WALKERSVILLE COMPLETES MVAL JAYVEE TITLE RUN - 3/05/00

Walkersville's jayvees completed an impressive surge through the second half of the season and laid claim to their second straight MVAL championship with a 45-34 win over Brunswick. The Lions, 4-7 through the first half, went 10-1 down the stretch to overtake a Middletown squad that got off to a 8-1 start. Chris Hannigan led the team in the clincher with 24 points and Tim Abercrombie added 12. Billy Bernard paced the Railroaders with 10 points.

The Lions also won the varsity game 50-38 as Wes Anderson netted 17 points and Dave Berry connected for 11. Brunswick was led by Jason Anderson and Phil Whims with nine points apiece.

Luther Weedon had 21 points to power West Frederick's jayvees to a 50-29 win over Middletown. The Cadets also won the varsity game 53-33 with Colby Jackson and Eric Lenz scoring 16 and 15 points, respectively. Tyler Lushbaugh led the Knights with 15 points.

Sean Hall netted five trifectas and Brian Mohns had three as Windsor Knolls bombed the Catoctin varsity from long range 52-26. Hall finished with 22 points while Mohns had 18. Dennis Hill contributed ten points for the Cougars.

Windsor Knolls won the jayvee game 42-24 behind 12 points from Dan Orrison. Luke Baumgardner netted 10 to lead Catoctin.

St. John's closed out its jayvee season by defeating Boonsboro 53-41. The Vikings were lead by Jair Brady with 20 points while the Warriors' Mike Hensley had 12 points and Jimmy Griffin 11.

Boonsboro forfieted the varsity game.

CADET JAYVEES CLINCH CMC CROWN; KNIGHTS TIE IN MVAL - 3/04/00

West Frederick clinched the CMC jayvee championship and #1 tournament seed with a 47-19 victory over Windsor Knolls. The Cadets opened the game with a 12-0 run and never looked back. They were led by Luther Weedon with 17 points, including three 3-pointers. Brandon Ponstein led the Hawks with 8 points.

The Cadets also stormed back from a 10-point halftime deficit to take the varsity game 43-32. Windsor Knolls led 20-10 at the half, but West Frederick owned the second half by a 33-12 margin. Eric Lenz had 20 points and Colby Jackson 10 for the winners. High-scorer for the Hawks was Scott Glotfelty with eight.

Middletown's jayvees moved into a tie with Walkersville for the MVAL division lead with a 47-37 win over Ballenger Creek. Both are 13-8 headed into their final game of the regular season. The Knights were led by Joseph Keimig with 22 points while Mike Holda netted 11. Ballenger was led by Corey Rhodes with 13 points.

Chad Warren had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Ballenger to a 32-21 win in the varsity game. Jeff Willis' seven points was tops for Middletown.

Linganore locked up the #2 varsity seed with a 68-46 triumph over Poolesville. Eamon O'Shea and Zach Hayes had 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Lancers. Gary Ward ripped the nets for 27 for the Indians while Brendan Holden chipped in with 14.

Poolesville won the jayvee game 58-43 to finish the season at 16-6. Adam Powell had 25 points and Steve Smith 16 in a winning cause while Isaah Brightful and Mark Trammell had 12 apiece for Linganore.

Monocacy needed 3-pointers from Travis Johnson and John Brand in the fourth quarter to seal a 48-41 jayvee win over Catoctin. The Mustangs had five 3's overall and was led by Anthony Blackwood with 11 points. John Freed and Danny Duranko contributed 10 points each. Luke Bumgardner led the Cougars with 6 points.

The Mustangs used a 21-4 run in the third quarter to get by a pesky Catoctin varsity team 55-36. The game was tied at the half (21-21), but the league leaders broke out with nine different scorers in the third quarter. Danny Pierson led a parade of 14 scorers with 10 points and Eric Watts added seven. The Cougars got a team-high 13 points from Dennis Hill while Jason Johnson and Chris Whetzel had nine each.

CADET JAYVEES, LANCER VARSITY GAIN IMPORTANT WINS - 3/03/00

West Frederick's jayvees came within one game of clinching the CMC championship and #1 seed in the postseason tournament with a resounding 59-28 win over Linganore. Luther Weedon had 13 points and Corey Dorsey added 12 for the Cadets while Jay Greene, Paul Rhoads and Corey Nicholson all had six for the Lancers.

Zack Hayes exploded for 27 points to lead Linganore to a 59-44 win in the varsity game. The win put the Lancers in position to grab the #2 tournament seed with a win over Poolesville in their season finale. Eamon O'Shea added 13 points for Linganore while Colby Jackson netted 22 points and Eric Lenz had 11 for the Cadets.

WALKERSVILLE SWEEPS, JAYVEES TAKE OVER MVAL LEAD - 3/01/00

Walkersville's jayvees won for the ninth time in their last 10 games to advance to 13-8 on the year and take a half-game lead over 12-8 Middletown for the MVAL division lead with just one game remaining. The defending champs can lock up their second straight jayvee title with a win over Brunswick on Sunday. Tim Abercrombie had 20 points and Brandon Geppert added 13 in the win while Luke Bumgardner netted eight points for the Cougars.

The Lions also won the varsity game 43-37. No other details were made available.

MONOCACY GETS PAST MIDDLETOWN FOR SWEEP - 2/29/00

Monocacy's jayvees came from six points down in the fourth quarter to defeat Middletown 46-44. John Truxillo had 14 points, Michael Cholet 13 and Anthony Blackwood had 11 for Monocacy. Joe Keimig kept the Knights in the contest with another excellent outing.

The Mustangs' varsity used a 14-2 third-quarter run to ice that game early and take a 47-37 win. Monocacy was led by Danny Pierson with 13 points and Colin Doll with 11. John Keimig led all scorers with 22 points for Middletown.

LINGANORE TAKES TWO FROM BRUNSWICK - 2/28/00

Zach Hayes poured in 16 points to lead the Linganore varsity to a 49-36 win over Brunswick. The Railroaders were led by Brandon Thompson and Jason Anderson, each with seven points.

Linganore also won the jayvee game 45-30 as Isaah Brightful had a game-high 19 points, including a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line. R.J. Backover was tops for Brunswick with 12 points.

VISITORS SWEEP SIX - 2/27/00

It didn't pay to be a "home" team as guests swept all six League games played.

Walkersville's varsity trailed 22-17 with two minutes go in the first half, but closed with an 11-0 run and never trailed again in defeating St. John's 50-45. Chris Bierman had 17 points and Wed Anderson 14 to lead the Lions while St. John's was led by P.J. Dorsey's 12 points.

The Lions picked up an important jayvee win with a 35-23 verdict over the Vikings. The win kept Walkersville one game back of Middletown in the MVAL race. Brandon Geppert led the winners with 15 points while Steve Keser paced St. John's with eight points.

Middletown maintained it's one-game jayvee lead over Walkersville with a 43-29 win over Brunswick. Mike Holda had 11 points for the Knights and Joseph Keimig contributed 10. For Brunswick, R.J. Backover netted 13 points.

The Knights also won the varsity game 34-27 behind Tyler Lushbaugh's nine-point effort. Derek Dykes led the Railroaders with eight points.

Ballenger Creek placed three players in double figures - Steve Sherman (11), Willie Garcia (10), and C.J. Komans (10) - in defeating Poolesville 54-34. Brendan Holden and Gary Ward had 12 points each for the Indians.

The Bulldogs also claimed the jayvee game 34-27. Matt Powell led the winners with 16 points while Adam Powell and Freddie Leighton scored seven points each for Poolesville.

MONOCACY VARSITY CLINCHES, CADET JAYVEES TAKE LEAD - 2/26/00

Down 11-0 after one quarter, Monocacy stormed back for a 56-45 varsity triumph over West Frederick that clinched the MVAL regular season championship and top seed for the year-end conference tournament. It was the 19th straight win for the Mustangs who were led by Danny Pierson's 21 points, including 9-of-10 from the foul line. Colin Doll contributed 13 points and Greg Seldon added eight for the winners. Colby Jackson had 13 points and Eric Lenz 11 for the Cadets.

West Frederick's jayvees avenged their only League setback in resounding fashion, pulling away from a 13-10 first quarter lead for a 54-22 victory. The Cadets outscored Monocacy 30-5 over the second and third periods. Luther Weedon had 19 points to lead the winners while John Brand led the Mustangs with six points.

Middletown used a balanced attack to defeat Catoctin's varsity 58-25. Paul Stanzione led the Knights with a game-high 11 points. Jeff Willis and John Keimig each had 10 and Kyle Lear added nine for the winners. Dennis Hill and Chris Whetzel shared top scoring honors for the Cougars with ten points each.

The Knights overcame an 11-5 first quarter deficit to win the jayvee game 42-29. The Knights were led by Joe Keimg with 13 points while Mike Holda added 11. Catoctin had two players - Steven Palmer and Derrick Beard - with five points each.

Boonsboro notched it's second varsity win in a row with a 46-37 decision over Poolesville. Justin Baylor and Tim Kellinger each had 17 points for the winners. Poolesville was led by Gary Ward with 13 points. Brendan Holden chipped in 10.

Poolesville won it's 10th jayvee game in a row, defeating Boonsboro 32-27. The Indians were led by Corey Christman with nine points. Stephen Smith cleared 10 rebounds and Gregory Brooks added eight points. Boonsboro was led by Jimmy Griffin with nine points and Derrick Gallagher with seven.

MONOCACY, BALLENGER SWEEP; LANCERS, VIKES SPLIT - 2/24/00

Monocacy won it's 18th straight varsity game and closed in on the regular season CMC division championship with a 67-31 win over Boonsboro. Drew Gaeng led 12 Monocacy scorers with 17 points. Shawn Burman, Andrew Martin, and Colin Doll contributed eight points each. Tim Kellinger led Boonsboro with 12 points.

The Mustangs' jayvee also went to 18-1 with a 46-18 decision over the Warriors. Brad Betson and John Freed of Monocacy scored nine points each. Jimmie Griffin had seven points in a losing cause.

Ballenger Creek raced to a 37-17 varsity win over Brunswick. Jawaan Green had eight points and Chad Warren added seven to pace a balanced BC attack. Phil Whims led Brunswick with four points.

Bryan Bell's 13 points helped Ballenger to a 43-25 win in the jayvee contest. Matt Powell and Andrew Cooper added six points each for the winners. R.J. Backover had nine points in leading the Railroaders.

Linganore defeated the St. John's varsity 52-37 behind a 15-point effort from Jon Moravec. Leif Jackson chipped in the 12 points for the Lancers. The Vikings were led by Jered Lyons with 12 points.

St. John's won the opener 46-38. Justin Harrison led the winners with 10 points while Jon Sweadner had a game-high 17 points for Linganore.

MONOCACY EARNS TWO AGAINST MIDDLETOWN; BC, WALKERSVILLE SPLIT - 2/23/00

Monocacy had to work for a 50-41 varsity victory over Middletown, their 17th straight in League play. After sprinting to a 12-0 lead to start the game, the Mustangs saw Middletown come back to take a 36-35 lead after three quarters. Gladimir Elysee and Colin Doll each had 12 points for the winners while John Keimig totaled 13 for Middletown.

The Mustangs also won hard fought jayvee game 38-35 as John Freed had 13 points and Anthony Blackwood 12. Joseph Keimig had 13 points for the Knights.

Walkersville had a balanced jayvee scoring effort in taking a 34-27 decision at Ballenger Creek. Tim Abercrombie and Brandon Geppert had nine points each while Alex Edgely added eight. Cory Rhodes led the Bulldogs with 13 markers.

Ballenger won the varsity game 52-39. No other information was made available.

BALLENGER TRIMS WEST FREDERICK VARSITY - 2/22/00

Chad Warren scored 15 points and hauled in 14 rebounds to lead Ballenger Creek's varsity to a 39-33 victory over West Frederick. Robbie Burns added 10 points for the winners while Colby Jackson had a game-high 19 points for the Cadets.

The jayvee game was not played.

MIDDLETOWN CLINCHES MVAL VARSITY TITLE - 2/21/00

Middletown's varsity clinched the MVAL division championship with a 56-35 victory over Brunswick. The Knights, 11-5, are six games up in the loss column over runner-up St. John's with six games to play and hold the edge in the League's tie-breaking procedures. John Keimig helped the winners snap a three-game losing skid with 26 points, including 12-of-14 from the foul line. Jason Anderson led Brunswick with nine points.

The Knights also won the jayvee game 47-27, placing three players in double figures. Wesley Bidle had a team-high 12 points while Mike Holda and Joe Keimig netted 11 points each. Billy Benard paced the Railroaders with 10 points while R.J. Backover added eight.

Poolesville's jayvees ran their record to 14-5 as they beat Windsor Knolls 41-25. Freddie Leighton was the leading scorer for the Indians. Windsor Knolls was led by Steve Anderson with 11 points.

Windsor Knolls trailed the varsity game after three periods, but came back to notch a 44-32 win. Poolesville was led by Gary Ward with 20 points. Brian Mohns had 20 points and Scott Glotfelty 11 for the Hawks.

MONOCACY WIDENS VARSITY GAP, JAYVEES KEEP PACE - 2/20/00

Monocacy ran it's varsity win streak to 16 and maintained a two-game lead in the MVAL with just five games to go after a 48-39 triumph over Windsor Knolls. Monocacy, in avenging it's only League loss, had a 12-point lead entering the fourth quarter but had to withstand a strong comeback as the Hawks got as close as five down the stretch. Monocacy made 9-of-12 foul shots in the final period. Scott Glotfelty keyed the Hawks' fourth-quarter run by scoring nine points in the quarter. John Myers led WK with 12 points while top scorers for Monocacy were Danny Pierson with 15 points and Gladimir Elysee with 10.

The Mustangs' jayvee went to 16-1 and remained tied with West Frederick in the CMC with a 43-31 victory. Monocacy used a balaced scoring attack, led by John Brand with 13 markers and John Truxillo with nine. Windsor Knolls was led by Ryan Brandenburg with nine points and Brandon Ponstein added eight.

Corey Dorsey and Mike Sewell led a balanced West Frederick attack with eight points each as they defeated Catoctin's jayvees 47-25 to remained tied with Monocacy at 16-1. Catoctin's high-scorer was Patrick Clark with six points.

West Frederick won the varsity game 57-33, breaking open a close game with a 15-4 run in the fourth quarter. The Cadets were led by Eric Lenz with 25 points and Colby Jackson with 15. Catoctin was paced by Chris Whetzel's 11 points and Zach Topper's nine.

Pooleville gained a hard-fought 47-41 jayvee win over Boonsboro. Stephen Smith had a game-high 16 points for the winners. Adam Powell chipped in with 10. Boonsboro was led by Jimmy Griffin with 14 points.

The varsity Indians won their fourth game in a row, defeating the Warriors 49-39. Gary Ward netted 22 points and Brendan Holden chipped in 13 for Poolesville. Justin Baylor led Boonsboro with 12 points.

Ballenger Creek raced to a 53-32 jayvee victory over Brunswick as Cory Rhodes poured in a game-high 19 points. Matt Powell added 10 points for the winners while R.J. Backover paced the Railroaders with 12 points.

Chad Warren and Robert Davis led a balanced attack with 10 points each as the Bulldogs won the varsity game 53-32. Brunswick did not have a player with more than four points.

FIVE VARSITY GAMES DECIDED BY TOTAL OF 18 POINTS - 2/19/00

West Frederick's varsity came from behind in the fourth quarter to hand MVAL-leading Middletown it's third straight loss, 44-41. The Cadets, who trailed 31-29 after three periods, were led by Eric Lenz with 17 points and Colby Jackson with 12. John Keimig and 19 points to lead the Knights while Jeff Willis contributed 11.

The Cadets raced to a 46-28 win in the jayvee contest as Luther Weedon tossed in 18 points and Quenton Beard added 13. Joseph Keimig paced the Knights with 12 points.

Danny Pierson had 19 points, 12 in the fourth quarter, to lead Monocacy to a 48-46 win over Linganore. Drew Gaeng added 12 with seven assists for the winners. Leif Jackson scored 12 points and Zach Hayes added for Linganore.

Monocacy also won the jayvee game 57-45 to go to 15-1 on the season. Wardell Roberts had 10 points for the Mustangs while Brad Betson and John Truxillo contributed nine each. Corey Nicholson and Jay Greene each scored nine points for Linganore.

Windsor Knolls' varsity came back from an 18-17 halftime deficit to defeat Walkersville 39-31. The Hawks had balanced scoring with Brian Mohns leading the way with 11 markers. John Myers had 11 rebounds and seven points. The Lions were led by Wes Anderson with 15 points.

Walkersville used a strong inside game and perfect foul shooting in the fourth quarter to win the jayvee game 30-23. The Lions, six-of-six from the charity stripe in the last period, were led by Brandon Geppert had 11 points and Alex Edgley added 10. Ryan Brandenburg led the Hawks with six points.

Boonsboro picked up it's first jayvee win of the year, defeating Brunswick 44-39. Justin short had 13 points to pace the winners while Jeramiah Mills offered eight points. Billy Bernard topped the Railroaders with 18 points.

Robert Barnhart hit two free throws with nine seconds left to seal a 35-33 win for the Boonsboro varsity. Tim Kellinger led the Warriors with 13 points while Kyle Davis added 10. For Brunswick, Phil Whims tossed in 11 points and Jason Anderson contributed eight points.

Poolesville withstood a furious second half charge, but held on to beat Catoctin's varsity 50-47. The Indians led 30-16 at the half, but Catoctin and outscored the visitors 31-20 in the second half. Poolesville was led by another superb outing from Gary Ward with 25 points. Brendan Holden added 13 points for the winners. Catoctin was led by Zach Topper's clutch three-point shooting (3) and 22 points overall. Dennis Hill added 16 points for the Cougars.

A 17-point first quarter lead held up as Poolesville won the jayvee game 43-22. Poolesville was led by Gregory Brooks with nine points while Freddie Leighton and Cory Christman chipped in with eight points each. Catoctin was led by Dan Duranko and Ian Cuddahee, each with six points.

LINGANORE, BALLENGER SPLIT CMC MATCHUP - 2/17/00

Linganore's varsity came back from a two-point halftime deficit to notch a 37-32 win over Ballenger Creek. Zach Hayes had 11 points for the winners while Jonathon Moravec added nine. Chad Warren led the Bulldogs with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Cory Rhodes exploded for a season-high 30 points in the jayvee game, sparking a 60-49 BC victory. Matt Powell added nine points for the Bulldogs while Mark Trammell and C.J. Hardesty had 10 and eight points, respectively, for the Lancers.

ST. JOHN'S STUNS MIDDLETOWN TWICE - 2/16/00

Jered Lyons had 14 points, including 10-of-12 from the foul line in the fourth quarter, as St. John's upset MVAL-leading Middletown 53-46. John Anthony added 12 points for the victors while John Keimig had another stellar game for the Knights with 27 points and 10 rebounds.

St. John's also pulled off the jayvee upset by a single point, 31-30. Steven Keser led a balanced attack with eight points. Mike Holter led Middletown with nine points.

POOLESVILLE, LINGANORE SWEEP; MVAL TWINBILLS END IN SPLITS - 2/13/00

Gary Ward scored with 5.9 seconds left on an offensive rebound that gave Poolesville a 37-36 double-overtime upset win against Middletown. Ward, who finished with 23 points, also had a key three-pointer in the second OT. John Keimig had 14 points to lead the Knights.

Poolesville won the opener 25-23 as Adam Powell scored 10 of his game-high 15 points in the second half. Zachary Miss led the Knights with seven points.

Linganore got 12 points from Eamon O'Shea and 11 from Zach Hayes in registering a 57-35 varsity win over Walkersville. Dave Berry led the Lions with 13 points while Wes Anderson chipped in with 11.

The Lancers also won a nail-biter in the opener, 47-45. Andrew Lindberg led the way with 13 points and Jon Sweadner tallied 10 for the winners. Tim Abercrombit and Chris Hannigan had 14 and 10 points, respectively, for Walkersville.

Brunswick defeated St. John's 38-31 despite 14 points from Jered Lyons in their varsity matchup. The Vikings took the jayvee game 45-37 with Jair Blair netting 13 for the winners. R.J. Backover had 17 points and Billy Bernard 10 for the Railroaders.

Nine players shared in scoring 30 points and Catoctin defeated Boonsboro 30-25 in jayvee action. Jeremiah Mills had 10 points for the Warriors.

Boonsboro defeated Catoctin's jayvees 39-34 as Tim Kellinger scored 12 points. Brad Wetzel delivered nine points and Justin Baylor had eight for the winners. Catoctin was led by Zach Topper's 14 points while Dennis Hill had nine.

CMC MAKES IT A SATURDAY SWEEP - 2/12/00

CMC teams swept all four inter-league matchups with MVAL counterparts, keeping the tie intact between Monocacy and West Frederick (both are 14-1).

Monocacy's jayvees downed St. John's 44-38 as Anthony Blackwood had 19 points and Jonathan Brand added 10. Ben Hose had 11 markers and Steven Keser added 10 for St. John's.

The varsity game was tied after three periods before the Mustangs pulled away for a 68-58 win. Danny Pierson netted 21 points to lead the winners while Colin Doll had 18 and Gladimir Elysee added 12. Pierson also had 11 assists and 12 rebounds. For St. John's, Jared Lyons had 18 points, P.J. Dorsey had 16 and P.J. Van Hook added 10.

Quenton Beard led a balanced West Frederick jayvee attack with 13 points as they notched a 52-20 victory over Brunswick. R.J. Backover had a game-high 14 points for the Railroaders.

The Cadets used a 20-2 run in the third quarter to notch a 54-27 varsity win. Eric Lenz had 19 points for the winners while Chad Baker netted ten points in a losing cause.

Windsor Knolls swept Linganore for the second time this season. The Hawks' varsity turned an outstanding defensive effort into a 45-32 triumph. Brian Mohns led the WK with 17 point while Scott Glotfelty chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds. The Lancers were led by Leif Jackson with nine points.

The Hawks took the jayvee game in overtime, 50-40. Windsor Knolls was led by Brandon Ponstein with 15 points and Dan Orrison netted 13. Mark Trammel paced Linganore with 10 points.

Corey Rhodes had a stellar game with 21 points to lead Ballenger Creek to a 49-21 jayvee win against Boonsboro. Justin Short and Jacob Munson led the Warriors with seven and five points, respectively.

The Bulldogs managed a 42-35 triumph in a hard-fought varsity game. Jawann Green's 15 points paved the way for the winners while Justin Baylor had 10 points and Tim Kellinger nine for Boonsboro.

Poolesville notched a milestone 10th victory of the season with a 42-36 jayvee win over Catoctin. The Indians were led by Adam Powell with 14 points. Catoctin got seven points each from John Tumulty, Jake Clabaugh and Steve Palmer.

The Indians also won the varsity game 57-38 behind Gary Ward's 21-point effort. Catoctin was led by Jason Johnson with 11 points and Dennis Hill with 10.

LIONS WIN ONE; LYONS WINS ANOTHER - 2/09/00

Host Walkersville got 19 points from Chris Hannigan, 11 from Tim Abercrombie and 10 from Brandon Geppert in taking a 46-44 overtime victory against St. John's. Justin Harrison had 14 points for the Vikings.

Jered Lyons tallied 25 points in leading the Vikings' varsity to a 48-35 triumph. Chris Bierman had a team-high 15 for Walkersville.

BRUNSWICK, WALKERSVILLE SPLIT MAKEUP GAMES - 2/07/00

Without a player in double figures, Brunswick nipped Walkersville's varsity 39-36. Phillip Cooper's eight points led the winners while Chris Bierman had 13 to lead the Lions.

Walkersville took the jayvee game 44-25 behind 12 points from Chris Hannigan and 10 from Tim Abercrombie. R.J. Backover had 12 points in a losing cause.

MONOCACY, MIDDLETOWN WIDEN DIVISION GAPS - 2/06/00

Monocacy stretched it's varsity win streak to 13 and CMC lead to two full games with a 53-46 win over rival Linganore. Greg Seldon had 20 points for the Mustangs while Eric Noll's nine points led the Lancers.

The Mustangs (13-1) also climbed back into a tie with West Frederick in the jayvee CMC with a 43-31 triumph. Mike Cholet had 15 points and Jonathon Phillips contributed 10 for the winners while Jay Greene led Linganore with six points.

John Keimig netted a game-high 15 points as Middletown downed Windsor Knolls' varsity 42-31. Brian Mohns had 12 points in a losing cause.

The Knights took an earlier 41-33 verdict in the jayvee game as Zachary Miss erupted for 17 points. Brandon Ponstein had nine points and Shane Thompson eight for the Hawks.

Ballenger Creek's varsity got 19 points and 10 rebounds from Chad Warren in capturing a 44-31 win over St. John's. Jerod Lyons continued his fine play for the Vikings with a team-high 14 points.

The Bulldogs also won the jayvee game, 53-44, rallying from a 20-18 halftime deficit. Ballanger had two players in double figures - Corey Rhodes with 19 points and Matt Powell with 11. For the Vikings, Steven Keser netted 14 points while Jair Brady and Justin Moser each had 11.

Gary Ward poured in 24 points to lead the Poolesville varsity to a 47-27 victory against Brunswick. Phil Cooper paced the Railroaders with seven points.

Poolesville took the jayvee game 30-17 with a balanced attack led by Greg Brooks with seven points and Stephen Smith with six. R.J. Backover's eight points led Brunswick.

POOLESVILLE LOWERS BOOM ON LAST UNBEATEN - 2/05/00

Poolesville snapped Monocacy's jayvee unbeaken streak at 12 games with a 38-34 upset victory. The loss dropped the Mustangs a half-game behind West Frederick (13-1) in the CMC. Greg Brooks had 14 points and Adam Powell added 10 to pace Poolesville. Mike Cholet had eight points and Jonathan Brand added seven for Monocacy.

Monocacy extended it's varsity streak to 12 with a 51-38 win. Colin Doll had 17 points and Greg Seldon added nine to lead Monocacy. Gary Ward had 12 points for Poolesville.

Four players scored in double figures as West Frederick dumped Catoctin 64-31 to retake the jayvee CMC lead. Luther Weedon and Quenton Beard had 13 points each while Andre Washington and Paul Smith notched 12 each. Dan Duranko had 10 points to lead the Cougars.

West Frederick also won the varsity game 55-38. Eric Lentz had a team-high 24 points for the Cadets while Colby Jackson added 13 and Forrest Offord 11. Chris Wetzel had an outstanding game with 15 points for Catoctin.

Windsor Knolls' varsity played a strong defensive game to defeat St John's 50-30. Brian Mohns and DJ McGee scored 13 each points to lead the Hawks in scoring. Jerod Lyons led the Vikings with 12 markers.

St. John's outscored Windsor Knolls 11-2 in the fourth quarter of the jayvee game to claim a 30-23 upset win. The Vikings were led by Ben Hose with 11 points while Brandon Ponstein had eight for the Hawks.

Walkersville edged Boonsboro 32-24 in a defensive battle of varsity teams. The Lions got 14 points from Wes Anderson while Boonsboro was led by Justin Baylor and Brad Wetzel with seven points each.

The Lions also won the jayvee game 48-25. For the winners, Tim Abercrombie had 13 points and Chris Hannigan contributed 11. Derek Crist notched 11 points and Jimmy Griffin five in a losing cause.

MONOCACY WORKS FOR TWO AGAINST BALLENGER - 2/03/00

Monocacy pulled away from narrow halftime leads to notch wins in both the varsity and jayvee meetings with Ballenger Creek.

The unbeaten 12-0 jayvees led by just one at the half, but held the Bulldogs to just two points in the third quarter to claim a 40-23 win. John Truxillo had 11 points and Anthony Blackwood added ten for the winners.

Chad Warren had 29 points for the BC varsity, but it wasn't enough to overcome a balanced Mustang attack in a 54-48 varsity final. Warren also had 13 rebounds. Danny Pierson topped the winners with 13 markers.

MIDDLETOWN, WALKERSVILLE SPLIT MVAL NAIL-BITERS - 2/02/00

It took double overtime to do it, but Middletown's varsity eked out a 35-32 victory over Walkersville. The Knights got 14 points from John Keimig and 13 from Jeff Willis in going to 9-2 on the year.

Walkersville's jayvees started the evening by pulling off a 37-36 upset over the MVAL-leading Knights. Brandon Geppert and Alex Edgley got things rolling for the Lions with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Zach Miss was the game-high scorer for Middletown with 15 points.

MONOCACY WINS JAYVEE BATTLE OF UNBEATENS, SWEEPS - 1/29/00

Monocacy came back from 10 points down at the half to defeat West Frederick 44-40 and take over sole possession of the CMC jayvee division lead. John Truxillo had 13 points and Mike Cholet added 12 for Monocacy. Quenton Beard had 11 markers and Corey Dorsey added 10 for West Frederick.

The varsity game was tied at 28 at the half and 36 at the end of three quarters, but Monocacy took a 47-44 win, it's 10th straight. The Cadets' Colby Jackson led all scorers with 23 points while Eric Lenz contributed 14. Colin Doll led Monocacy with 16 points; Danny Pierson and Carl Wolf each contributed 12 points. Pierson also had six blocked shots, Wolf four steals, and Drew Gaeng dished out six assists.

Windsor Knolls' varsity defeated Poolesville 55-34, breaking open a tight game by outscoring the Indians 23-7 in the fourth quarter. The Hawks were led by John Myers with 17 points and Scott Glotfelty with 10. Poolesville got 13 points from Vincent Riggs and 12 from Gary Ward.

In the jayvee game, Greg Brooks hit a layup with 24 seconds left and Paul Potemra added a late foul shot to ice it as Poolesville defeated Windsor Knolls 26-23. Greg Brooks led the Indians with eight points and Ryan Brandenburg had nine to pace the Hawks.

Walkersville used balanced attack to defeat Catoctin 45-28 in varsity action. Dave Berry led the Lions with 12 points. Josh Brown and Chris Bierman each had eight as Walkersville placed nine players in the scoring column. Jason Johnson led the Cougars with eight points.

The Lion jayvees hit 10 of their first 13 shots, including three 3's, for a 27-6 first-quarter lead and went on to a 58-41 win. Tim Abercrombie and Chris Hannigan led the Lions with 13 points each. All 19 players on both teams got in the scoring column.

Jered Lyons led a balanced St. John's attack with 11 points as they defeated Boonsboro's varsity 46-36. The Warriors were led by Justin Baylor with 13 points and Brad Wetzel with 12. The Vikings also won the jayvee game 46-39. St. Johns was led by Steven Keser with 11 points while Derrick Gallagher had 15 points and Jimmy Griffin 12 for the Warriors.
