalen Gee and Ryan Kennedy had 11 points, Nigel Finder chipped in with 7, Connor Corbitt, Demore Towsend, Charles Harvey and Tyler all had 4 points. Lashawn Naylor had 5, Connor Weakley and Luke Witmer had 2 a piece. Leading scorer for Mt Airy was gavin McIntavish with 10, Chad Ringold with 9 and Alex Satter7. Tha final score was West Frederick 54 and Mt Airy 36.

Spenser Barks of Poolesville took control of the glass and scored 11 points in the fourth quarter. He was also game-high scorer with a total of 19 points. Jon Newberry scored eight points and Zach Zopata scored six points for Poolesville. Catoctin was led by Nick Maxey with 11 points, and Landon Routzahn had 10 points. Ben Tylicki played scrappy defense while picking up several steals. Ben and Nick Krstanovic each scored four points.
Catoctin edged Poolsville in a jayvee thriller. In a game filled with scoring runs and lead changes, Catoctin Jayvees hold on for the win, 43-40 at home. Catoctin raced out to a 9-2 lead to open the game, but Poolesville came back on the strong play of their big men and guard penetration, to tie the game at the half. Poolesville expanded their lead in the second half to as much as seven points and went into the fourth quarter with a five point lead. Catoctin then came roaring back in the final quarter using a relentless full-court press, turning a five-point deficit into a six-point lead. Poolesville refused to give up and had a chance to tie it on a last-second three that rattled off of the rim, giving victory to the Cougars. Josh Laramore for Catoctin led all scores with 15 points, and six steals. Ryan Delauter had eight points and Aaron Barker seven points for the Cougars. Garrett Sprankle led Catoctin wth six assists and also had five steals. TJ Raubaugh also had several key assists and a timely steal, and Alex Kennedy had a key assist and strong drives to the basket. Tyler Smith also scored on a strong inside move. The Cougars shot 18 for 25 from the line to help seal the win. Ean Addison led the Falcons with 12 points, followed by Zach Sneed and Collin Turner with 6 points each.
Walkersville's full court pressure and inside play proved too much for the visiting Lancers as the Lions defeated the visitors in a 42-29 inter-division matchup. Lion Quentin Ezell led all scorers with 12 points in the paint, and added to the effort with 7 rebounds. Teammate Orlando Rosa chipped in 7 points from the perimeter, and James Hughes contributed 6 points. For the Lancers, their balanced attack was led by the inside play of Ryan Santmyer (8 points)and Steven Lesko (6 points), and supplemented by the slashing moves of Alexander Anwar (6 points).
Jayvee - Walkersville 30 Linganore 24. The Lions and Lancers struggled from the field early only scoring 12 and 10 respectively in the first half. The second half also became a defensive battle. The Lions held the Lancers to just 2 of 13 from behind the arc. Walkersville outscored Linganore 18 -14 in the second half and clinged to a 6 point victory. The Lancers were led in scoring by Ryan Hall with 9 points including a three. The Lions were led by Ben Bandy's 14 points.
It was a hard fought varsity game between Maryland and Brunswick. Brunswick led the game by the margin of 4 points through the first three quarters. MSD Varsity Boys played scrambled defense to confuse Brunswick offense from the start of the game to nearly final buzzer. At the beginning of fourth quarter, Brunswick pulled off with 8 points leading over MSD. MSD came back slowly and almost contained Brunswick with 34 to 33 with about 30 seconds remaining in the game. C. J Shackle of Brunswick made a good pivotal post move and made a shot to ensure the possible victory with the score of 35 to 34. With 11 counting down seconds left in the game, MSD missed an opening basket to seal the victory. Unfortunately, MSD did not upset Brunswick in the final two seconds. DeShawn Imes sprinted to catch a long pass for a lay-up as the time expired. The final score was 37 to 34 in favor of Brunswick. Anthony Chapouris led Brunswick with his 13 points including 3 treys. For MSD, Todd Bonheyo scored 12 points and 5 assists. Todd Rewolinski tallied 8 points including 2 treys.
JV -MSD 27-Brunswick 26. At the halftime, MSD controlled the game, 20-9. However, Brunswick refused to give up until the end of the game. Leading scorers for MSD were Jesse Steinigieser with 12 and 14 rebounds and Derek Frank with 11. Ian Fisher led the Brunswick with 14.
Brunswick defeated Mt Airy 58-39. Collin Nusbaum and Geoffery Davis lead the roaders with 14, Ian Fisher had 13 for the roaders. Mctavish lead Mt Airy with 15.
The Brunswick varsity team came away with a 68-39 victory. Brunswick jumped out to a 23-9 first quarter lead and never looked back. Brunswick was led by CJ Shankle with 16 points. Anthony Chapouris had 13, DeShaun Imes 10 and Zach Struss 8. Mt. Airy was led by Ryan MacTavish with 18 points.
Linganore varsity defeated Urbana by the score of 54-30. Linganore had 10 different players score and were led by Ryan Santmyer with 14 points, Alex Anwar 8 points and Kyle Warholic 8 points. Patrick Walsh led Urbana with 14 points.
The jayvee Hawks outlasted the Lancers by a score of 57-45. The Hawks were lead by Matt Lanes's 13 points including a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line. The Urbana big men also made their presence felt with James Jaworski's 11 points and Mike Madara's 12. The Lancers were led by Ryan Hall's 19 points.
Urbana came to visit the 10-1 Cadets in the battle of heavyweigts and this game was just that a battle. Urbana was up 17-15 at the end of the first quarter. The game stayed tight all the way thu half time. West Frederick went into the half up 24-21. In the third quarter each team scored 10 points, 34-31. West Frederick turned up the defense and started to run the ball up court. The 4th quarter was the same. Jalen Gee lead all scorers with 15 pts, Ryan Kennedy chiped in 14 pts, Connor Corbitt had 8, Demore Townsend had 6, and Nigel Fender played an all around good game with 9 pts and numerous assists. Urbana was lead by James Jaworski with 12 pts, Thomas Utt and Mike Madulas had 10 pts each. West Frederick defeated Urbana 54-35.
West Frederick broke its varsity losing streak with a win of 41-37 over Urbana Sat. night. The score was 14-15 Urbana at the half, Sky Baron then took charge with a 3 pointer to set Frederick in gear, from that point on Frederick went forward and never looked back. High scorer for the Cadets was Sky Baron with 17 pts, Daniel Samick showed up and scored 10 for the Cadets, Matt Grimes added 6pts, Devante Williams added 4 and both George Snowden and Leonard Worsham added 2 points each. Urbana was lead by Patrick Walsh who played an outstanding game, he had 12 pts, Dylan Gardner added 11 pts both Nicholas Twilley and Noland Reed had 6 pts each while Connor Cunningham added 2 pts.
Varsity - Crestwood 54 TJ 38. Crestwood's big 3 was to much for TJ. Trayvon Hoy 16pt, Andrew Rollins 16pt and Shakil Smith-Cain 15pts. The score was 22-20 at the half Crestwood. The Pats stayed close with strong play inside by Kelson Yearwood with 15. Crestwood went to a zone the second half and poor shooting and turnovers did the Pats in. Joe Atmonavage added 11 for TJ. The score was 32-28 after the 3rd period. Down the stretch Crestwood in the 4th outscored the Pats 22-10.
JV - TJ 37 Crestwood 59. Crestwood proved to be to much for the young Patriots. After the first period Crestwood lead 16-14. A 16-3 second period run gave Crestwood control at the half, 32-17. Kevin Kidwell lead the charge with 17, Dante Snowden and Zach Wathen chipped in 10 and 9 respectively for Crestwood. Ken Wims led TJ with 16. The second half was evenly played and TJ could not put together a run.
Windsor Knolls outlast the Middletown varsity Knights 48 to 45 . In the win the Windsor Knolls was lead in scoring by Kyle Joyce with 18 points and Aaron Bing with 13 points . Middletown in the loss was lead in scoring by Chris Piccone with a strong and dominate 28 points .
The Knights jayvees beat the Hawks 54-43. The hot shooting of Zachary Fontentot-a game high 20 points and the strong inside play of Ben Lewis proved to much for the Hawks. The first half was close and the Knights held a 24-21 lead at the break. The Hawks fought hard in the second half but the Knights put the game away late in the 4th quarter outscoring the Hawks 11-5. The Knights Collin Delauter(9 points) and Michael Pritts(7 points)had good games for the Knights. The Hawks were led by Ervin Liang with 11. Mike Lowe had an excellent game battling hard on the boards and finished with 8 .
Ballenger Creek held on to out last Glenwood 46 to 49 in varsity action. Ballenger Creek used a man press to force eight first quarter turnovers. Glenwood managed to lead 12 to 8 at the end of the first period. Ballenger Creek outscored the home team 18 to 10 in the second period to take a 22 to 18 halftime lead. In the second half Glenwood handled the press better, but missed many open lay-ups and fastbreak opportunities and fell behind 36 to 38 after three periods. Glenwood opened up a 4 point lead in the period but was unable to maintain the lead, as their interior defense broke down in the closing minutes. Ballenger Creek was lead by Arturo Gyles with 13, Konner Gubler with 10, Derek Mac with 8 and Greg Shannon with 7. Glenwood was lead by Erik Siegfried with 16 and Nathan Gorey with 8.
JV - Glenwood 36 to Ballenger Creek 48. Glenwood jayvee suffered their second loss. Ballenger lead the entire game with John Cappolella contributing 15 points and Ali Azez with 11. Glenwood jayvee had Jeffrey Facoby as their leading scorer with 11 and Joe Tolbert with 8. Glenwood had a difficult time defensively against Ballenger. They out rebounded and scored Glenwood each quarter. Glenwood attempted to come bak in the fourth quarter, but time ran out leaving Glenwood 8 points behind.
Oakdale varsity jumped out to a 23-2 1st quarter lead on an undermanned St. John's squad and then coasted to a 48-20 victory. Oakdale's Niko Crawford came off the bench to lead the Eagles with 16 points and 22 rebounds. Vince Croce added 14 points. Eight players scored for the Eagles. Bryon Plummer added four steals. St. Johns was led by Trevor Wilks with nine points.
JV - Oakdale 44 - St John's 37. At the end of the first period the score was tied. Game stayed very even into half with the Vikings sporting a one point lead. The Eagles came out in the third period and picked it up a notch. Outscoring the Vikings 21-9 and snagged the lead by the floor play and good solid defense of Nick Preston among others. The lead secured in the fourth and final period by strong free throw shooting gave the Eagles their third win of the season. Leading scorers for Oakdale were Ben Bowman with 13 and Jake Giangiuli with 10. Bobby Ordonio lead the Vikings with 9 and Phil Reese added 8.
Brunswick overcame Catoctin's varsity slow-down game plan for a 31-16 victory. Brunswick led 21-16 at the end of three quarters. Catoctin failed to score in the fourth quarter. Top scorer for the game was Brunswick's Anthony Chapouris with 15 points. Brunswick's C.J. Shankle chipped in with eight points and DeShaun Imes with four points. Top scorers for Catoctin were Eric Hobbs and Nick Maxey, each scoring six points. Other scorers for Catoctin were Garrett Ellis and Roberto Alvarez. Nick Maxey had a an aggressive rebounding performance and Eric Hobbs had a strong offensive passing game.
Catoctin mounted a jayvee comeback in the second half of the game to seal its victory against Brunswick, 54 to 48. Brunswick started hot out of the gate behind good outside shooting and strong inside play by their big men to take a ten point lead into the half. Catoctin staged a furious comeback in the second half behind a suffocating full court defense to take the lead and hold on for the win. Garrett Sprankle, Ryan Delauter and Harlan Lawson had key steals in the comeback, helping to turn the game's momentum. Michael Fairley also had some key drives and a timely assist as Catoctin took the lead for good. Harlan Lawson led the Cougars with 12 points, followed by Aaron Barker and Garrett Sprankle with 10 each. Sprankle also led the time with eight rebounds and tied Barker with five steals. Brad Little and Josh Laramore also sparked the rally, with Little having a timely rebound and follow-up and Laramore draining a momentum swinging three-pointer. Alex Pagel for Brunswick led all scorers with 15 points, and Ian Fisher added 13 points for the Railroaders on strong inside play.
Crestwood defeated Monocacy 53-49 in a very tense, well played varsity tilt. Crestwood used a very good defensive effort to hold a 27-16 halftime lead. Monocacy battled back in the third quarter behind the good outside shooting of DeAndre Scott and Lamont Wims, to cut the Crestwood lead to two points. Monocacy opened up a seven point lead until Crestwood turned up the defensive pressure, and got an outstanding effort from Kwame Asante off the bench to take back the lead and hold on for the victory. Andrew Rollins led Crestwood with 12 points. Shakil Smith played a great floor game for Crestwood and scored 10 points. Asante scored nine points off the bench and Trayvon Hoy chipped in with eight for the Cavs. Lamont Wims had a great game for Monocacy and ended up with 17 points.
Crestwood jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 60-43 victory over Monocacy's jayvees. Crestwood held a seven point lead at the half 29-22, then jumped on Monocacy in the third quarter with good defense and outscored the Mustangs 20-11, to put the game out of reach. Kevin Kidwell had a great game for the Cavaliers with 22 points. Bracy Simmons also played a good game and added 19 points. Taylor Hyssong chipped in with 11 points for the Cavs. Monocacy was led by Paul McLister with 14 points. Jordan Yarboorough and Carney Bernard each added nine points for the Mustangs.
Varsity - MSD jumped out to a 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and Ballenger Creek answered back with 16 points in the 2nd quarter to go into the half tied at 24 a piece. The Bulldogs were up 40-36 after the end of the 3rd quarter. The fourth quarter turned out to be the Bulldogs, they went on a 23-6 run against MSD to seal the victory with a score of 63-42. Ballenger was led by Derek Macierowski who scored a game high 20 points with 12 coming from the 4th quarter. Teammates Arturo Gyles and Brandon Willett each chipped in 10 points a piece and teammate Konnor Gubler added nine points for the winners. MSD was led by excellent playing from Todd Bonheyo who played a great game with 14 points and teammate Ethan Kramer added eight points and Myles Goldberg and Todd Rewolinski each had six points a piece.
The jayvee Bulldogs jumped out to a 15-2 lead after the first quarter and the Bulldogs were leading 31-11 at the half. Every player for the Bulldogs went into the scorebooks. The Bulldogs was led by the game high scorer Kwaveon McDonald with 10 points and Denzel Ofori added eight points and teammates Jaylen White and Ernie Burrell each chipped in seven points a piece for the winners. MSD was led by Derek Frank with nine points and teammate James Steingieser with eight points. The JV Bulldogs won the game with a score of 53-21.
Walkersville's varsity was fortunate to hold off a second half rally by visiting Ballenger Creek 43-35. Ballenger outscored the Lions 27-20 in the second half in a valient Bulldog comeback. Ballenger Creek's Derek Macjerowski led all scorers with 14 points, 12 of them in the second half. Teammate Arturo Gyles added 10 for the visitors. The Lions were paced by James Hughes with 13 points and 8 rebounds as the Lions opened up a 15 point half time lead. Sloppy play by the Lions, and the Bulldog pressure brought it close, but Walkersville held on for the eventual win.
JV - Ballenger Creek 28 Walkersville 16 Both teams were sluggish in the first half fighting a defensive battle while struggling offensively. The Bulldogs led at the break 9-6 helped by John Cappolella's 7 points. The third quarter belonged to Ballenger Creek. They outscored the Lions 13-6, led by Ernie Burrell's 7 points. The Lions never recovered offensively, shooting only 5 of 19 in the second half and grabbing only 3 offensive rebounds. Ben Bandy led the Lion's scoring with 8 points and had 5 steals. Bulldog scoring was led by John Cappolella (11) and Ernie Burrell ( 9 ).
T.J. defeated Middletown 34-32 in varsity action. In a defensive battle, Brian Chase paced T.J. in the first half with seven points. The scrappy Knights we led by Chris Pirrone's four points. T.J. led 14-10 at the break. In the third quarter, Joe Afmonarage sparked the Patriots with two tree-pointers in the quarter. In the fourth quarter, T.J. increased their lead to 10 points poised to closing out the Knights hopes for an upset. However, the Knights fought back, down by seven points with two minutes left in the game, the Knights mounted a comeback led by scrappy defense and missed foul shots by T.J. Sam Michaels hit a three pointer with 10 seconds left to cut the lead to two points. Michaels then came up with a steal with six seconds left giving the Knights one last chance to win the game or go into overtime. A three point shot by Chris Pirrone rolled off the rim and T.J.'s Kelson Yearwood blocked the follow-up to seal the win for the Patriots. Brian Chase led T.J. with nine points and Middletown's Chris Pirrone led all scorers with 13.
The Middletown jayvee ended the long weekend with a 48-38 victory over a scrappy TJ squad. Middletown was lead by Zack Fontenot and his 10 points. Eight players scored from a very balanced and unselfish Knight attack. Ben Lewis netted eight points and Michael Pritts chipped in seven as the leading scorers. For TJ, Ken Wims was very strong with 12 points while Blane Helis added ten in the losing effort.
Glenwood's varsity opened up a ten-point halftime lead and kept their Poolesville counterparts at bay for the rest of their 51-42 win over the Falcons. Glenwood's center Erik Siegfried displayed a nice inside/outside game and finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate Brendan McMahon scored 11 points and Sam Salmeron and Matthew Hyer each chipped in nine points for the winning Cobras. Spencer Barks scored 17 points and fellow big man Zach Zapata finished with 13 points for Poolesville.
Glenwood's jayvees overcame an eight-point 4th quarter deficit to beat Poolesville's JVs by a final score of 24-22. The Cobra's Nick Wynne scored seven points in the final period and finished with 11. Joe Tolbert chipped in seven points in the exciting win. Brendan Carney and Collin Turner led Poolesville with eight points each.

Linganore jayvee team jumped out to a 19 to 8 half time lead over St. John's. The third quarter St. John's battled hard but Linganore out scored them 13 to 6. The last Quarter Linganore out scored St. John's 13 to 1. The final score was Linganore 45-St. John's 15. The high scorers for Linganore were, Ryan Hall and Clay Connor with 10 points . For St. John's the high scorers were, Travis Deckert with 7 points and AJ Kenworthy with 4 points.
Windsor Knolls gets a 57-36 varsity victory over Catoctin behind Kyle Joyce, who scored 8 points in the first quarter, when 13-14 from the free throw line and would lead all scorers with 23. Nick Maxey scored 12 points for Catoctin, with Roberto Alvarez, Justin Tomasini and Garrett Ellis adding four each. Aaron Bing chipped in 18 and Alex Otto added six for the Hawks.
The Hawks balanced scoring and team effort resulted in a 58-16 jayvee victory over the Cougars. The Hawks raced to a 33-9 half-time lead with good defensive pressure and fastbreaks. 12 players scored for the Hawks led by Justin Ailstock with 10. Mike Lowe had an outstanding game coming in off the bench scoring 8 from the inside and outside. He also did a great job on the boards. The speed of Jake Christoff resulted in 8 points mainly on drives to the basket. Ryan Milburn chipped in 6 with excellent shooting and inside play. The guard play of Riley Spain, Tucker Morgan and Riley Treryar controlled the pace of the game. Dan Deegan, Nick Peifer Jackson Eskay Russell Lohr, and Ervin Liang helped with good defense and excellent passing. Issac Apea and Buckey Erichsen rebounded well and helped the Hawks get out on the break. The Cougars played hard the entire game and showed and they were led by Ryan Delauter with 4 and Aaron Barker ,Alex Kennedy with 3 each on long 3 pointers.
Varsity - Mononcacy 69, Urbana 43. Monocacy used a combination of full court press and half court traps to build an 18 point half time lead. The Hawks made a small run in the 3rd quarter, but the Monocacy pressure continued to cause turnovers leading to break away layups. Monocacy was led in scoring by Lamont Whims with 19 points. Connor Joos scored 14 and DeAndre Scott added 9 points for the winners. Patrick Walsh was tenacious on the boards for the Hawks and finished with 19 points. Conner Cunningham scored 10 and Nick Twilley had 7 points.
JV - Urbana 61, Monocacy 41. Urbana came out strong and built a 22-10 lead by the end of the first quarter. Monocacy hung tough on the strong play of Paul McLister who scored 10 points in the second quarter and trailed by 11 points at half. The game continued to be fast paste contest with the Hawks gradually pulling away in the third and fourth quarters. The Hawks were led in scoring by Mike Madaras with 12 points. James Jaworski and Matt Lane each added 10 points a piece and Thomas Utt chipped in 9 points. Mike Madaras and James Jaworski did an outstanding job of rebounding the ball for the Hawks. Paul McLister led all scorers with 19 points and Jordan Yarborough added 8 points.
In a high scoring game, Crestwood's varsity defeated Linganore 74-64. Crestwood jumped out to a 21-17 first quarter lead but midway through the second quarter Linganore went ahead 32-28.Crestwood then went on a 17-5 run and never looked back. Both teams had 10 different players score. Crestwood was led by Shakil Smith 20 points and Andrew Rollins 18 points. Linganore was led by Alex Anwar 16 points and Ryan Santmyer also added 12 points.
The Junior Lancers edged the Crestwood jayvee team by a score of 48 to 46. The Lancers, down by as many as 8 points late in the third quarter, staged a furious rally and nipped the Crestwood team. Linganore was led by Ryan Halls 24 points and 8 rebounds. Matt Freibaum chipped in 9 points for the Lancers and Clay Conner added another 8. The Crestwood JV team was led by big man Kevin Kidwell's 24 points. The other big man for the Crestwood team, Zach Wathen added 10 points.
TJ defeats West Frederick's varsity 42-32. The game was close thru out 1st quarter 11-12, 2nd 18-20 and third quarter 26-26, West Frederick was led by Sky Baron with 22 pts Leonard Worsham, george Snowden, Devante' Williams,and Corey Droneburg all with 2 pts. TJ was led by DJ Ansbro and Joe Atmonavage both with 11 pts and Brain Chase with8 and Jimmy Dickson with 6 points. it was a very intense and exciting game.
Jayvee - TJ and West Frederick went almost bucket for bucket in the 1st quarter. West Frederick turned up the defense in the 2nd quarter and extended the lead to 32-19 at the half. TJ made a run to cut the score in half through the 3rd quarter but never got any closer. The finial score was 60-34 West Frederick. Jalen Gee led the Cadets with 33 pts, Connor Corbit had 11 pts and Ryan Kennedy 10. TJ was led by Ken Whims with 16 points and Bradley Menl with 7.
Ballenger Creek defeated Middletown 46-35 in varsity action. In a hard fought first quarter the Knights led 9-8, led by Colin VanWorkhoven's four points. The Bulldogs fought back in the second quarter to lead 21-15 at the half.In the second half, the pressure defense of Ballenger Creek slowed the Knights and Ballenger Creek sprinted to a 33-21 third quarter lead paced by Derek Macierawski's six points in the quarter. In the fourth quarter the Knights could not close the gap and Bulldogs left with the victory. Derek Macierawski and Shaequille Giles led the Bulldogs with 11 and eight points respectively. The Knights were led by Chris Pirrone with nine points.
In a very exciting jayvee game, Middletown held off Ballenger Creek 54-51. The game was highly competitive. Ben Lewis was the star of he game netting 26 points and playing a dominant style defense while rebounding every loose ball in his area. Zack Fontenot added nine points with some very aggressive driving to the rack while Connor Fisher chipped in seven with some solid inside play. The game was not really decided until a late inbounds assist from Michael Pritts found Fontenot with less than 10 seconds to play for the last score. Ballenegr did get a shot for the tie but it rattled out and the Knights held on for the win. For Ballenger Ryan Grant displayed some sharp shooting long range accuracy with 13 points and Ernie Burrell seemed to be everywhere while adding his 12 points.
The Brunswick varsity team finally wore down a fiesty Folly Quarter team to win 41-31. After a flat half shooting Brunswick finally got a couple of buckets in the paint to extend the lead.Folly Quarter was led by some outstanding defense and solid team play. Anthony Chapouris of Brunswick led all scorers with 15 points. Scott Heydrick had 10 for Folly Quarter.
Jayvee - Brunswick falls to Folly Quarter 43-47. For folly quarter Blake Heuer led with 14 points and Michael.N ended the game with 12. Alex Pagel led Brunswick with 11, Geoffrey Davis ended with 10.
Jayvee - Urbana 53, BC 46. Unbeaten Urbana won a showdown with Ballenger Creek, the only other undefeated squad in the League. Ballenger Creek jumped out to a 12-8 first quarter lead on the strong play of John Capppolella. The Hawks made a run in the second quarter to tie the game up at 22-22. Cappolella had 14 points in the first half. In the third quarter the Hawks continued to push the ball and built a 7 point lead. The Bulldogs stayed close, but Kyler Rose scored 10 points in the 4th quarter to ensure the win for the Hawks. The Hawks were led by Kyler Rose with 14, Matt Lane with 12 and Thomas Utt with 10 points. James Jaworski and Mike Madaras each scored 8 points and did an outstanding job of rebounding. John Cappolella led all scorers with 20 points. Ali Azez had 8 points and Ernie Burrell scored 6.
Varsity - BC 54, Urbana 36. The Hawks stayed close for the first quarter with Ballenger Creek holding a 13-10 lead. The Bulldogs put together a strong 2nd quarter and led by 13 at intermission. Ballenger came out at halftime and continued where they left off building a 20 point lead in the 3rd quarter. Ballenger Creek used a balanced attack with 9 players scoring for the Bulldogs. Derek Macierowsk had 10, Shocquille Giles scored 9 points, while Brandon Willett and Chris Winpigler each chipped in 8 points apiece. The Hawks were led in scoring by Dylan Gardner with 14 points, including four 3 pointers. Patrick Walsh scored 10 points and did an outstanding job or rebounding for Urbana.
The Glenwood Cobra's varsity team dropped its' second straight home game to visiting Brunswick 45 to 41. The home team could only manage 1 field goal in the first period as they quickly fell behind 11 to 4. Glenwood closed the gap to 25 to 22 at the half but again could only produce 1 field goal in the 3rd quarter as Brunswick opened up a 26 to 35 lead going into the 4th quarter. In the fourth quarter, Glenwood rallied to tie the score at 41 behind three 3 point field goals by point gaurd Danny Napolitano. Glenwood began fouling to stop the clock as Brunswick converted on only 6 of 14 foul shots in the fourth period. But But Tyrus Lawson hit 3 of 4 and Anthony Chapolris hit 2 of 2 in the closing seconds when it mattered most. Chauporis lead all scorers with 14 and C.J. Shankle hit for 10 on strong post up moves to lead Brunswick. Joey Martin added 8 and Matthew Wanger 6 as Wanger, Shankle and Stephen McCallum teamed up to shut down Glenwood's inside game. Glenwood was lead by Napolitano and Brendan McMahon with 9 points each.
Glenwood jayvees 40 Brunswick 30. High scorer for Glenwood was Joe Tolbert with 15 points following with 13 points, Golden Trawick. Brunswick high scorer was B. Eyler with 9 points and A. Pagel with 5 points. Glenwood had a great offense against a hard defense. Joe Tolbert showed his driving ability with the points he made and Golden Trawick played well.
Behind a strong defensive effort Oakdale Varsity defeated Catoctin 48-24. The Eagles defense held the Cougars to only three points in the second quarter to take a 25-10 halftime lead. The Eagles then applied very good defense to hold the Cougars to four points in the fourth quarter in route to the final score. Nick Maxey led the Cougars with 11 points. Oakdale put eight players in the scorebook led by Kyle Carpenter's 17 points and Vince Croce's 16 points. Croce also pulled down ten rebounds, blocked three shots and had three steals. Juan Retana swiped four steals for the Eagles.
Catoctin defeated Oakdale's jayvees 56-29. The Oakdale defense could not withstand the sharp shooting of the cougars. Thurmont out scored the eagles 16-6 in the second period and never looked back. The game was narrowed to 10 but the tenacious shooting of the young cougars proved to be too much for the boys at Oakdale to handle. The hot hand of Josh Laramore lead the way for Thurmont with 14 and 3 for 4 from behind the three point line. TJ Ramsbaugh and Troy Houck both added nine of their own. Jacob Giangiuli lead the way for the Eagles with 7 and Ben Bowman and Julian Coiner both dropped in 6.
TJ varsity defeated Mt.Airy 70-60. After leading 14-10 at the end of the first quarter TJ exploded with 31 second quarter points to lead at the half 45-23. Both teams scored 15 points in the third quarter as TJ led 60-38. Mt.Airy was able to cut the lead to 10 with just under a minute to play but could get no closer. TJ shot 72% from the foul line going 23-36 with Joe Atmonavage going 11-12 from the line and leading TJ's scoring with 18. Both teams traded baskets in the second quarter as TJ took a 24-18 lead into the half. Mt.Airy cut the lead to 34-30 at the end of the third quarter . With the game tied in the fourth quarter 44-44 and Mt.Airy with the ball, TJ stole the ball at half court with 17 seconds to play and went in for a lay up and the lead. Mt.Airy quickly pushed the ball up the court and shot a three pointer that banked off the backboard and rim, barely missing, a follow up basket was put in but was ruled to be shot after the buzzer. TJ was led by Ken Wims 23 points. Mt.Airy was led by Gavin McTavish's 17 points and Ryan Tate's 16 points. TJ was 13-25 from the foul line compared to Mt.Airy' 2-6.
Walkersville defeats West Frederick 41-28 Sky Baron was overall high scorer with 13 points for Frederick, Corey Droneburg had 6, George Snowden 4 Lakota Tow 3 and Leonard Worsham had 2 points. Walkersville was led by Quentin Ezell with 12 points, Orlando Rosa 9, James Hughes 7, and Raynell Fergusun with 6 points.
West Frederick continued to play a tough nose style defense which held the Walkersville jayvee scoreless in the first quarter. West Frederick continued the same pressure throughout the game. Nigel Fender led all scorers with 11 pts, Jalen Gee had 10 and Ryan Kennedy had 6 points. Walkersville was led by Jay Dennis with 8 and Jacob Milller had 4 points. Final score was 37-16.
Folly Quarter jayvee team jumped out to a 21 to 7 half time lead over St. John's. The third quarter St. John's battled hard but Folly Quarter out scored them 9 to 1. The last Quarter St. John's out scored Folly Quarter 11 to 5. The final score was Folly Quarter 35, St. John's 19. The high scorers for Folly Quarter were, Nick Ball with 9 points, Michael Nicastro and Logan Dudde each with 5 points. For St. John's the high scorers were, Bobby Ordonio with 5 points, and David Larson with 4 points.
Crestwood's varsity overcame a 12 point third quarter deficit to defeat Windsor Knolls 55-50 in overtime. Crestwood and Windsor Knolls played an evenly matched game through halftime, with Windsor Knolls holding a slim 23-22 lead at the half. Windsor Knolls used timely shooting and good defense to build a 12 point lead in the third quarter, and lead at the end of the third by 10. Crestwood turned up the pressure in the fourth quarter and outscored Windsor Knolls 21-11 to send the game into overtime. Crestwoods defense limited the Hawks to two points in the overtime period to take the win. Crestwood was led by the balanced scoring of its three captains, Shakil Smith (14 points), Andrew Rollins (14 points) and Trayvon Hoy (13 points). Charles Myers had an outstanding defensive effort for the Cavs. Windsor Knolls was led by Kyle Joyce and Aaron Bing with 19 and 12 points respectively.
Windsor Knolls and Crestwood were evenly matched in the jayvee game. Windsor Knolls jumped out to a 10 to 8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Crestwood took the game to Windsor Knolls in the second quarter out scoring them 14 to 8. This gave Crestwood a lead 22 to 18 at the half. Windsor Knolls came back strong in the third quarter with a 15 to 8 run. That gave them a 33 to 30 lead over Crestwood. The forth quarter Windsor Knolls was outscored 9 to 7 but won the game by 1 point 40 to 39. High Scorers for Windsor Knolls were, Justin Ailstock with 9, Nick Prifer had 8 & Riley Spain put in 6. For Crestwood the high scorers were, Zach Wathen with 14, Bracy Simmons dropped 13 & Kevin Kidwell had 11.
Mt. Airy's jayvee opened up a ten-point lead over Poolesville with little over three minutes to play behind the hot shooting of Chad Ringold, who finished with 12 points. The Falcons closed the margin to three late in the game with Billy Cartwright (11 points) and Ean Hill-Addison (nine points) doing most of the damage. Mt. Airy went on to score six unanswered points in the last minute of the game as they defeated Poolesville by a final score of 45-37. Jack Quinn and 6th grader Gavin McTavish contributed six points each for Mt. Airy.
Poolesville's varsity returned the favor in the nightcap as their center, Spencer Barks, scored the first 12 Falcon points in the home team's 48-40 win over Mt. Airy. Barks finished with 17 points and fellow teammate Zach Zapata contributed 14 points. Mt. Airy was paced by 12 points from Ryan McTavish and 11 points from Jake Phillips.
Walkersville varsity 37 Windsor Knolls 25. Walkersville and Windsor Knolls played a low scoring contest early, as the Hawks effectively forced a half court game for most of the first three periods. The Lions were able to force the pace, and extend the game to a transition contest allowing them to pull away in the 3rd and 4th quarters. James Hughes and Orlando Rosa of Walkersville led all scorers with 10 points each, while teammate Xavier Stewart contributed 7 points and 7 rebounds. For Windsor Knolls, Aaron Bing showed a strong perimeter shooting game with 9 points, hitting from all angles. Hawk teammate Kyle Joyce added 7 in the effort.
Walkersville jayvee 40 Windsor Knolls 30. Walkersville roared out to a 14-8 first quarter led by Matt Hawkins scoring 10 of his 14 points in the early period. The Hawks Tucker Morgan led the charge in the second period scoring 4 points, while the Hawks held the Lions to just four points on their way to an 11-4 run giving Windsor Knolls a 19-18 lead at the half. Walkersville regrouped at the half and were led by Ben Bandy's 9 second half points. The Lions outscored the Hawks 22-11 in the second half to secure the victory. Along with Tucker Morgan's 6 points , the Hawks Justin Ailstock chipped in 5 points. Walkersville's Matt Hawkins led all scorers with 14 while Ben Bandy's added 9 points. The Lion's Jacob Miller and Matt Hawkins teamed up for 12 rebounds (6 each). Jacob Miller also led the Lions with 7 steals.
Oakdale varsity 50 MSD 34. MSD played a good defense and offense leading 21 to 20 in the first half. Oakdale got advantage of MSD by their offensive rebounds and produced second shot chances. MSD missed many good shot opportunities. Big Vince Croce was shut down with zero points in the first half but finally came through with 10 points in the second half. Juan Retana led his team with 15 points. Shawn Harrington scored 14 points and Todd Bonheyo chipped in 10 points for MSD.
Oakdale jayvee boys defeated MSD 34 to 28. MSD led at halftime 16 to 14 and the score was 22 - 21 in Oakdale's favor at the end of the 3rd quarter. MSD was led by Derek Frank with 14 points. Zack Barron added eight points for the Orioles. Oakdale was led by Ben Bowman with 10 points. William Cunningham added eight points. Julian Coiner and Jacob Giangiuli had six points apiece for Oakdale.
The Brunswick varsity team came away with a thrilling 52-50 win over previously unbeaten Walkersville. Brunswick jumped out to an early 17-9 lead in the first quarter. Walkersville came roaring back to take a 28-26 halftime lead. Brunswick again built a lead and was ahead 41-34 at the end of the third quarter. Brunswick took a double digit lead early in the forth only to have Walkersville battle back to within two at the end of the game. Brunswick was led by its trio of guards with Anthony Chapouris and Tyrus Lawson with thirteen points, and Deshaun Imes with 12. CJ Shankle also had 9 points. Walkersville was led by Xavier Stewart's 15 points and Orlando Rosa had 10.
Walkersville won the jayvee game, 44-20. Walkersville leading scorer was Jacob Miller with nine. Brunswicks leading scorer Ian Fisher who had eight points for the Roaders.
The Folly Quarter varsity gained its third win of the year over visiting West Frederick, 42-35. Folly Quarter got out to a good start in the first quarter and led after the first seven minutes, 8 to 3. West Frederick played hard all night and only trailed by two at half, 17 to 15. In the third quarter, Folly Quarter continued converting baskets after breaking West Frederick's press and ended up leading 30 to 25 at the end of the third quarter. Folly Quarter continued breaking the West Frederick press in the fourth quarter which offset two three point shots by Andrew Leishman. West Frederick competed to the final horn. Folly Quarter's small forward, Scott Heydrick, led all scorers with nineteen points. He benefited from great passes from several of his teammates including Zach Scott who had six assists to go along with seven points and eight rebounds. Folly Quarter's two point guards Kirby Smith and Ryan Aylward were great leaders on and off the court. West Frederick was led by Andrew Leishman and a strong inside performance by Davonte Williams both of whom had eight points. Daniel Samick also came off the bench to score six including a three pointer.
West Frederick's jayvee used its fast break and a strong half-court press to defeat Folly Quarter 48 - 41. Nigel Fender had an outstanding first half scoring 14 points while West Frederick held a 23 - 13 lead at the half. Folly Quarter closed the gap in the 4th quarter. West Frederick was led by Fender with 17 while Conner Corbitt played a good all around game scoring 12 points. Folly Quarter was led by Davis Grove with 14 points and Blake Heuer with 10.
Poolesville's varsity used its height to their advantage as they held Middletown at arm's length throughout their 48-43 win over the Knights. Falcon's center Zach Zapata scored 18 points and fellow big man Spencer Barks dropped in 13 points to pace the Falcons effort. Middletown got the bulk of their scoring from Chris Pirrone (17 points) as well as Jared Curry and Sam Michaels (10 points each).
Middletown's javyee opened each half of their contest against Poolesville with a stifling zone press. That press proved to be too much for the host Falcons to handle as the visiting Knights left Poolesville with a 59-43 win. Middletown's Ben Lewis (16 points) and Michael Pritts (14 points) did all of their damage in the first three quarters, and fifth-grader Ben Panther provided the Knight's with an energy boost whenever he entered the contest. Billy Cartwright scored 11 points (including seven for nine from the line) to lead Poolesville. The Falcon's Collin Turner scored eight points and Brendan Carney chipped in seven points in the loss.
In a high scoring game, Linganore varsity defeated Catoctin 70-52. Linganore had scoring contributions from 10 players. Linganore was led in scoring by Ryan Santmyer with 24 points and Michael Wirtz with 17 points (on five 3 point field goals). Catoctin was led in scoring by Nick Maxey with 14 points and Austin Carter with 13 points.
In the contest, the Junior Lancers vanquished Catoctin by a tally of 42-23. The Lancers were able to handle the Cougar's 2-2-1 full court press to come away with a number of expeditious baskets in the paint. Leading the way for Linganore was Luke Jackson who contributed 10 points to go with his stifling defense. Troy Houck paced the Cougars with 7 points including some super foul shooting. Justin Corbitt and Ryan Hall each had 5 rebounds for the Lancers and Matt Freibaum had 4 steals.

The third quarter St. John's battled hard but Windsor Knolls out scored them 12 to 1. The Quarter ended with Windsor Knolls 40 and St. John's 12. The last Quarter Windsor Knolls out scored St. John's 14 to 7. The final score was Windsor Knolls 53, St. John's 19. The high scorers for Windsor Knolls were, Tucker Morgan with 10 points, Russell Lohr with 7 points and Ervin Liang with 6 points. For St. John's the high scorers were, Bobby Ordonio with 10 points, Travis Deckert with 3 points and Phillip Reese, EJ Wresinski, and Kyle Knapp with 2 points.
Linganore's varsity jumped out to an 11 - 0 lead over host Glenwood and hang on to tkae a 35 - 38 victory. Glenwood had a chance to tie with 2 minutes left when leading scorer Erik Siegfried hit the front end of a two shot foul to close the score 35 - 36. He missed the second however and and Ryan Santmyer hit 2 foul shots for the final score. Linganore was led by Mike Wirtz with 14 points followed by Santmyer and Alexander Anwar with 8 each. Glenwood was led by Erik Siegfried with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.
Glenwood jayvee 32, Linganore 19. Lucas Jackson from Linganore had 8 points and Tommy James had 5 points. Glenwood's high scorer was Jeffrey Jacoby with 16 points and Nick Wynne had 6 points. Jeffrey Jacoby was the outstanding shooter for the game.
In a hard-fought and well-played game by both teams, Ballenger Creek took a varisty win over Catoctin with a 54-53 final score. Catoctin led throughout the entire game, but lost in the final minutes. Top scorer was Derek Macierowski from Ballenger Creek, with 18 points. Konner Gubler scored 12 points, and Brandon Willett scored 10 points. For Catoctin, Nick Maxey scored 15 points, Landon Routzahn scored 14 points and Austin Carter scored nine points. Austin also made 83% of his free-throw shots.
Ballenger Creek jayvee used a 22-0 run in the second half to break open a close game and went on to beat Catoctin 52-22. Ballenger Creek was led by the strong inside play of John Cappolella who had 22 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter. Ali Azez and Mark Hoy chipped in 10 points each. Josh Laramore led Catoctin with seven points, including two three-pointers and Garret Sprankle added six points, three rebounds and two steals. Brad Little had a strong night under the boards and added four rebounds. Catoctin welcomed back Michael Fairley, who had missed six games with a broken hand.
Mt.Airy varsity defeated Oakdale 54-51. With several lead changes in the first quarter the quarter ended in a 15-15 tie. Oakdale took a 7 point lead into the half 32-25. Mt.Airy responded by out scoring Oakdale by 12 in the third quarter to take a 45-40 lead. Oakdale was led by Kyle Carpenter's and Tanner Mill's 10 points each and Vince Croce's 16. Logan Malane had eight, Jake Phillps 10 and Ryan McTavish had 20 point for Mt.Airy.
Mt.Airy jayvee's defeated Oakdale 50-34. Mt.Airy led at the end of the first quarter 13-8. Oakdale cut the lead at the half to one, 23-22. Mt.Airy came out in the third quarter and outscored Oakdale by 12 to take a 39-26 lead. Oakdale was led by Jacob Giangliuli eight points and Ben Bowmand's 12. Ryan Tate had eight points, NIc Cimino and Carson Dugstad each had six points while Chad Ringold added 10 and Gavin McTavish added 14 points.

Kendall Pitts was the leading scorer for TJ with 13 points. The score was 29-10 at intermission. Bradley Mehl played solid for TJ with 9 points. Bobby Ordonic led St. John's with 9 points.

Varsity - West Fred 36 Crestwood 50. Crestwood jumped out to a 20-6 first quarter lead, and held off West Frederick for a 50-36 victory. After the first quarter, West Frederick chipped away and cut the lead to seven points at the end of the third quarter, 36-29. West Frederick cut the lead to three before Crestwood turned up the pressure to go on for the win. Andrew Rollins and Trayvon Hoy led Crestwood with 16 and 11 points respectively. Sky Baron had a great game for West Frederick, scoring 15 points.

After a close first quarter with Ballenger and Folly quarters tied at eight a piece, the Bulldogs went on a 12-3 run in the second quarter with a led at the half of 28-19. Folly Quarters fought to cut down the Bulldogs lead in the 3rd quarter and was down by 5. The Bulldogs were led by John Cappollella with 12 points and Mark Hoy chipped in 10 points and teammate Ali Azez added seven points for the winners. The Falcons were led by Blake Heuer with nine points and teammates Davis Grove and Michael Nicastro each added eights points.
Walkersville varsity 42 Crestwood 41. Walkersville jumped out to an early 14-9 lead against inter-division rival Crestwood behind the 9 first quarter points of James Hughes, and effective full court pressure. Crestwood guard Shakil Smith kept Crestwood close with 6 first half points through dribble penetration, with the half time score 23-17 in the Lion's favor. Shakil ended the game with 10 points, tying teammate Trayvon Hoy for the Crestwood point production lead. Walkersville maintained a 7 point advantage through three quarters, however in the fourth quarter Crestwood's John Thomas contributed 7 points off the bench to close the gap. Andrew Rollins added 7 points to Crestwood's total. For Walkersville, ball control and timely shooting made the difference as the Lions' held on for the one point victory. Walkersville's Orlando Rosa led all scorer's with 11 points, and Ray Ferguson (8 points) and Xavier Stewart (6 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals) rounded out the Walkersville attack. James Hughes added 7 rebounds to his 9 points, and Quentin Ezell added 6 rebounds.
Crestwood jayveee 37 Walkersville 28. Crestwood took advantage of eight Lion third quarter turnovers and poor shooting to go on a 10-2 run after trailing by one at half time.Crestwood was led by Bracy Simmons (12 points) while Kevin Kidwell chipped in 8. The Lions kept it close into the fourth, but shot just 50% from the free throw stripe in the period matching Crestwood's effort from the feild and were unable to close the gap. Walkersville was led by Ben Bandy's 8 points and 3 steals while Jacob Miller added 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
Brunswick defeated Middletown's varsity 49-24. The first quarter ended 10-10. Brunswick was led by Anthony Chapouris four points and Middletown's with Sam Michaels four points. The second quarter was a defensive struggle as only six points was scored between the two teams. The first half ended with the Railroaders leading 15-11. In the second half, Brunswick turned up their pressure defense and forced several turnovers. They were led by DeShaun Imes and his 10 points in the quarter. That proved to be the knockout punch as the Railroaders cruised to a 49-24 victory and sweeping the season series with the Knight's. C.J. Hankle and DeShaun Imes led all scores with 10 points apiece. The Knights were led by Chris Pirrone and his nine points.
The jayvee knights had a great shooting night from Zack Fontenot with 10 points. Michael Pritts and Ben Lewis chipped in 7 points each to add to another strong team victory. Brunswick put up a good battle as aways. Alex Pagel lead brunswick with 6 points. Middletown jayvee 47 Brunswick 23.
Monocacy jayvee beat MSD in a hotly contested game, 32 - 30. In the second quarter, Monocacy led by as many as nine points. MSD never gave up and caught up to within three points at halftime (16-13). MSD went ahead by one point in the fourth quarter, but Monocacy's free throws pulled the game out for them. Monocacy was led by Paul McLister with 17 points. Jordan Yarborough scored seven points. MSD was led by Derek Frank with 12 points. Zack Barron and James Steingieser had eight points apiece and Tyler Lewis had six rebounds.
Varsity - Monocacy 65 MSD 21. Monocacy exploded with 17 to 2 run in the first quarter. MSD was unable to keep up. Connor Joos led his team with his 15 points. Lamont Wims contributed his 12 points. Ethan Kramer scored 11 points for MSD.
In a very intense game, Crestwood's varsity defeated Oakdale 39-31. Both teams came out aggressive in the first quarter and battled to an 11-10 Crestwood lead. Crestwood took control in the second quarter and led at the half 20-13, led by Trayvon Hoy with ten first half points. Crestwood maintained a six to eight point lead most of the third quarter and entered the fourth quarter up 33-25. Things then got heated in the fourth quarter as Oakdale battled and cut the lead to five points, but that's as close as they would get. Shakil Smith-Cain led the Cavaliers with 16 points. Trayvon Hoy added 14 points. Vince Croce led the Eagles with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Kyle Carpenter added nine points.
Jayvee - Crestwood 42 Oakdale 30. A closely played match until Crestwood pulled away in the third, lead by the scoring of Bracy Simmons who threw in 8 in the quarter. The Cavaliers outscored the eagles 18-8. Bracy added five throughout the rest of the game for 13 total. Crestwood's big man inside, Kevin Kidwell, lead all scorers with 14. Oakdale's 12 for 19 from the charity stripe was not enough to overcome 30 turnovers pressed by the Cavaliers defense. Clay Alldredge and Jacob Giangiuli both had 7 points for the Eagles and Ben Bowman added 6 of his own.
The Glenwood varsity remained unbeaten with a dominating 67 to 29 win at Folly Quarter. Glenwood's big man Eric Siegried led all scorers and was strong inside with 16 points and at least ten blocks. Glenwood's perimeter players capitalized on quick outlet passes and fast breaks. All players on both teams scored in the game. Also contributing for Glenwood was Matt Hyer with 10 points, Scott Dziwalski with nine points and Brendon McMahon with eight points. Folly Quarter was led by Michael Arensmeier with eight points and 13 rebounds. Adam Ko was aggressive off the bench in the loss.
Folly Quarter used second half defensive pressure and a balanced offense to defeat Glenwood's jayvees 37 - 26. Folly Quarter was behind at half 13 - 11 with Blake Heuer having 9 of FQMS points in the half. In the second half Logan Dubbe hit 3 straight baseline jump shots to help Folly Quarter eventually take control of the game. Glenwood was lead by Jeffrey Jacoby with 9 points while Joseph Tolbert and Anthony Arnette chipped in 7. Folly Quarter was lead by Blake Heuer who finished with 11 points. Logan Dubbe, Davis Grove and Michael Nicastro added 8 points apiece.
Urbana led 25-0 after the first quarter on their way to a 48-16 jayvee victory. Michael Spahr and Chris Discuillo led the Hawks with 8 points each, while Thomas Utt and James Jaworski contributed 7 points a piece. The Railroaders were led in scoring by Ian Fischer with 6 points.

Monocacy varsity held Linganore to 4 points in the second quarter and went on to a 60 to 41 victory. Monocacy was led by Lamont Wims and Scott Deandre who both had 16 points while Jacob Park also chipped in 10. Linganore was led by Kyle Warholic with 13 points.
Jayvee - Linganore 51 Monocacy 39. In a fast paced contest the Junior Lancers ran by the Monocacy by a score of 51-39. The Lancers were paced by Matt Friebaum's 15 points and 5 steals. Luke Jackson chipped in 9 points for the Lancers to go along with his game leading 6 steals. Stephen Washabaugh and Tyler Beckwith each added 8 points for the Lancers. The Monocacy team was led by Paul Mclister's game high 18 points including three three pointers in the 4th quarter.
Varsity - Mt Airy 65 St Johns 35. Leading Scorers- Ryan McTavish 14 (Mt Airy) Trevor Wilks 9 (St Johns). Others with 10 or more- Jake Smith 13 (Mt Airy). Mt Airy jumped out early to a 24-13 1st quarter lead and although in the 2n quarter St Johns did cut the lead to 8, Mt Airy responded and went up by 20 at the half. St Johns could not climb back into the game despite a good effort.
Jayvee - Mt. Airy 35, St. John's 18. Mt. Airy hit 19 or 29 foul shots to seal the game against St. John's. Mt. Airy hit 7 of 10 foul shots in the first quarter to lead 12-2. St. John's made a run in the 3rd to cut it to 22-17 but failed to get any closer. Mt. Airy was led in scoring by Ryan Tate with 13 points, Carson Dugstad was 6-6 from the foul line scoring his 6 points. St. John's was lead by AJ Kenworthy and Phillip Reese who both scored 6 points.
Varsity - West Frederick 30 WKMS 21. The Cadets came out with a very aggressive half court trap, take a slim four to one lead in the first quarter and would never look back in a 30 to 21 win over the Hawks. With a complete team effort on the defensive end the Cadets would build leads of 18 to nine at the half and 21 to 10 at the end of three quarters. The Hawks would make a run and cut the lead to six with two minutes left behind Thomas Stuart scoring four of his team leading nine points, but George Snowden would go four for four from the charity stripe to secure the win for the Cadets. Sky Baron was a dominant force inside for West Frederick scoring 18. Phillip Schmidt would chip in five for the Hawks.
The Hawks and the Cadets played a hard fought jayvee contest with the Cadets using their inside strength to come away with a 46-35 victory. The first quarter was well played by both teams and tied at 10-10. The Cadets turned up the defensive pressure in the second quarter and outscored the Hawks 12-4 to take a 22-14 half time lead. The Hawks would not go away and cut the lead to 8 in the 4th quarter but Jalen Gee scored 10 of his 14 points in the 4th quarter to seal the victory. Nigel Fender and Ryan Kennedy had outstanding efforts for the Cadets finishing with 10 and 9 points. Connor Corbit was big on the boards for the Cadets and also scored 7. The Hawks Ervin Liang had an outstanding game and led all scorers with a game high 15.
Walkersville defeated Middletown's varsity 41-32. In a tough fought first half, Walkersville was led by the sharp shooting of Andrew Voorhis and his six points. Middletown was led by the two three pointers of Chris Pirrone who ended the half with six points as Walkersville led 17-15 at the half. In the second half, Pirrone led a strong Middletown attack with eight points in the third quarter as Middletown took their first lead of the game 27-26 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter belonged to Walkersville and Orlando Rusa. Rusa torched the Knights for 14 points in the quarter including two clutch three pointers. Rusa led Walkersville with 17 points, Andrew Voorhis added 10 and Middletown's Chris Pirrone led all scorers with 19 points.
The Middletown Jayvee Knights pulled away in the second half and posted a 39-19 win over the visiting Walkersville Lions. The Lions had it close at halftime at 16-9. The Lions were paced by Devin Bell and his eight points along with Jacob Miller and his four. Ben Lewis took over in the second half and tallied 14 along with Zack Fontenot who netted ten for Middletown. Colin Delauter played strong basketball as well for the Knights and added five in the paint while Michael Pritts chipped in eight from everywhere in a very balanced Knight attack.
Mt.Airy varsity defeated MSD 49-30. Mt.Airy jumped to a first quarter 18-6 lead and led 28-13 at the half. MSD was led by Ethan Kramer's 13 points followed by Todd Rewolinski's eight points. Jake Phillips tossed in 12 points followed by Jeff Martin's 10 points and Ryan McTavish's eight points.
MSD's jayvees defeated Mt.Airy 27-15. Both teams got off to a slow start with MSD leading 6-4 at the end of the first quarter. MSD held Mt.Airy scoreless in the second quarter and took a 10-4 lead into halftime. MSD extended their lead by 16 to the end of the 3rd quarter which was to much for Mt. Airy to overcome. MSD was led by Derek Frauks' 11 points and James Steingieser 9 points. Mt. Ariy was led by Gavin McTavish with 6 points and Ryan Tate with 4 points.
Early foul trouble put Oakdale's varsity big men on the bench in the first half and a scrappy Brunswick team kept the game close. Oakdale led at the half 19-14. Oakdale surged late in the third quarter to an 11-point lead only to see the Brunswick defense, led by DeShaun Imes, frustrate Oakdale and cut the lead to five points late in the 4th quarter. A few fortunate bounces allowed Oakdale to escape with a 38-32 victory. Poor free throw shooting also aided in the Railroaders comeback as Oakdale shot 5-for-17 from the foul line, including 3-for-9 in the 4th quarter. Brunswick was led by their backcourt of Imes and Anthony Chapuuris with seven points each and both played strong defense. Oakdale was led by Juan Retana who had ten points, seven assists and five rebounds versus tremendous pressure from Imes. Vince Croce added 11 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Kyle Carpenter continued his hot three-point shooting chipping in three three-pointers for nine points.
Jayvee - Oakdale 33 Brunswick 31. Brunswick jumped out to a 10 point lead early in the first half, lead by their top scorer ian fisher with 11. oakdale's second half rejuvenated defense stepped up a notch with 15 steals to close the gap and go onto win a close one in the end. stefen hirabayaahsi added 7 for the roaders. 22 rebounds between ben bowman, clay allldredge and jake giangiuli lead the way on the boards. while ben bowman lead all scorers with 17 and clay alldredge added 9 of his own.
Glenwood varsity rolled past Catoctin 67-42. During the first quarter, the Cougars trailed by four in a fast-paced game. Glenwood played an up-tempo, aggressive style game. Their offense and defense proved to be more than Catoctin could handle. Nick Krstanovic led the Cougars with 15 points and a strong rebound effort. Nick Maxey added 11 points and also added rebounds and steals. Landon Routzahn had seven points and Garrett Ellis chipped in with five points. For Glenwood, four players scored in double figures. Matthew Hyer led Glenwood with 17 points, followed by Scott Dziwalski with 12 points, and Brendan McMahon and Nathan Gorey each with 11 points.
Catoctin and Glenwood jayvees squared off in an inter-conference match-up with Glenwood coming out on top 57-30. Despite Glenwood's size advantage, Catoctin hung with them through most of the first half, until Glenwood pulled away to a 10 point right before halftime. Glenwood caught fire in the second half, grabbing a comfortable lead and never relinquishing. Glenwood's Nicholas Wynne led all scorers with 13 points. Joseph Tolbert added another 11. Josh Laramore led Catoctin with 9 points and Harlan Lawson had 6. Garrett Sprankle led the Cougars with 4 rebounds.
West Frederick Varsity defeated St Johns 45-18. With a balance offense and a strong defense West Frederick was able to take and keep the lead. The score was 24-10 at the half. High scorer for Frederick was Daniel Samick with 15 points,Lakota Tow with 11 Points. Leonard Worsham with a difficult 3 David Nowalk added 6 points while Matthew Grimes added 4, Khin, Williams and Leishman also added 2 points each. St Johns Cook had 7 points while Kelly added 5 points, Sherman added 4 and Schatz 2 points.
West Frederick jayvee lead from start to finish by using intense full court pressure. The Cadets were led by Jalen Gee with 24 points and Nigel Fender with 12 points. St Johns was lead by Travis Deckert with 6 points. The finial score was West Frederick 57 and St Johns 15.
Varsity - TJ 58 Folly Quarters 34. In a game closer then the score indicates, TJ outscored the visitors 36 -18 in the second half to break the game open. Folly Quarters stayed close trailing at half-time 22-16. Joe Atmonavage hit three-3's in the 3rd period and finished with 13pts. Brain Chase played excellent defense also adding 13pts, DJ Ansbro chipped in 10 for the Pats as well. Zac Brightbill lead Folly Quarters with 14pts.
TJ started the jayvee game with good defensive pressure to take a 31-18 half-time lead. Bradely Mehl had 14 of his game high 18 in the half including three-3 pointers. Also for the Pats, Ken Wims and Tyler Tremaine chipped in 16 and 12 respectively. Folly Quarters had balanced scoring from Blake Heuer 11pts, Logan Dudde 9pts, Davis Grove 8pts, Jon Hogue 7pts.
Monocacy varsity used good defense and balanced scoring to defeat Winsor Knolls 56-24. Monocacy jumped out to 18 to 2 first quarter lead, and went on to beat the Hawks 56 to 26. The Mustang’s where led in scoring by LaMont Wims who led all scorers with 18 points, and six assists, followed by Jacob Park and Deandre Scott who both scored 12 points. Park also pulled down eight rebounds. Winsor Knolls was led in scoring by Aaron Bing eight points (1 three), William Duddleson six points (2 threes), and Kyle Joyce rounded out the scoring also scoring six points.
The Hawks' jayvee fast break was in high gear in the first quarter as they raced to a 16-4 led and a 30 -11 led at the half. Nick Phifer had a fast start hitting for 11 of his game high 22 in the first quarter as the Hawks led the entire game in route to a 52-34 victory.. Ervin Liang had a strong game scoring 7. The Hawks were the smaller team but Justin Ailstock dominated the boards the entire game for the undersized Hawks and also scored 6. Eleven players scored for the Hawks.
Crestwood's varsity used good defense and balanced scoring to defeat Urbana 49-35. Crestwood built double digit leads several times throughout the game, but Urbana, paced by the strong inside game of Patrick Walsh, kept battling back. Urbana was led by Walsh's 15 points. Nicolas Flanders chipped in with seven points for the Hawks. Crestwood was led by Andrew Rollins with 12 points. Shakil Smith and Charles Myers added 10 each, while Trayvon Hoy added eight points for the Cavs.
Urbana Took Crestwood's jayvees 52 to 18. Urbana jumped out in the 1st Quarter 13 to 2. The 2nd Quarter was just as good outscoring Crestwood 16 to 4. Crestwood made a run in the 3rd Quarter scoring 9 and Urbana scored 10. The forth Quarter Urbana picked it up again with a 13 to 3 run. The top scorers for Urbana were Jonathan Kaufman with 9, Kyler Rose with 8 and James Jaworski who also tosed in 8 points. Crestwood's top scorers were Taylor Hyssong with 6, Bracy Simmons with 3 and Zach Wathen with 3 as well.
The Varsity Bulldogs was in foul trouble the first quarter and the TJ went on the beat the Bulldogs with a final score of 39-31. With excellent shooting from Joe Atmonavage with 13 points and DJ Ansbro added 10 points and teammate Kelson Yearwood added nine points for the winners. The Bulldogs were led by game high scorer Arturo Gyles with 16 points and Derek Macierowski chipped in eight points.
The JV Bulldogs remains undefeated with a win over the Patriots with a score of 43-21. John Cappollella from the Bulldogs led all scores with 17 points and teammate Ali Azez added nine points for the winners. Greg Falconer was the high man for the Patriots with seven points.
MSD's jayvee, led by Derek Frank's 15 points and five rebounds, defeated TJ by a score of 34 to 28. Jesse Steingieser of MSD contributed nine points and six rebounds. Zack Barron chipped in with six points. TJ was led by Bradley Mehl with seven points, and Jerel English and Tyler Tremane both added six points apiece.
Varsity - TJ 39 MSD 22. TJ blew out their lead with 16 to 5 in the first guarter and controlled ahead of MSD. The game ended with 39 to 22 in favor of TJ. They did an outstanding job playing good defense preventing MSD from exceuting plays. They also played a good balanced offense attacks in the game. Edwin Billips led the team with 8 points. For MSD, Ethan Kramer and Todd Rewolinski scored 6 points each.
In a very close game TJ beat Linganore varsity 35-32. Linganore held a 3 point lead at half time but was unable to score consistently in the second half against an aggressive TJ defense. TJ was led by Joe Atmonavage's 12 points while D.J. Ansbro and Matt Lawrence also chipped in with 7 and 8 points each. Linganore was led by Ryan Santmyer's 12 points.
Jayvee - Linganore topped the Thomas Johnson Middle School team by a score of 46-24. The leading scorer for Linganore was Keith Kluetz with 12 points. Jerel English and Bradley Mehl of TJ each had 10 points.
Crestwood varsity came to Brunswick and left with a win 46-27. Crestwwod jumped out to a 7-3 first quarter lead and a 15-11 halftime lead in a well played first half with defense dominating both ways. Brunswick came out hot in the second half and cut the Crestwood lead to 2 points and then turned it over eight straight times without a shot. Crestwood cruised the rest of the way to finish with the 19 point victory. Crestwood had three scorers in double figures, Shakil Smith-Cain and Travon Hoy led all scorers with 12 pointseach and Andrew Rollins had 10. Matt Wanger led all Brunswick scorers with 7 points.
Jayvee - The final score was Crestwood 60, Brunswick 40. Brunswicks top scorers were Blain Price with 10 and Collin Nusbaum with eight. Crestwoods top scorers were Kevin Kidwell with 15 and Bracy Simmons contributing 12.
Varsity - Urbana defeated Middletown 39-37. In the first half, Urbana was led by the strong inside play of Patrick Walsh. He had 11 points in the half. Nick Wolf added a spark for the Knights with four points in the second quarter. Urbana led 22-16 at the half. In the second half, Urbana built the led to 12 points by the end of the third, 34-22. Connor Cunningham's sharp shooting added five points in the quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Knights made a furious comeback led by Chris Pirrone. He had 12 points in the quarter and the Knights tied the game at 37-37, in the last 30 seconds. With nine seconds left, Walsh missed the front end of an one and one, Eric Deboy grabbed the rebound a sank a short jump shot to give Urbana the two point victory. Urbana was led by Patrick Walsh with 18 points and Chris Pirrone, for Middletown, led all scorers with 21 points, 11 of 13 from the free-throw line.
Urbana rolled into Middletown and brought the jayvee Knights back to earth with a 57-32 dominating performance. Middletown had no answer for the inside presence of the Hawks nor the up tempo speed game today. But most impressive was the shooting accuracy on display. Kyler Rose was spectacular netting 20 points. Matthew Lane ran the team beautifully and netted 11 points while Michael Madaras cleaned up the boards with ten points of his own. In defeat Michael Pritts scored 9 points for the Knights.
Varsity - Monocacy 55 St Johns 18. Leading Scorers- Lamont Wims 21 (monocacy) Nick Kelly & Garrett Cook 6 (St Johns). Other Scorers (more than 10)- Andre Scott 14 Mononcacy. Monocacy went on a decisive 2nd quarter run and put the game out of reach despite St Johns playing even for the 1st quarter and winning the 4th 11-9. St Johns was outmatched in both height and talent but still gave a good effort.
Jayvee - Monocacy 69, St. John's 27 Monocacy used the 3pt shot hitting 7 in the game. St. John's made a strong run in the second quarter to come within 12 points but a late Monocacy 10 point run pushed the half time lead to 36-14. Monocacy was led in scoring by Paul Mclister with 13 points, Daniel Medina and J. Harris both chipped in eight. St. John's was lead by AJ Kenworthy who scored 13 points, Travis Deckert had 7 points and Phillip Reese had 10 rebounds and recovered 3 loose balls for the Vikings.
The Catoctin Varsity team picked up their fourth win of the season 56-50 in a very physical game at Folly Quarter. Both teams came out playing strong with high intensity in the first quarter and the quarter ended with Catoctin leading 11 to 10. The second quarter belonged to Catoctin and Nick Maxey. During the second quarter alone, Nick Maxey scored 19 points and behind this great effort Catoctin finished ahead at half 39-27. The home team Folly Quarter Falcons closed the lead slightly in the 3rd quarter but still trailed at the end of three - 49-39. Catoctin kept their composure and closed out the win despite continued pressure by the Falcons in the 4th quarter. Catoctin was led by Nick Maxey who finished with 23 points. Landon Routzahn added 15 points in the win. Folly Quarter was led by Scott Heydrick with 21 and Austin McWethy added 15.
The Junior Varsity Folly Quarter Falcons used an aggressive defense and balanced offense to defeat Catoctin 56-37. Folly Quarter raced out to lead of 14 - 4 in the 1st quarter and increased the lead in the 2nd quarter to 30 - 14. However, Catoctin used a full court press to reduce the lead to 10 points mid-way through the 3rd quarter but the Falcons were able to extend the lead in the 4th quarter. Every player on each team scored at least a point in the game! Catoctin was led by Garrett Sprankle who had 10 points with Aaron Barker and Troy Hauck scoring 6 and 4 respectively. Folly Quarter's balanced attack was led by Blake Heuer and Michael Nicastro with 10 points and Davis Grove chipping in 8 points. James Wood and Dan Grimes contributed strong rebounding for the FQMS team.
Varsity - TJ 33 Monocacy 41. A 10-2 lead by Monocacy after the first prove to be the difference in the game. In a hard fought game, the Cougars made 5 straight free throws down the stretch. Monocacy's Lamont Wims lead all scorer with 11 including 7 free throws. Kelson Yearwood added 8 for the Pats. TJ closed the lead to 4 in the 4th, but Monocay pulled away. Trevon Randolph and Jacob Park chipped in 8 apiece.
JV - TJ 26 Monocacy 45. Monocacy jumped to a 6-4 lead in first quarter. Paul McLister led the way with 10 of his game high 16 in the Half. A 22-11 run by the cougars in the 2nd quarter broke the game open. Tyler Tremainer lead the Pats with 7. TJ played played a better 2nd half but never got close. Jordan Yarborough added 7 for Monocacy.
Mt. Airy varsity picked up its first win of the season by beating Folly Quarter at home 59-50. Mt. Airy led at half time 36 - 23. Both teams traded baskets for most of the second half as Folly Quarter got no closer than seven. Leading the way for Folly Quarter was Scott Heydrick 14 points and Zack Scott nine points. Mt. Airy had all their players score and were led by Ryan McTavish's 15 points followed by Jake Phillips and David Mellstom's eight.
Folly Quarter jayvee defeated Mt.Airy 38-27. Folly Quarter jumped to a 10-3 lead after the first period and never looked back. Taking a 21-14 lead into halftime and extending the lead by 12 at the end of the 3rd quarter, 31-19. Folly Quarter was led by Blake Hauer's 10 points while Jon Hogue and Davis Grove added eight points and six points apiece. Mt.Airy's Gavin McTavish tossed in 10 points while Carson Dugstad and Ryan Tate added seven and six points.
In a hard-fought varsity game, West Frederick defeated Catoctin to take a 50-40 victory. The first half closed with West Frederick leading 22-20. Strong rebounding, and aggressive defense was displayed by both teams. During the last three minutes of the fourth quarter, West Frederick pulled away for the win. West Frederick was led by Stefon Diggs, the game's high scorer, with 14 points. Sky Barron had 10 points, George Snowden eight points, and Gavin Hughes seven points. Lakota Tow, David Nowalk, and Davonte Williams added the remaining points. For the Cougars, Nick Maxey led the team in rebounding, scoring, and steals. He scored 13 points in a tremendous all-around performance. Nick Krstanovic added nine points and some key rebounds. Landon Routzahn scored seven points, Patrick O' Brien scored five points, Austin Carter scored four points, and Ben Tylicki scored two points.
Size, speed and athleticism proved a deadly combination as West Frederick Jayvees defeated Catoctin 62-27. Jalen Gee led all scorers with 18 points for West Frederick. Nigel Fender had 11 points and Ryan Kennedy added 10. West Frederick started the first quarter with a flurry of scoring off of their press, jumping to a large early lead and Catoctin couldn't recover. Aaron Barker led Catoctin in scoring with seven points, followed by Alex Kennedy with 5 ponts and Garrett Sprankle and Tyler Smith with four each (Smith going four-for-four from the line). Garrett Sprankle also led the team with five rebounds.
The Glenwood Varsity team extended it's record to 3 and 0 with a 59 to 25 win over Piedmont Division rival MSD. Glenwood again played up tempo, pushing the ball up the court and playing full court man to man defense. MSD was again playing without last years leading scorer and team leader Todd Bonheyo who has been forced to watch the action from the bench with his foot in a cast. Glenwood was lead by center Erik Siegfried with 19 points followed by Matthew Hyer with 13, Colin Osborne with 9, Scott Dziwulski with 7 and Brendan McMahon with 6. Shawn Harrington lead MSD with 16 points and Todd Rewoliski chipped in 4.
JV - Glenwood 30 MSD 29. High scorers for Glenwood Jeff Jacoby 9 points and Anthony Arnette 8 points. High scorers for MSD Jesse Steingieser 13 points and Frank with 7 points. The game came down to seconds with foul shots with Joseph Tolbert making both of his foul shots with 16 seconds left in the game. MSD passed the ball in, brought it down court to the right base line with Glenwood's Golden Trawick causing a turn over. The game was a defensive battle throughout.
Varsity - WK 46 - Linganore 42. In a game of scoring runs, Windsor Knolls withstands a late run by the Lancers in hard fought game to get the 46-42 win. After the first quarter of play the Hawks had the advantage at 12-5 with Phillip Schmidt going five for five from the charity stripe. The Hawks, with Aaron Bing scoring nine points, who led all scorers with 22, would jump out to a 14 point lead in the second, only to se the Lancers turn up the defensive pressure and behind Mike Wirtz five points, cut the lead to six at the break. Linganore would score the first three baskets in the third and tie the score at 26, then Windsor Knolls had ther own run to end the third with a 35 - 28 advantage. The Hawks and Lancers would trade baskets in the fourth with the Hawks hanging on for the win. Mike Wirtz was high scorer for Linganore 10, and Ryan Santmmeyer would add nine. Kyle Joyce chipped in 15 for the Hawks.
Jayvee - The Lancers dominated the boards and held on for a 33-31 victory over the Hawks. The contest was close the entire game the- largest lead being 6 points for the Lancers. Ryan Hall led the Lancers with 11 points and a strong game on the boards. Luke Jackson had an excellent game driving to the basket and finished with 8. Clay Conner chipped in 6 for the Lancers. The Hawks fought hard cutting into the Lancers lead in the 3rd quarter but poor foul shooting hurt the Hawks. Nick Peifer led the Hawks with 11. Justin Ailstock fought hard on the boards and finished with 7 along with Tucker Morgan also with 7.
Zach Zapata had 17 points and Poolsville Varsity held of Urbana Middle 46 to 38. Spencer Parks also scored 9 points for the winners. Connor Cunningham had 3 trey's and 11 points and Dillon Gardner also contributed 8 points for Urbana.
Jayvee - Urbana 51 - Poolesville 22. Urbana jumped out to a 26-6 halftime lead on strong defense and rebounding, on their way to a 51-22 win. The Hawks were led by Kyler Rose with 11, James Jaworski with 8, Mike Madaras with 7 and Matt Lane with 6 points. Poolesville leading scorers were Brendan Carney, Collin Turner and Mike Kasner with 4 points each.
Crestwood's varsity held of a great second half rally to defeat Poolesville 41-38. Crestwood jumped out to a quick 11-2 lead after one quarter and led by five at the half. Crestwood extended its lead to 11 in the third quarter. Poolesville fought back, led by the inside play of Zach Zapata who finished with 16 points, to take the lead in the fourth quarter. Crestwood came back, helped by a big three-pointer from Shakil Smith to take back the lead and hold off the Falcons. In addition to Zapata's 16, Tyler Holston chipped in with 10 points for Poolesville. Trayvon Hoy led Crestwood with 16 points. Andrew Rollins scored eight points and Smith added seven for the winners.
Poolesville won the jayvee contest 39-29. In the first quarter, Poolesville jumped out 10-4 over the Cavaliers. At halftime the score was 19-14 in favor of Poolesville. In the third quarter Crestwood made a run and tied the game up at 26-26. Poolesville pulled it together and scored 13-3 in the forth quarter and handed Crestwood it's second loss of the season. The top scorers for Poolesville were Collin Turner with 14 followed by Ean Addison with 9 and Clint Cornell with 6. For Crestwood the top scorers were Kevin Kidwell with 12 followed by Demontrez Palmer with 8.
Ballenger Creek defeated West Frederick's varsity 58-49. After the first quarter the Bulldogs led 15-13 and was tied at 24 going into the half and also tied at 40 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The bulldogs rallied to score 18 points in the 4th quarter to take the win over the Cadets. The Bulldogs were led by Arturo Gyles and Derek Macierowski who both shared 18 points apiece and Konnor Gubler added 16 points for the winners. West Frederick was led by Sky Baron who had 15 points and teammates George Snowden and Davonte Williams had nine points apiece and Stefon Diggs added 8 for the Cadets.
The jayvee Bulldogs remained unbeaten with a 62-56 win. They trailed 18-8 in the first quarter, but fought back in the second quarter to go in the half trailing 26-25. The Bulldogs attacked the boards scoring 18 points in the 4th to take the win. The Bulldogs were led by their big man John Cappolella with 20 points and teammate Ali Azez added 12 points and Ryan Grant and Zach Woodward added nine points apiece for the winners. West Frederick was led by game-high scorer Jalen Gee who attacked the boards with 29 points and his teammate Nisel Fender chipped in 17 points for the Cadets.
MSD's varsity picked up its first win of the year, 34-21 against St. John's. At end of first quarter, the teams we were tied 4-4. MSD escaped with a 12-2 run in the second quarter and increased the lead to 20 points at the end of third quarter. Shawn Harrington led the MSD team with 11 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Ethan Kramer contributed seven points and three assists. Eric Setzer topped with 15 rebounds. Todd Rewolinski helped MSD with eight steals and three assists. For St. John's, Gabe Sherman, Trevor Wilks and Nick Kelly scored six points each.
MSD's jayvee defeated St. John's 35-18. Jesse Steingieser of MSD led all scorers with 17 points and 14 rebounds and Derek Frank contributed 12 points. Tyler Lewis of MSD had four rebounds. St. John's was led by Bobby Ordonio who scored six points. Travis Deckent and EJ Wrzeinski scored three points apiece.
Walkersville bolted to a 14-5 first quarter lead and went on to a 35-27 varsity win against a tough Oakdale Eagles squad in their first intra-division matchup. Oakdale sharpshooter Kyle Carpenter led all scorers with 15 points (five three-pointers), nine of them down the stretch as the Eagles closed a 14-point Walkersville lead. Vince Croce added seven points for Oakdale. However, the steady play of James Hughes (12 points, six rebounds, five steals), Xavier Stewart (five points, eight rebounds), Ricky Pardo (five points) and balanced Walkersville attack (seven players scored) and defense proved too much for the visitors.
The Lions' jayvee jumped out early downed Oakdale 49-13. Walkersville held Oakdale scoreless in the first quarter. Led early by Ben Bandy who finished with ten points, Walkersville stayed aggressive allowing only six points in the second quarter and led at halftime 22-6. Walkersville's bench showed improvement in the second half scoring twenty seven points (led by Justin Joyce, 10 points) and holding Oakdale to only seven. The Lions were led in rebounding by Jacob Miller (9) and Matt Hawkins (8). Walkersville's Devin Bell and Alex Rodriguez shared steal honors with three each.
Catoctin got off to a fast start and defeated St. John's 60-40 on the varsity level. The Cougars led by eight at the end of one, then built the lead to 18 at the half. St. John's pressed their way back into the game with a 23-14 third quarter run, cutting the lead to nine. Catoctin then went on a run of their own, 14-3, and put the game out of reach. Both teams played with alot of intensity. Leading Scorers- Landon Routzahn, 24 (Catoctin) Trevor Wilks & Nick Kelly, 11 each (St. John's). Other scorers (10 or more)- Nick Maxey 14 (Catoctin), Gabe Sherman 10 (St Johns). Leading Rebounders- Nick Krstanovic, eight (Catoctin), Garrett Cook 10, St. John's. Leading in steals- Nick Maxey, four (Catoctin); Nick Kelly, six (St. John's).
Catoctin won the jayvee game 33-16. The report did not meet League standards.
Glenwood's varsity held off a furious fourth-quarter rally by Mt. Airy to improve their record to 2-0 in the Piedmont division. Glenwood's Matthew Hyer led all scorers with 21 points, most coming off a fastbreak offense, and the Cobras' Erik Siegfried (4 points, 12 rebounds, 4 blocked shots), Nathan Gorey (6 points) and Brendan McMahon (6 points, 8 rebounds) crashed the boards and fired outlet passes to breaking guards Colin Osborne (5 points, 3 assists), Danny Napolitano (3 points, 5 assists), Sam Salmeron (6 points) and Zack LePage (2 points). Glenwood led 9-4 after the first period and extended that to 23-11 at the half. With both teams playing full court defense and fastbreaking, Glenwood was able to extend its lead to 40-19 going into the final period. Colin Osborne converted a three-point play on a pull-up jump shot from the right baseline, adding the free throw for what would seem to be an insurmountable 23-point lead with 5:23 left in the game. But Mt. Airy called timeout and then Ryan McTavish and Jake Phillips took control of the game, combining for 20 of the Bulldogs' 24 fourth-quarter points. McTavish registered eight of his team-high 16 points in the period and Phillips caught fire for 12 of his 14 points in the furious charge that cut the lead to nine within three minutes. That was as close as the Bulldogs would come as Hyer hit a baseline jumpshot and Salmeron converted a left-handed drive as the teams traded baskets for the final outcome of 53-43.
Glenwood won the jayvee game 37-33. The report did not meet League standards.
Oakdale's varsity defeated Poolesville by a final score of 37-33. The Eagles were pushed to the win by the inside play of Vince Croce (15 points), the floor leadership of second year varsity guard Juan Retana (five points, four steals) and the all-round play of Ryan Staley (eight points). Poolesville's big men Zach Zapata (11 points) and Spencer Barks (six points) kept Poolesville in the game all night long. They were aided by the outside shooting of Brian Hammett and Charlie Smith with six points each.
In a well-played jayvee game, Poolesville scored four points in the last minute to overcome a one-point deficit and defeat Oakdale by a final score of 23-21. Zach Sneed scored on a put-back and hit a free throw to win the game for the Falcons. Poolesville's Brendan Carney (four points) hit a free throw to put the icing on the win. The homestanding Falcons barely withstood the fourth quarter pressure brought on by Oakdale's big man Clay Allredge. Allredge scored seven points (all in the fourth quarter) and grabbed eight rebounds. Ben Bowman scored five points for the Eagles and Isaiah Harper and Julian Coiner added four points each for the visitors. Poolesville got balanced scoring with points also coming from Collin Turner (four points, six rebounds), Clint Cornell (five points, three rounds) and four other players.
The Brunswick varsity team held off a hard nosed Middletown team who battled to the end 39-35. In a game filled with mistakes and turnovers, Brunswick built leads and then gave them away. C.J. Shankle led Brunswick with 10 points. Sam Michels and Chris Pirrone led Middletown with nine and eight points, respectively.
Middletown defeated the Brunswick jayvee team 40-18. Ben Lewis carried Middletown with 20 points. Alex Pagel lead Brunswick scorers with six. Middletown jumped up 14-1 in the first quarter and Brunswick could never recover. Middletown started the second half with a 21-5 lead. Brunswick showed alot of heart in the second half, but the Middletown squad was just too much.
Varsity - Walkersville 63, Urbana 20. Walkersville went up by 10 points at the end of the first half and led 28-18. The Lions then came out with a blistering third quarter, outscoring the Hawks 22-2. Walkersville had a balanced scoring attack led by James Hughes with 10, Orlando Rosa with nine and Raynell Ferguson with eight. Urbana was led in scoring by Patrick Walsh with seven points and Nick Twilley with four points.
JV - Urbana 46, Walkersville 29. Urbana used strong inside play to take a 10 point lead into halftime against a tough Walkersville team. The Hawks were able to extend the lead through the third and fourth quarters to pull away from the Lions. Urbana was led in scoring by James Jaworski with 21 points and Matt Lane chipped in seven. Ben Bandy played an outstanding game at point and led the Lions with 13 points.
Windsor Knolls' varsity defeated Ballenger Creek 45-33. Both teams came out shooting well with Ballenger taking a first quarter lead of 13-10 with Konnor Gabler scoring four points for Ballenger and Phillip Schmidt throwing in six for the Hawks. The Bulldogs cooled off a bit and the Hawks went in to the half with a 21-17 advantage. The Hawks extended the lead to 10 in the third with Aaron Bing scoring five and Will Duddleson adding four. With Derek Macicrowski scoring six points in the final period, the Bulldogs were able to make a run but the Hawks made some clutch free throws to secure the win. Macicrowski led the Bulldogs with 12 points and Arturo Giles added nine. Bing had 17 points with Duddleson chipping in 10.
The Bulldogs outscored the Hawks 14-2 in the fourth quarter to break open a close jayvee contest in route to a 42-27 victory. The Hawks were behind early but closed the gap to two at the half, trailing 15-13. The Hawks played hard in the third quarter and at one point held a one point lead, but trailed 28-25 at the start of the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs' Mark Hoy took control in the fourth quarter, scoring nine of his game-high 21 points and Ballenger ran off eight unanswered points to build the lead to 36-25. The Hawks had no answer to the strong inside game of Hoy and Ali Azez who dominated the boards and scored eight points. The Hawks were led by Tucker Morgan whose drives to the basket resulted in 8-for-11 from the foul line and finished with 10 points. Russell Lohr added six points.
In a closely contest game, Linganore's varsity was able to pull away in the second half to defeat West Frederick 53-43. Linganore was led by the shooting of Michael Wirtz who had 22 points and inside play of Alex Anwar who had nine points. West Frederick was led in scoring by the inside play of Sky Baron with 19 points and Gavin Hughes also chipped in nine points.
West Frederick beat Linganore's jayvees by a score of 52-30. West Frederick's high scorer was Jalen Gee with 13 points while Nigel Fender added 11 points. Two Linganore players had seven points each - Ryan Hall and Garrett Fanning.
The inside-outside game of Vince Croce and Kyle Carpenter helped homestanding Oakdale break open a close game late in the third quarter to beat Urbana 48-28 on the varsity level. Oakdale led 19-7 late in the second quarter, but three-pointers by Connor Cunningham and Dylan Gardner in the last minute of the half cut the lead to 19-13. It was late in the third quarter when Carpenter's shooting and Croce's post game took over. To help the Oakdale offense, Juan Retana and Steven Bennett played great defense in the fourth quarter to shut down the outside three-point shooting of Cunningham and Gardner. Oakdale went on to outscore Urbana 14-4 in the fourth quarter. Croce and Carpenter led Oakdale with 22 points apiece. Carpenter had five three-pointers, four in the second half. Croce pulled down 15 rebounds. Retana added six assists. Gardner paced the Hawks with nine points on three three-pointers. Cunningham added eight points with two three-pointers. The game saw a total of 11 three-pointers made between the teams.
Urbana's fast push up the floor,their dominance on the boards and solid bench play proved too much for Oakdale's jayvee squad to overcome. In a 69-41 victory, Thomas Utt led the Hawks with 13 points, followed closely by Kyler Rose with 11 and Micheal Spahr with 10. Ben Bowman led the Eagles with 12 points and Clay Alldredge added nine.
Monocacy defeated Frederick's varsity by a score of 65-38. Monocacy had a strong offense led by Park with 15 points and Messinger with 13. West Frederick was led by Sky Baron with 15 points, Gavin Hughes with sevev, Lakota Tow with six, Leonard Worsham and Daniel Samick both with three, Stefon Diggs and Devonte' Wlliams both with two.
West Frederick's jayvee swept Monocacy 59-31. West Frederick played hard-nose man-to-man defense and jumped out to a 18-4 lead and never looked back. Jalen Gee led all scorers with 18 points for Frederick and Thomas had six points for Monocacy. Nigel Fender had 16 points and Tyler Pollard had 14 points, both for Frederick.
In varsity play, Catoctin dominated MSD with leads of over 20 points throughout the game before winning 54-41. Constant pressure and ten players scoring provided Catoctin with a solid victory. Eric Hobbs had five points, including the only three pointer for the Cougars. Landon Routzahn was high scorer for the Cougars with 11 points. Nick Maxey scored seven points and controlled the boards. Additional scoring by Roberto Alvarez, Patrick O'Brien, Kellan Maxey, Austin Carter, Ben Tylicki, Garrett Ellis and Nick Krstanovic secured Catocin's win. MSD's Shawn Harrington was the game's overall top scorer with 16 points. He also had an excellent rebounding game. Tod Rewolinski scored 11 points. Eris Setzer, Ethan Kramer, Justin Wiener and Myles Goldberg all scored for MSD.
The Catoctin jayvees had to battle several second-half rallies by MSD but secured their second win with a score of 35-29. Harlan Lawson led Catoctin with 11 points, including four points in five seconds late in the game on a layup-steal-layup sequence that helped seal the victory. Troy Houck also had a clutch basket in this stretch. Josh Laramore had another all-round performance with seven points and three assists. He and Ryan Delauter also led the team in rebounding with four apiece. Garrett Sprankle and Aaron Barker also had four points for the Cougars. In a game where Catoctin's half-court offense was flat, in part because of the defense of MSD's big men and its ball control strategy, Catoctin managed to pull into the lead with a tenacious full-court press, leading to fast-break buckets and putting the Cougars up by 10 at halftime. Despite the size advantage, the Cougars front court of Tyler Smith, Michael Fairley, Brad Little and Delauter were able to keep MSD's big men at bay. Little had a nifty up-and-under basket amongst MSD's big men. MSD fought back hard in the second half, cutting the lead to as few as three points with only four minutes left to play until Catoctin was finally able to put the game away with a series of steals and layups. Derek Frank of MSD led all scorers with 18 points and MSD's Jesse Steingieser poured in 11 points.
Windsor Knolls defeated TJ's varsity 48-37. The second quarter proved to be the difference in the game as Windsor Knolls outscored the home team 12-2. William Duddleson led the Hawks with a game-high 21 points, Kyle Joyce added 11. TJ cut the lead to four in the third quarter, but got no closer. D.J. Ansbro and Matt Lawrence chipped in 10 apiece for the Pats.
In the jayvee game, Windsor Knolls jumped to a 17-2 led after one and coasted to a 53-18 win. Nick Peifer led the Hawks with 16 points, Russel Lohr added 11. Jerel English had eight points for the Pats, Kendle Pitts added six.
Folly Quarter defeated St. John's 41-31 in varsity action. St. John's came out and played a great first quarter and led 10-1. Folly Quarter responded in the second quarter but St. John's continued to lead at the half, 15-13. Folly Quarter increased its full-court pressure in the third quarter and outscored St. John's 15-4 in the third to lead 28-19. St. John's had a balanced attack with fine guard play from Trevor Wilks with seven points, Nick Kelly with seven points and strong big man play from Gabe Sharman with six points and Garrett Cook with six points. Folly Quarter was led by Michael Arensmeier with 14 points and 14 rebounds and Zach Scott came off the bench to bury two three-pointers and had 11 points. Jamie McEvoy was strong inside with eight rebounds and four points and Kirby Smith and Ryan Aylward did a great job directing the offense from the point position.
The jayvee game was postponed due to late-arriving officials and will be rescheduled at a later date.
After several lead changes and a very close first half, Ballenger Creek pulled away in the second half to seal a varsity win against Linganore with a final score of 53-36. Ballenger was led by Konnor Gubler with a game-high 15 points and teammate Arturo Gyles added 13 points and Derek Macierowski chipped in 11 points for the winners. Linganore was led by Matthew Fratto and Ryan Santmyer who both put up eight points apiece.
Ballenger's jayvees led the whole game and never looked back. They beat Linganore with the final score of 43-22. John Cappolella of the Bulldogs was on fire as he led all scores with a game-high 22 points and teammate Mark Hoy chipped in nine points. Linganore was led by Ryan Hall with six points and Clay Conner added four points for the Lancers.
Crestwood used a balanced scoring attack and great pressure defense to defeat Middletown's varsity 41-28. Crestwood was led by Trayvon Hoy and Nat Puryear with nine points apiece. Shakil Smith and Andrew Rollins chipped in with eight and seven points, respectively. Charles Myers and John Thomas turned in great defensive efforts on the boards. Middletown was led by Chris Pirrone and Jared Curry with six points each.
Middletown jumped out to a 18-3 first quarter lead in the jayvee contest and cruised to a 49-21 victory over Crestwood. Ben Lewis poured in 21 points to lead the Knights. Michael Pritts added 10 points for the winners. Kevin Kidwell paced Crestwood with 12 points.
Walkersville's varsity overcame a talented Falcon squad 49-29 in the Lions season opener. Poolesville jumped to an early 8-5 first quarter lead behind the inside play of big man Zach Zapata, who led the Poolesville offense with 15 points in the paint. The Lions poured it on in the remaining three quarters with a balanced offensive attack. Walkersville forward Xavier Stewart led all scorers with 16 points, teammate Orlando Rosa dropped in 12 and Ray Ferguson balanced out the Lions scoring with 10.
Walkersville made clutch free throws and held Poolesville scoreless in overtime to win the jayvee game 30-22. Defense managed the first half with Walkersville up at halftime 10-8. Walkersville went on a third quarter 9-4 run led by Ben Bandy's aggressiveness. Poolesville finished out the fourth strong with a 10-3 run led by the outside shooting of Branden Carney to send the game to overtime. Poolesville was led in scoring by Carney (six points) with Chris Oyer and Dillin Hill-Addison chipping in four each. Walkersville was led in scoring by Bandy (six points), Jay Dennis (five points) and Jacob Miller (five points).
Folly Quarter took an advantage of many missed MSD shots from paint area and claimed a 39-37 varsity win in the season opener for both teams. FQ led 13-8 after one quarter by MSD came back and tied the score at 31-31 with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. MSD made just 15 of 60 field goal attempts and missed several shots from inside the paint. Scott Heydrick from Folly Quarter scored 14 points including a few easy lay-ups and Michael Arensmeier chipped in with ten points. Ethan Kramer scored 20 points for MSD. Also for the Orioles, Ethan Kramer had 10 rebounds and four steals. Shawn Harrington had five rebounds and four steals. Todd Rewolinski had four steals.
Folly Quarter's jayvee defeated MSD 42-28. At halftime the score was 17-7 in favor of Folly Quarter. MSD closed to within ten points before falling behind again. Folly Quarter was led by Blake Heuer with 11 points and Davis Grove with 10 points. MSD's Jesse Steingieser scored 18 points and had five rebounds while Derek Frank scored 10 points and had four steals.
Glenwood's varsity team started the season with a high-powered offensive attack and full court pressure to defeat a smaller but valiant St. John's team 72-9 at St. Michael's gym. Glenwood jumped out to a 16-0 first quarter lead and extended it to 28-2 at the half. A 24-point third quarter (including eight by Danny Napolitano and six each by Erik Siegfired and Scott Dziwulski) gave Glenwood a 62-2 lead going into the fourth quarter. St. John's did not give up as they were able to score seven points in the final period. Napolitano led all scorers with 12 points as five of the Cobras scored in double figures, including Brendan McMahon with 11 and Siegfried, Sam Salmeron and Dziwulski with 10 each. St. John's was led by Richard Davis with four points, Trevor Wicks with three and Nick Kelly with two.
In the jayvee game, Glenwood won 37-17. Nick Wynne was high scorer with ten points followed by Joe Tolbert with nine and Anthony Arnette with eight for Glenwood. Travis Detkert had five points followed by Robert Carova with three points and Kyle Knatt with three points for St. John's. Glenwood played well as a team but had a lot of turnovers. The first quarter was uneventful but was followed by three quarters of teamwork and consistent scoring by Glenwood.
The varsity game between Poolesville and Brunswick saw several lead changes throughout the contest, but the end result was a 46-42 Falcon win. Brunswick charged out to a 19-11 lead, then Poolesville came back to tie the game 19-all at the half. The Railroaders then opened up a 25-19 lead behind the tough inside-outside play of guard Deshaun Imes (four points, six assists) and big men Matt Wanger (nine points) and C.J. Shankle (ten points). The rest of the game, though, belonged to the big men of Poolesville as Spencer Barks (20 points) and Zach Zapata (11 points) controlled the boards and help deliver the win for Falcons. A.J. Fogle chipped in nine points for the Railroaders.
Poolesville's jayvee rolled up a seemingly safe 30-17 lead at the end of the third quarter in their season-opening contest against Brunswick. But the visiting Railroaders stormed back to within three with one minute left to play behind the hot guard play of Stephan Hirabayashi (two points, four assists). The Falcons held off the charge, however, as Brendan Carney stole the inbounds pass with ten seconds left to seal the 31-28 win for Poolesville. The Falcon's Collin Turner led all scorers with 15 points and teammate Ean Hill-Addison scored five points and hauled down seven rebounds. Brunswick was paced by eight points each from Alex Pagel (seven rebounds) and Blain Price (four rebounds, three steals).
Oakdale defeated Middletown 38-27 in varsity action. Oakdale dominated the boards, led by Vince Croce and his five first quarter points. He was complemented by the sharp shooting of Kyle Carpenter who added eight points in the first half. The Knights cut into the lead late in the first half led by Sam Michels seven points in the half. However, the inside game of Oakdale and the clutch foul shooting of big man Croce proved too much for the Knights. Oakdale was led by Croce (14 points) and Carpenter (11). The Knights were paced by Sam Michels with 11 points.
The Middletown jayvee Knights opened the season in impressive fashion with a 62-28 victory over Oakdale. The Knights were led by Michael Pritts who tallied an impressive 18 points, eight steals and three assists. Ben Lewis chipped in 11 points while grabbing five rebounds, making three steals and dishing out three assists of his own. All 14 of Middletown’s players played a significant amount of time while nine of Middletown’s 14 players got in the scorebook with Zack Fontenot and Colin Delauter also scoring seven points each. Oakdale was led by Ben Bowman and Clay Allridge with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Catoctin's varsity held off a late fourth quarter rally to defeat Mt. Airy, 49-46. Catoctin had a balanced scoring attack with six players scoring. Landon Routzahn led all scorers with 22 points. In the fourth quarter, Ben Tylicki sank three foul shots to ensure Catoctin’s victory. Catoctin had a strong rebounding game. Catoctin's Patrick O'Brien, Nick Maxey, Kellam Maxey, and Nick Krstanovic also scored. Mt. Airy’s Ryan McTavish scored 15 points while Jake Phillips scored 10 points, including two three-point shots. Ryan MacIvor, Pat Graessle, David Mellstrom, Jeff Martin and Logan Malane provided the additional points for Mt. Airy.
Catoctin's jayvees picked up a season opening win with a 42-35 victory over Mt. Airy. Aaron Barker finished with a team-high 11 points, followed by Alex Kennedy with 10 points and Harlan Lawson and Josh Laramore with six points each. Josh Laramore also had two key assists at a time when Mt. Airy was knocking on the door to get back in the game. Gavin McTavish led Mt. Airy with 14 points in the loss. Ryan Tate had seven points. Mt. Airy's big man also had several blocked shoots, pressuring the Cougars down low. Catoctin jumped out to the lead with a first-half press and transition game with TJ Raubaugh and Garrett Sprankle making some key steals and assists. After being down by double digits, Mt. Airy launched a solid comeback and cut the lead to six points with a few minutes left until Catoctin ultimately prevailed. Foul shooting was a key to the game as Catoctin went 12 for 19 from the line with Ryan Delauter going 4 for 4.
Ballenger Creek scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to defeat Monocacy's varsity 54-46. Ballenger was led in scoring by Arturo (23 points, 11 in the fourth quarter), Derrick Macierowski (18 total, 16 in fourth quarter) and Konnor Gubler rounded out the scoring with nine points. Monocacy was led in scoring by Connor Jooes with 14 points, Jacob Park 10 points and eight rebounds followed by LaMont Wims who had eight points and seven assists.
Ballenger Creek also won the jayvee game by a score of 43-28. Ballenger Creek was led in scoring by Ali Azee who scored 12 points and Andy seven points. Monocacy was led in scoring by Paul McLister who scored 13 points.
